Casino heist approaches and preps general info

Recommended Posts

Geisterfaust

There are three general approaches to the Casino heist, all with specific preps, excluding the general preps common for all of the approaches. Some of the preps are optional, while some of them are multivariate (Ex: different getaway cars, different gun loadouts, different disguises). In this thread I would like to accumulate the intel on how do these setups influence the heist itself and share tips on how to do them. So, please share and I will edit the post. It's the work in progress now.

General preparations, common for all approaches

Spoiler

kqNY9yZ.png

  1. Scope out Casino: reveals 6 access points (Main door, Side doors, Sewers Tunnel, Roof Terrace, Security tunnel, Roof) plus basic points of interest. These access points are actually not final and there are hidden options, available for each approach. Sewers entrance is unique for an Aggressive approach and can't be used as an exit strategy. Scoping the roof enables you to access 2 helipads as both points of extraction and entry (North and South helipads). To reveal the Sewers point you need to visit the Sewers via the closest entrance in the drain system while doing the scope out mission (credit for the image goes to @Quinn_flower). Security Tunnel is the tunnel where you're dropping Casino vans while doing the casino missions;
  2. Vault Contents: reveals remaining  points of interest while panning all of the available cameras plus obviously reveals the content of the vault. So far I've only seen cash and gold, further options will be added as we progress;
  3. Casino model will reveal entry points and POI as a blue markers, mostly useless, considering we have a Community heist thread with all of them;
  4. Vault door will allow you to practice the drilling, but it's a waste of money and only useful for the looks. Drilling is not time-limited, so you can always do that on the fly;
  5. Door security: is the most useful extra at this stage. It will allow you to practice the new hacking minigames, which are quite challenging and considering the price, it's the best bang for your money. Hacking will be necesseary for all the locked doors unless you do security pass prep and will be crucial to access part of the locked cash in the Vault.

Common preps for all approaches

  1. Unmarked weapons: As soon as you're inside the casino, your beloved weapons are gone from the inventory and you're stuck with whatever you have prepared. Be advised, that part of the selected weapons will be hidden either in the Laundry room or in the Waste disposal, there is no way to influence that, at least to my knowledge; Selected loadout can not be changed until the heist is completed!
  2. Getaway vehicles:Simple, choose whatever you think will handle the pressure in case you will go loud. As soon as the cars are in the garage, you can upgrade them, which you should do, because until the first upgrade you don't even have bulletproof tires and with that you're better off stealing the cop car. Also keep in mind, that if you will go loud, every SWAT van around the casino will be locked;
    Selected cars can not be changed until the heist is completed!
  3. Hacking device. Nothing specific, will require you visiting the NOOSE HQ that you have already seen in the Doomsday heist Server farm mission. May trigger mild PTSD. Can be done stealthy, as a training before stealthing the Casino, if you're up for that. No hidden options.  In some cases the device could be in FIB building, credit to @Mdc
  4. Vault keycards: obtained from the prison guards, will require you to hijack a prison bus and stealth your way into prison, where you need to kill a guard to obtain them. Don't raise the alarm!
  5. Patrol routes will mark all the cameras and guards on your map, absolutely mandatory unless you want to go loud. Could be purchased for 100k, if you're in a hurry, not the worst investment of your money. Don't waste your time if you're going loud!
  6. Duggan shipments are crucial unless you want to deal with the terminator AI. Without this prep you will face guards in ballistic helmets and super heavy armor. Doesn't matter if you're going stealthy or loud, this one is absolutely mandatory. To complete it, get armed air vehicle of your preference before triggering the mission and park it near the arcade. I've used Hunter and was able to destroy everything solo!
  7. Security intel is mandatory and you will know why as soon as you are done with that. Any additional details will spoil the surprise. It's a simple mission, pretty straightforward;
  8. Power drills: only useful for drilling the deposit boxes in the vault. Chances are, you will not have time for that, unless you are going with a full crew and there are reports of laughable takes like 5k. Don't buy them, they won't pay for themselves.

Stealth approach

It is the most difficult approach, mostly due to the binary stealth mechanics of GTA V: you're detected immediately as soon as one of the guards sees you, there's no cooldown period like in Hitman/ Far Cry/ Splinter Cell. That will also trigger the general alarm. Imagine Insurgents setup from Humane Labs on steroids: more guards, security cameras and locked doors that will require either hacking or security passes. I highly recommend getting level 2 passes while doing the preps, because with hacking your chances of being stealthy are close to zero. I can't share the walkthrough and as far as I'm informed, the guards routes are changing from the set of patterns, so here I will only provide general tips, sorry for that. Further down the line, more experienced players will share more, I have no doubts about it.

Basically, this approach means that you're slipping through one of the entry points, avoiding all the guards and the cameras, optionally hitting the side vault for the extra  100k (opens via the security room on the security floor) reaching the vault, getting the money (some take is locked via hacking games, so practice them before!), leaving the vault in the provided time window (3 minutes if you're not detected and 2 minutes if you're already loud), avoiding the guards again and reaching the selected or any other available exit. If your exit strategy involves Helipad and you, for example, have left via side doors, cars will be further away from you. So keep that in mind.

If you dare to try that, my advice would be to do it the last after getting familiar with the surroundings both from the loud one or the Big con.

Preps

Spoiler

f9o6M9I.png

  1. Nano drone: With this thing you will be able to knock down some of the security cameras or even knock out security guards. Keep in mind, that cameras will get back online and if there are bodies in front of them, you're going loud. Could be useful in stealth approach and worth getting, although it's not really mandatory to use it, it's mandatory to acquire and you may as well get it to use. Only available once per mission for each crew member;
  2. Vault laser: self-explanatory mandatory setup. Drills could not be destroyed if you decide to carpet bomb the previous owners, just saying;
  3. EMP device. Get it! It will get you a window of around 1minute without lights and video surveillance, but could only be used once per heist. Useful as an exit strategy, especially if the things are going sideways and you need to get to that exit;
  4. Infiltration suits will help you to be more silent.

Big con approach

Should act as a middle ground between the loud and the stealth approaches and allows you to unlock Bugstar, NOOSE, Firefighter and Gruppe sechs outfits. Worth trying at least for the outfits alone, but you will also get a ceramic pistol for your troubles, so this one should be at the top part of your list. You can also use Young ancestor as your cover, which adds exclusivity to this approach and cements your entry point via Agatha's assistants office. It is the most feature-rich approach with the freedom to use various disguises.

Gruppe Sechs disguise will lead you directly to the vault through the unique service tunnel, you have never seen before in the game. Young ancestor will grant you access to the hotel floors with their unique interiors as well. It's not that you can't access these places via Sneaky approach, it's the fact that you can do it and make sense of it, make it meaningful. This approach is still possible to do completely undetected, with the elite requirement to do so.

Pay attention, that you will be using non-suppressed guns, which will force you to pistol whip enemies (although it's still recommended approach even in Sneaky scenario). Since we are in closed space, my recommendation will be auto shotgun, but it's completely up to your skill and preference, what to use.

Preps

Spoiler

1ccu3pO.png

  1. Entry disguise will get you outfits to pass through some of the secured area in the Casino, outfits are also tied with the entry points, which means that if you haven't scoped some of the points, setup mission for the desired outfit could be locked.
    Gruppe Sechs: entry point via service tunnel, exit is up to yours. Your credentials are good up to the vault, just drive into the tunnel and guards will basically walk you to a mantrap. After this, you're on your own, though, but it's possible to stay undetected. I recommend this approach, as it's one of the most interesting and daring. Do not start world war three at the outfit pickup point during the prep, blowing the van up before photographing plates will fail the objective!
    Bugstar: entry point via side doors, you will be able to pass to the security floor, but after that you're on your own;
  2. Vault drills is basically the same this as vault lasers from the Sneaky approach, nothing special. Equipment can't be destroyed, so feel free to use whatever firepower you feel justified;
  3. Exit disguise: NOOSE or firefighters. First is need to be picked up at police station, no way to use stealth, so enter with guns blazing and park your getaway vehicle as close to the doors as you can or escape via the helicopter. I'm not sure if pickup locations are randomized, but they could be. In my case uniforms were in the armory and locker rooms.
    Firefighters are obviously much easier to obtain;
    This outfits will be hidden at the security floor, which means you will need to pick them up. If you manage to do that, your exit out of the casino will be absolutely careless;
  4. Young ancestor means you're coming through the front door, while reaching the security floor without any clearance through the office of Agatha's assistant and hotel floor;

Loud approach

The one that features elusive Packie McReary (unique Combat MG/ Combat PDW loadout) and, to quote Lester, the "The classic play", where you're entering the vault through the tunnel from the sewers. Of course, there are other possibilities, like a front door, if you really like to shoot. The main difference of this approach is that you're using thermal charges instead of hacking the sections inside the vault, which may significantly reduce the time needed to complete it. With a combination of Art inside (takes less time to loot) and these charges, that's the approach where your chances of using these extra power drills are actually high even with 2 players. If you don't like stealth, you're going to like this one without a doubts. Make sure to complete the Duggan shipments and get that reinforced armor to make a real bloodbath inside the casino while sporting that Manhunt-influenced masks. You're not be able to use the entrance as the exit point, because it collapses as soon as you're inside and you're not getting directly to the vault from the sewers, but nobody is stopping you from escaping via the tunnel as soon as you're outside of the casino.

By doing it loud you will have a chance to unlock trade prices on a lot of new vehicles including Zhaba.

Preps:

Spoiler

BSFY1xV.png

  1. Thermal charges and Vault Explosives are pretty easy to get, both being mandatory are pretty straightforward;
  2. Reinforced armor will influence your ability to use some of the outfits plus obviously adds a lot of health. It involves a lot of shooting or a lot of stealth, so if you're in for some loud action, don't skip it and kill everything you see. With this prep done you will also have rappelling equipment that unlocks roof as a possible access point.
  3. Boring machine will allow you to enter the floor with the vault directly, which can be both good or bad for you: it means that you will have less targets to shoot at on your way in. Getting it as easy as doing a simple fetch quest with minor police interference (2 stars).

General notes

  1. All of the preparations could be done solo. Hell, they should be done solo, because your friends should do their own and there is no monetary reward for doing any of these missions;
  2. Equipment like cards/ drills can't be destroyed and you can nuke the place to get it;
  3. It's best to start from anything, but stealthy approach, unless you have specifically trained to complete it or playing with people who know, what are they doing;
  4. Decoy and clean cars are not that important, as far as you're away from Casino, cops are not a big deal;
  5. Shooting your way out is still better, than shooting your way in, if you're not supposed to. If you're not playing loud, stay undetected at least on your way in;
  6. Staying undetected on the way to the vault with a good hacker grants you 3 minutes 30 seconds to grab the loot;
  7. Always go for the remote buyer, unless you're doing elite challenge or playing with absolutely incompetent low levels;
  8. Speaking of, don't play with randoms, unless it's loud. Communication in stealthy parts is a key and it's crucial that people understand each other and at least not going to opposite directions. Stealth with randoms? Forget about it!
  9. Upgrade your getaway vehicles, if you're going out with a bang, your vanila cars are not even fitted with bulletproof tires;
  10. Worst possible outcome is exiting the stealth approach loud to a cars that are located too far away: parking is empty, NOOSE vans are locked and you can't even run;
  11. The closest exit point to the security floor is the staff entrance.
  12. To complete the heist in hard mode, as required to make additional cash you need to finish the selected approach, then play another one and then it will be available for you as the one marked with a skull on the board, where you are choosing approaches. Credit to @Gat_2011

Outfits

There's plenty of unique outfits to unlock via completing the heist. All of them are approach specific and to unlock the specified outfit you need to exit the casino and finish the heist in it, not just wear it on the way there. NOOSE outfit can not be found everywhere in the game even after completing the heist in it, is that a bug or feature, we should ask R*. You can browse the locked outfits in every clothing store and decide, what you want to unlock.

About the money

  • Money/ Gold/ Art is distributed in the vault, with a good half of it behind the hacking mini games. Without hacking you're not going to haul more, than 50% of potential take which will leave you with approx. 500k cut for a crew of two;
  • With a decent support crew, you will be paying up to $775.500 to the crew members from the maximum take of 2.585.000;
  • You are not paying laundering fees when there's a gold in the vault;

Thoughts on how many players are needed

I haven't calculated properly and it's all a bit fast thinking now, but more people does not exactly means more money in this approach, because it's a percentage of a global take. If you and your partner can hack fast (training devices are available to purchase in the arcade), you can beat 4 person crew who are bad at hacking, because this crew will split the same amount between more people.

Paying less to a crew may seems like a good idea, but we're talking marginal digits here, the best you can gain is up to 15% which is almost nothing (that's the difference between 10% cuts and 5% cuts for crew members). You can cheap out on the decoy and getaway cars too, but that's not going to make this heist really profitable.

Here's the stats from our last quick run: we've hauled 1.489 mil. and got for ourselves 521k each. That was with one hack completed because we were undetected and it was 3:30 to grab everything we can.

Proof:

If you're in for the money, there are much better ways.

Sorry if this is off topic, but do you unlock the NOOSE outfit after using it in the Big Con approach?

Someone please answer the NOOSE question, I'd really like that costume if possible.

Edit: found some guy on YouTube who answered it. He finished the heist wearing the NOOSE gear and the answer is! Nope

Of course they make the best outfit unobtainable f*ck y'all

I've just finishing using NOOSE outfits and it's nowhere to be found. Not in the shop, maybe I should check out the wardrobe at Arcade, but I don't have any hope, because everything else is accessible anywhere.

Now I'm just missing Packy for the loud approach, not going to start until he's available.

Excellent thread, H. Very helpful information too.

I have a few questions:

 Can you kill them like in any other "stealth" gig in GTAO? or will you get detected immediately like the prep mission with the drilling equipment?

Do you know who offers the Grotti Furia as a getaway car? Yung Ancestor's car in the casino's garage makes me presume he'll be involved & its The Big Con approach, but none of the getaway drivers had it.

Can you use the EMP to buy an extra minute inside the vault? Or will it kill the keypads inside the vault as well?

Absolutely. Just make sure others won't see them and keep the bodies away from the cameras.

None of the drivers offer it's because it's Ancestor's car. You can use it as getaway, if you have chosen him as your entry point. Not really convenient, though: a lot of area to stealth through and outfits are mostly useless.

Nope and if you will overstay your welcome while eating snacks, you will be detected immediately. Otherwise it's possible to leave without a trace. EMP is stealth specific thing, not available in other approaches. And it's not that hacking will slow you down that much, grabbing the goods is time consuming itself.

Here's a quick note about the PRison Guard Uniforms. I know it's an absolute no-brainer but they DO NOT give you access to the prison. It's the usual letting you in and they shoot you.

This thread is useful if you are playing with friends who are good at video games.

If you are playing with sub lvl 200 randumb little kids, which is seemingly now 90% of GTA's player base, every Heist will go belly-up within minutes as they all run off exploring, don't listen to Lester, and don't follow on-screen prompts. Then leave.

You know, I am "only" level 100 and have a sh*tload of experience playing this game but I don't do anything but grind and have fun--no racing, no side game sh*t, it takes an absurd amount of time to level up now and I'm wondering if R* changed the way RP gets distributed between very early players from the beginning of online versus people like me who started playing online a year ago.  Just saying, Levels don't necessarily represent skill.

You need to get to the Terrace in the Casino Scope Out mission, then a cutscene will play

Sounds like that's how we unlock the trade price. I wanted to do the Gruppe Seches way, but I also don't want to pay a 25% markup for the Furia.

Well, go Gruppe Sechs with 2 more competent players, do some hacking training before and you will haul enough to mostly cover the difference. The chances are, you will be spotted on the way to the vault while using Ancestor approach and then you will have less time, which means less takings. Not to mention that you can unlock GS outfits buy finishing the mission in them.

Hacking device prep can also send you to fib building and unlocks fib prep suits. Which prep unlocks trash outfit and valet outfit?

Valet approach is an option for sourcing getaway vehicles - you have to knock out the valets round the back of the hotel, get dressed and then simply take the cars off the hotel guests.

Yeah I was pretty bullsh*t when I knifed the guard whose key I was taking and the entire prison lit me up immediately.  How much quieter can I kill someone than a knife?

Killing the guard is actually quite hard. I've did it with bare hands and it took me three god hits, but the alarm never got off. Shooting or stabbing him will raise the alarm, probably hard scripted.

Good to know at least one approach works for the future.  So were you able to just stroll out of the prison yard then after collecting the key?

Even if you do the key passes preps, you still get the hacking in finale. Atleast I do.

Any particular approach or driver or type of vehicle? I've done quite a few runs and had only drag racers and people with containers

Yeah I was pretty bullsh*t when I knifed the guard whose key I was taking and the entire prison lit me up immediately.  How much quieter can I kill someone than a knife?

Well, I  was more referring to freemode.

Funny how prison guards be like "You're wearing our unifor, nice. We'll oopen the gates so we can kill you."

Any breakdown for the loud approach done by anyone yet? I don’t really have a group to play with so I figure this will be my best bet to start with.... not to hate on randoms. I’ve met a lot who were friggin awesome teammates.

Although a $700k markup is a tough pill to swallow (might buy 2 eventually), money is not a problem. ;)

I guess I can do it both ways & have fun.

Killing the guard is actually quite hard. I've did it with bare hands and it took me three god hits, but the alarm never got off. Shooting or stabbing him will raise the alarm, probably hard scripted.

Thanks for the heads up, H. I have to do this prep tonight.

That's the approach! I don't care if I won't recuperate my money with this heist, I was in for some new gameplay. I'm in the process of updating the OP posts, Avi will get you 4 minutes for 10% cut.

Ok so the Grotti Furia has a trade price but does not appear in the getaway vehicle in any drivers, someone know why?

Any particular approach or driver or type of vehicle? I've done quite a few runs and had only drag racers and people with containers

I got it when doing the Kanjos.

Not sure if right thread to ask but I'm missing one P. O. I. There's 10 poi you can scope but I'm missing number 8 of the small pictures when looking from the top left to right/and down.  Not sure if I explained very well..
