"Starting Over" at level 24 - what role first? Opinions on what I should do?

So I'm going to put down GTAO for a bit and try to get back into RDRO--I started playing it before all of the roles etc and looking up my social club account, I'm halfway through rank 24 with $986 cash and 30 gold.  What should I focus on?  I'm leaning towards starting with Bounty Hunter and then going from there since it will be more straightforward and have read about the challenges with animals not spawning in consistently for Trader.

Any ideas?

Get to and maintain the challenge streak to get the .5 gold bar per completed challenge.
Collector, Collector, Collector. Use online maps to expedite collecting complete sets.
Complete sets is big money, but also big xp. Use that xp wisely.
Collector role levels fast.

Bounty Hunter is fun, and needs no big investments after purchase unless you buy the wagon.
All roles can be done sole but BH is really designed for playing with at least 2 players.
Not the best per hour money, but nice to mix with Trader when animals are spawning.

Trader and Moonshine? Wait for R* to fix animal spawning and moonshine operations.
Outlaw Pass 2. ? Costs a lot of gold but levels up fast. Really fast from Collector set sales that pay 1500 xp. Pass levels are 2000.
Research what the pass provides. It may be good for you.

As others have said, Collector is a great starting role as you'll level it up and find collectables while doing a lot of the other stuff in the game, it's also a fantastic way to make money and level up in general. jazzbone is also bang on with the recommendation to get your daily challenge streak to 0.5 bars a challenge, it's the best and easiest way to earn gold if you do end up playing every day.

Bounty Hunter is also a fine first role these days as most (all?) of the issues with it are fixed, it's not amazing money compared to Collector but it gets you into a lot of combat and you can loot collectables and maps from enemies and just in general find collectables while doing the bounties. Legendary bounties are decent money and exp now I hear, but they are on 48 minute cooldowns between them I believe.

Trader is fine when the animal spawns work but they often don't and Moonshiner has some issues of it's own so I'd leave them to last especially as both roles require a bit of investment for things the wagons, the moonshiner cooker (whatever it's called) and just upgrading the speakeasy in general if you want to do that. Moonshiner is also 25 gold bars compared to the first three being 15.

The Outlaw Pass is I believe 40 or 45 gold now which is steep for a new player but if you get it to level 100, which is REALLY easy, you'll earn all that gold back along with cash, treasure maps and a bunch of other stuff in particular some pretty decent discount coupons for various items which for a new player who isn't sitting on a whole heap of cash can come in very handy.

Go for collector first. It still is the best way for money making even after R* changed the locations. Once you get the metal detector you're set for everything.

Do daily challenges for gold(and PvP if you like it, you can get 0.16 gold in almost every match). Then get the Outlaw Pass. It isn't hard to level up at all. With collector and daily challenges you'll be breezing through it.

And just enjoy whatever you like man. RDO is seriously addicting.

I think it's 1200XP for 1 level.

RDR even in day 1 back was nice to be back in a totally different pace; passing by 3 players that didn't even give me a look was amazing.  I've gotta find Nazar to go after collector but have Twitch so had a free pass to bounty hunting and took 2 bounties down this afternoon.  Looking forward to starting the collector path

Thanks, Zapper, for pointing out my mistake. Outlaw Pass levels are 1200 xp, not 2000 xp as i stated in my previous post here.
At 1200 xp per level it is no wonder why it is possible to breeze through the 100 levels of the Outlaw Pass.

Collector is the way and the light.

Everything follows it naturally, or rather goes hand in hand with it.

Collect as you're hunting, etc.

I flew through the Outlaw Pass in just over a week mainly through the collecting XP.

when i started over on pc what i did was from day one i did at least 1 daily challenge every day to build up a streak, (sometimes that means getting on red dead for 5 minutes and doing the easiest daily objective) I now have around a 50 to 60 day streak making 0.5 gold per challenge, this is useful since every update will cost gold and there will always be gold only things you can buy. I started with the collector because it was free via trading cards in gta online and the collector lets you get ridiculous amounts of money and xp when paired with the online collector map on Google, just pull it up on a second monitor or phone screen. trader is also good for easy money all you have to do is spend 5 minutes along the way to your camp to drop off a perfect animal and sell when it's full. bounty hunter sucks for rewards but can be fun and challenging. moonshiner is the most expensive role and i recommend starting it last

Thanks @Zerdical -- I had Bounty Hunter and Collector free [one from GTAO one from Twitch I think] so I'm doing both but have found BH to be way more challenging than I expected and am more drawn to the collector role so far as it helps to explore the map and re-immerse more.  I've had about a 50% success rate in the BH stuff with the bounty often escaping--I'm thinking I need to stay on my horse at all times now until I have the bounty cornered, but we'll see.  It's way more difficult than I anticipated, or maybe I just suck more than I remember :)

yeah doing bointies solo is very challenging. especially legendary bounties at 5 star difficulty. i would recommend investing in a bolas if targets are escaping, and a good tip is once they're hogtied kick them until they are knocked out. they will still be alive but cannot escape

Yeah I am going to get Bolas once I rank into them but I'm not high enough yet.  Got smoked by a group of NPCs getting a single $ bounty today--difficulty is set way higher than I would have thought with these but they are still fun to play.  Are any of them "sneakable" or stealth possible?

As a noob casual my advice is

the reinforced lasso is a big help (until i unlock the bolas) in general and once you see the bounty run ignore the enemies just chase the coward and catch him and for legendary bounties yukon nik is easy at max difficulty for solo i am at level 30 and did it no problem got 1300+  bounty hunter exp

and yeah release at least one bear to help

@Dracorex I did get the reinforced lasso and thanks for the advice on the bounties.  I'll subdue the target first and then clean up the rest of the enemies.  It's been surprisingly fruitful looting said enemies as I often get collector items and get to "double dip" so to speak.  I just got the metal detector today and have found 2 things with it [the one bad thing about snow is that it's impossible to see the dig sites as I haven't yet unlocked the ability to see disturbed earth with eagle eye].

Really, really enjoying it a lot as it feels way less of a grind than GTA and a major change of pace along with really beautiful surroundings.
