Why no markers?

So I beat RDR 2 a week ago and I've been watching videos about all the hidden content found around the world.  It's kinda frustrating that there are no makers in the game telling you you've cleared a location, similar to games like Witcher 3, Rage 2, Mad Max, Just Cause 2, etc.  Without markers, a player is forced to find all the hidden stuff via online cheating, rather than organically by going to an actual location.  I've already beaten the game, so wandering around the map without a clue isn't really fun and there is still so much to see!  I'd like to know where I've been and where I haven't!
