Worth buying for PC now?

Recommended Posts

StuntMaster100

Hi I played GTA V on ps4 two years ago and sold it along with the ps4. Never played Online. However now looking up some online videos and it seems to be fun, but I heard there are lots of modders on the PC version. How many hackers/modders are there? Worth buying it on PC or not?

Will be buying only for Online not story now

Online is best played in consoles for the reason you have already stated.

So not worth it then? Unplayable on PC?

True; but I'd add that if you're fine with needing to change sessions on occasion or don't mind running into script kids/cheating, then yes--I'd say it's still well worth buying.

The PC still offers mouse and keyboard control as well as better frame rates, and you can still use a controller for things like flying if need be (Logitech's Cordless Rumblepad 2 is excellent).

I'm just so used to changing sessions and running into cheaters that it's nothing unusual per se. Annoying, yes--unusual, no. lol

Oh, its playable. Just depends on the people you come across. I play PC online as well as console, but stick to Invite Only sessions to keep myself safe.

^^ Since it came out on the PC in early 2015--I originally started on the PS3 in Oct. 2014, but transferred to the PC as soon as it was out on Steam.

The overall experience is good, even with the cheaters--you just have to get used to it; roll your eyes and change sessions.

Those cheaters/modders can be a pain in the ass, but if you play a lot with friends there should not be really a big problem, you might have to switch the sessions several times.

Which is great on Pc:

  • you can switch from mouse and keys to controller and back
  • the grafics are even better
  • no monthly payment for online play

I'd advice to save money for a different game.
Not because GTAO is playable or unplayable on PC, it's about the game's state in general.

Why? What's wrong about it?

How do you identify a cheater

It's barely breathing. GTAO was never meant to be a long-life game as it is today. The amount of updates and fixes are underwhelming compared to other modern games. The engine is old and it causes a lot of performance troubles too.

Nothing really holds me around this game anymore, the Online part of it.

Nah, I find that it's fine on PC for the most part. Yes, there are cheaters from time to time, but it can be resolved by just switching to a new session. No biggie.

Most of the time you can't identify the specific player(s) who is cheating, simply because they can do a lot in the background without making it obvious who is even cheating.

But if/when you get a feeling that someone is cheating--or actually see a player using god mode, etc.--it's best/safest to just change sessions.

You can also just launch an Invite-Only session for VIP work or tasks that don't require other players to be present.

BTW, the thread below may be helpful to you if you decide to play GTA Online on the PC:

I have been playing on PC for 2 weeks now and have had zero problems. I have done sales, NC promotions, setups, etc with zero interference. Folks go about their business and I love it.  I just keep an eye on the chat and when someone types cheater/modder I find a new session.

Only thing I don’t like is that I can’t really get any help outside of free roam. Auto invite never invites anyone. Once I saw it invite people from my session but never the walls of names I was used to seeing on PS4. I love stunt racing but have yet to race more than 4 people.

If you are ready to play in a solo public session, where cheater still can join in any time and turn the whole session into something which looks like one of The X Files episodes, then yeah it's worth it.

Other than that not so much. Especially if you don't have friends with who you could play GTA:O on PC in invite only session.

Are you using aim assist? Go into single player and check that it's not set on auto aim accidentally. Most PC players don't use aim assist because it's not beneficial, unless you're using a controller. Most PC players use a mouse and keyboard, so you are more likely to get people to accept invites if you're in a free aim session.

I stream from PC to my TV in another room, so I have no option but to use a controller. But I can't use free aim, because I get absolutely owned. It's much easier to use free aim with a mouse and keyboard than it is with a controller.

I think it's worth it.

It's true though that are lots of cheaters... odds are any session over 10 people is gonna have one.

But you can suspend the GTA process for like 8 seconds and it will remove everyone from the session.

If you don't have any IRL friends who want to play it with you then the hardest part will be finding fun people in the game who aren't jerks.

Does PC have more cheaters then console? -> Yes
Does this make the PC version the worse version? -> No
Should i buy for PC? -> Yes, i mean its even on sale now (in the rockstar launcher) go man go. (to bad you didnt check a few days ago when it was on bigger sale cuz racism friday)

This is total speculation, but they might stop with the console versions some time soon, GTA:O has been getting so much content over the years that the console games are starting to struggle

I'm so used to playing GTA Online in 60 fps by now that I don't think I would like the console version much.

I also built a nice network of friendly players, so I barely run in troublesome sessions anymore. They are almost always in a safe session when I log in.

You can just pull your internet cable for 8 seconds. It's quicker than minimising the GTA window, loading up the task manager etc etc...

Suspending is better, because in 99% cases it works like a charm, while pulling internet cable for 8 seconds in at least 60-70% cases is a reason why error message appeared and I was kicked back to the single player. At least that's how it is in my case.

I made the switch from console to pc and it’s been great, you will move sessions sometimes due to someone using a mod menu but honestly it hasn’t been that bad or often. Sometimes they aren’t malicious and do nice things for the lobby like make it snow (super fun when that happens) or if you ask they’ll change the weather and/or get rid of npc’s for the whole lobby to do the time trial. You take the good with the bad, and it’s not as bad as some will say it is.

I bounce back and forth since most invites come from free aim. Was in a good free aim lobby last night with plenty of racers.

Just have it open when you start the game (I pinned it to taskbar for quick access), run it in windowed full screen with pause on focus loss turned off. Hit alt+tab and done takes 15 seconds to do. the cable trick is hit and miss where as suspend process is guaranteed to work every time
