Vapid Retinue MKII Appreciation

It feels faster than the original Retinue and I like this one's boxier appearance a little more than the original as well. It could do with more options to better resemble a bog stock MKII Escort though, something that was also a gripe about the MKI Retinue. The racing seats should've been optional, just like the lack of a front bumper and the fender flares. But for what it is, it does decently convey the aura of a 70's Group A Rally car but I'll have to see how it fairs on my "Budget Rally Racer" series of tracks later on.

Group A didn’t exist in the 70s, wasn’t invented until 1982-1983. Escort Mk2 rallye car was built to Group 4 specifications like the Stratos.

Just goes to show you can't always trust Google. The picture I based mine more or less on said it was a Group A car. Rally wasn't too big in the US so some information is sketchy at best, it doesn't help that I was fully expecting this car to be a fifth gen Escort RS Cosworth which was a Group A car either.

That’s what Wikipedia was invented for. Ain’t perfect, but it’s got heaps of good enough information

So many cool classic rally cars out there and R* decided to give us a less attractive successor of Retinue 😑. Pretty much a compulsory purchase too for off-road races in sports classics. Oh well...

Next new Ford should be Capri.

It should be the Uranus/Sierra Cosworth. The Cosseh, legendary for being the boy racer’s favourite. And infamous for being the most frequently stolen car in Britain. The Jag Mk2 of its time, because nothing the police of the time had could run it down. The only comparable car was the Lotus Carlton.

Don't like the camber when you lower it, looks all sorts of wrong - ok on a ricer but not on this.

Front and rear bumpers are naff too. I opted to keep the "stock" rally arches.

Seems to drive quite well though, haven't found a paintscheme I'm happy with - my Mk1 uses a livery to get as close to the Alan Mann cars of the era as possible. Was kind of hoping for a livery that was close to the Rothmans one of the works cars :

I somehow do not like the look of the original Retinue, but his one is not that bad.

I like the Dusche livery on it. I've recently taken up a Dusche sponsorship while I'm racing since I got the Rampant Rocket.

I’m beyond pleased to have another Retinue as I adore rally cars. But why the lack of rally gear then?

Yellow Dog with Cone

This car and the original Retinue should share the same liveries or at the very least the same sponsors.

Unlike the liveries of the original Retinue (which are based on RL ones) I haven't found a single RL match for the liveries of the Mk II version.

Agreed, the lack of mudflaps is glaring to say the least.

Something feels weierd about this car. Not performance wise but lack of customization. Why no aftermarket exhausts? Why there are only 2 hoods available in carbon? And i also can´t deceide on a color. Guess i change it again tomorrow.

So I finally took this through my Budget Rally Racer long track. It did alright but a little bouncy and it likes to spin.

Blame R* for the wheels.

Have to get extreme camber for better performance. I hate it.

Undervalued car.

Driving with stock suspension is pretty fun.

Lol at the Queefstat livery, I missed that some how. This little sh*tbrick has grown on me, still would have preferred a Comet or Bullet Classic, or a Stock 380 or Imperator just so those cars would finally be raceable. That being said, I prefer the way the MkII drives to the original Retinue by far, way easier to slide without rolling over and has better steering in general. I definitely have learned to love it.

But that's only for the Asbo and the Kanjo, right?

The difference feels negligible to me, I ultimately went with the first upgrade above stock and called it a day. The MkII also looks best with that suspension as well IMO, especially if you have it done up as a rally car.

I went with the 1st or 2nd level, I believe. I just don't see myself ever doing a Sports Classic rally race.

Oh, and this is a Top 2 car for me from this DLC so far. Really fun to drive, good customization. My main criticism is that some fender options completely mess up some of the liveries.

The lower suspension options really help to reduce lap times like in Broughy's video but you don't have to go all the way down. Somewhere in the middle gives pretty much the same effect. And I effin' love mk2 the way it drives. Such a smooth handling. Too bad about the quality of modifications. Not many rally parts there and some that are actually not (rally fenders were actually used on touring cars for example). In that department the OG Retinue wins hands down. Would have preferred some other classic rally car other than a newer generation of an existing vehicle. Something based on Alpine A110, Renault 5 or Peugeot 205 would have been cool or revive Uranus from GTA IV as a rally car based on Ford Sierra. Other than that it's one of my favorite cars from this DLC to drive around.
