Driving Test

I have my driver's test in 9 days, any advice? Any horror stories? How was your driver's test?

I have no idea how a driving test in Mars is, but here are some universal tips:

- Before turning on the car: adjust the seat, the mirrors, put on seatbelt.

- Try researching the route the test takes place beforehand. They usually take place on a predetermined route, and sometimes they have a place meant to confuse you. Watch out for that.

- Just generally take things slow. You're not trying to prove you're the next Brian O'Connor, you're trying to prove you can drive 200m without crashing.

- Don't just look dead ahead. This sometimes can be hard due to nervousism, but look at your mirrors, at the car's speed, and look around when making a corner. Have some mental trigger, for example, every light pole you pass by, or every 5-10 seconds, you take a glance at a mirror.

- If you f*ck up, testers generally accept cash. Some of them accept through PayPal, but carry cash just in case.

Oh, and some horror stories:

- The day I took my test, someone managed to climb the curb and bump into a tree during the parallel parking part of the test. Didn't do damage to the car, but managing to lose control at 3km/h is an automatic failure.

- The same day, someone else panicked during the uphill part, revved the engine and dumped the clutch. They climbed a hill while doing a burnout on a 1.0 Celta. Didn't even know that was possible, but apparently that also counts as losing control. It was awesome tbh.

Just remember everything your driving instructor has taught you and try to control your nerves on test day as best as possible. You need a bit of luck on your test and just hope that no other idiots are out on the road.

Not really a horror story but it took me 4 attempts to pass my rigid test (nearly gave up after the third go) and passed both car and artic tests first time.

Good luck! :)

Driving a car after you have gotten your license is supposed to feel natural, so make yourself comfortable in the car, remain confident and act like you already have your license. Show the inspector (or what ever he is called) that you can drive a car right, roam traffic safely and that you deserve your license. If you have good vibes with the inspector, just tell them that you're a little nervous, but you will do your best. That helps ease you up a little.

Also, turn off your damn phone. You don't wanna have it vibrating in your pocket while you're concentrating at your best.

Dont have a driving instructor, just pointers from my friends when they ride shotgun occasionally.  I've been driving around alone anyway with just my learner's permit, because my friends aren't really helping out enough. I feel fairly confident I can pass. I mean, I know how to control my car. I feel like I'm supposed to be nervous, but oddly I'm not.

I failed. I did not yeild to oncoming traffic while making an unprotected left turn. A car almost hit us!

You need a instructor.  He/she will tell you how many lessons you need before re taking the driving test.   I failed my first test for speeding, 10mph over the speed limit.  Second time I stalled at a busy junction and passed.

F

But don't let that scare you. At least now you know some of the route and what not to do in an unprotected left turn. Just take things slow.

Always overtake to the left and check your mirrors frequently

Before having a brake on a curve, test your brakes if they are working properly. There are lots of car crashes that happened because of brake failures.

If your scared to drive in real life, play Gran Turismo and switch the game camera into first-person. This also improves your driving skills

I failed twice took it on my third try and passed it. I was lucky though I got my license on the day my permit expired I almost hit a cone and nearly failed.

Don't brake on a curve at all

Nothing wrong with trail braking until the apex of a corner. You just don't want to be braking hard solely in a corner without having started beforehand.

Learn how to do a handbrake turn, cos if the tester is a lady she'll be so impressed, its an instant pass. Try to avoid super-advanced techniques like texting while driving, and opening macdonalds drive-thru boxes while driving, because you dont get bonus points for that, although the rolling a doobie while driving might see you in good stead depending on the tester. Also take some bangin tunes, but make sure you know how to set up the bluetooth first, as you dont want to look like a total twat as you scramble to sort the dubstep at the first set of traffic lights.
