MOONSHINERS: A NEW FRONTIER PURSUIT (December 3rd)

Recommended Posts

Jason

COMING DECEMBER 13TH TO RED DEAD ONLINE

2b506480b536c1cd86c7f0ac1b4e02247cf24ac7

In an America not yet fully governed by law, opportunity abounds for the lawless - wild open space ready and waiting for the ruthless and ambitious to carve a new future for themselves. How better to make your fortune than to become a black-market Moonshiner, the all-new Frontier Pursuit coming to Red Dead Online on December 13th. Establish your own bootlegging business in this new Specialist Role – an ideal fit for players progressing along the Trader path or anyone seeking a property to call their own. Unlock unique role-specific skills as you perfect your distillation methods, avoid the law, and put rival peddlers out of business. If you’re lucky, you might survive long enough to open your own speakeasy.

f4988e3b39f4715be2b00b2fb61ae3c8a41d301e

Any active Trader who has completed a sell mission or reached Rank 5 in the Trader progression will receive an introduction via Cripps to meet the infamous Maggie Fike - an experienced bootlegger with the scars to prove it - down at Emerald Ranch. Maggie’s got the connections and the knowledge to help you get your business up and running.

Purchase a Moonshining Shack and you will be on your way. To passers-by, the Shack is an unassuming dwelling, the main floor acting as a front with all the details of an ordinary homestead. The basement, however, is where you'll ultimately get down to business.

fc7aa083d8d30a5e89f037a35f6e3efe4ca4538f

Owning and operating the Moonshine business is just part of your role. You’ll also work with Maggie through a series of story missions to be played solo or cooperatively as you help her get revenge on those who tried to take her down. As you grow the business (and eliminate a rival operation), you’ll learn new recipes and techniques that help make your moonshine the best by a country mile. You'll also have the opportunity to set up your own underground Bar serving your own shine, with customizable décor and the option to add a country band complete with dance floor to entertain your friends and clientele.

Look for much more to come to Red Dead Online alongside Moonshiners on December 13th - including Outlaw Pass No. 2, new Moonshiner role unlocks, the new Navy Revolver, additional clothing options and an increase in the amount of outfit slots in your Wardrobe.

Asking those who know their guns: Could the Navy Revolver be the Remington 1858?

I myself have no idea, but I keep hoping to see it in the game at some point, beautiful (and iconic) gun.

Now that I think about it, I have strong mixed feelings about this.

On one hand the whole thing sounds fun and exciting... But then I'm having GTA:O PTSDs with the nightclubs, bunker, or the numerous biker businesses... Where the game quickly become a management simulator before anything else. Where you have to regularly check-in, refill supplies (through missions or whatever), steal stuff and so on to keep your business "afloat", "relevant" and "functional"... And once ready for the payout, you do a delivery that other players can destroy, turning to wastes your hard work.

Part of me want to hope Rockstar learned a few things from GTA:O and this time around it'll be actually fun and excempt of easy access to griefing but... players stealing/destroying your stuff would be in the spirit of RDO just like GTA:O.

I assume upgrading and customizing the property will be somewhat expensive, ranging from 800$ to 1500$ per option with an high daily fee (around 20$? 50$?).

And those who have yet to unlock the trader will have this to pay too before gaining access to the Moonshiner.

I feel like it might be exhausting in the long run and my property could potentially become an abandoned thing. It's a good thing the Collections are accessible and rewarding but even this grind eventually become a chore.

I'm not so sure now if I'm excited. I'll probably go for the outlaw pass 2 since this one is temporary so more "urgent". Bit bummed they didn't mention anything about pass 1 on PC. Yay for new outfit options and slots.

I really hope my concerns about this are proved to be wrong. If it has anything like the popularity mechanism from After Hours nightclubs it will have just as little longevity.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be buying into the update, I'm not going to willingly miss out on content such as new story missions, but this sounds like it has far too much potential to be a GTAO style fetch quest business for my liking. Daily fees, raids, slow wagons, popularity missions etc. etc.

I really wanted more imagination than a (literally) underground business.

The role sounds potentially great but one role at a time is I hope not the standard going forward. The BH/Trader/Collector update was great because it introduced some genuine variety into the game, with this update everyone is going to be doing the same thing.

We're getting our first piece of property though which is interesting, I do wonder how it'll work. I really hope entering them is not the same teleport thing we have in GTAO but I expect it will be. Also any sort of maintenance mechanic like the Nightclubs in GTAO scare me, if we have to do some menial task to keep it generating money or full of people it will become either a chore or abandoned, and will not mesh well with the other roles and any future ones. I hope they learned their lesson on this but I would be surprised if they have.

Anyway regarding new cosmetics:

993Uhy9.png

New accessories? Belt also is new, never seen those arm things (dunno what their name is) before on shirts. The vest stuff is probably part of the vest its self but we'll see. The last picture in the article also shows bandoleers of course, but from the looks of it they may have similar issues to ponchos in that they look to "float" on characters in places. Hopefully that's not the case in game, if they have physics they'll be oof.

Also the guy in the left on the picture I linked isn't holding a glass and I can't unsee it.

Also the update is out on a Friday, which is... weird? Have they ever released an update on a Friday before? Perhaps there's something GTAO coming on the Tuesday?

I'm curious how the new role will work since it's reliant on Trader.  Is it a branch of the Trader, or is it a totally separate role?

I'm stoked for the new cosmetics and revolver.  I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they'll bring the M1899 to consoles.

I've got exactly the same concerns.

I really, really want to be wrong. I want R* to have learned from what didn't work in GTAO and for me to be eating a big slice of humble pie come the 13th, but I have this nasty feeling that I'll be going hungry.

No but it's just as good an addition and a very good sign of more to come.

Edit: I read your comment backwards, what I pictured was the 1858 not the Navy. It is now corrected

Tbh I wanted a update that focussed more on armed robbery like:

 - Robbing stage coaches

-  Robbing trains

- Robbing banks

It's just gonna be jarring if we go from a world with no teleports at all to a world with teleports. It'd suck, honestly. I've seen other games solve the problem so I know it's not impossible and it adds so much to these player owned properties when you're just able to walk in.

As for the maintenance stuff, yea I don't have faith. I wouldn't mind if it money slows to a halt if we don't interact with it at all but with stuff like nightclubs the place just dies if you don't interact with it, which sucks.

Couple things I am hoping for:

-Fix the camp and animal spawns

-Give console players the m1899 pistol

-Unlock previous role clothing items as individual pieces

-Give us the new role items as individual pieces

-Don't give us a popularity meter to maintain

-Don't introduce game-breaking bugs this time

If they can do all that, this could be a good update.

So here's my question. Who the fk on here even bothered to promote their nightclub for the sht money you got from the safe? The NC was all about the passive income from other businesses you owned.

Even if this is 2 part income business, moonshine/speakeasy, so what. I'm sure the shine business will be the money maker compared to the chump change from some safe. Don't overthink it.

I honestly did night club promotions regularly... (3-4 times a day)

Aint about the money for me, it's about keeping the place full of people. If I'm owning a Nightclub, or a speakeasy, I want people in there, if I have to do a boring task all the time to do that then I aint going to bother with it.

It is potentially even worse when you consider the fact that RDO's travel times aint like GTAO's. We have horses and not supercars/helicopters/hoverbikes, if I'm out in the middle of no where doing something else I don't want to have to track back to my speakeasy which I'm guessing will be in St Denis (?) just to keep the place populated.

Oh didn't think of that, RDR 2 interiors work slightly different than in GTA V, but we'll see. I do wonder if there will be new shacks around the map though.

Also yeah, this role is dependent on the trader role(you must have level 5) and then enough money to buy a shack, but will it be considered a new role, or will this introduce sub-roles to the main 3 roles, we'll see.

I'm just hoping we can live in the shack.

Which it sounds like we can.

Maybe the properties will be a good investment business wise. It's too early to tell yet.

Will we be able to sell the property if the business is no good? I would guess not because we were not able to sell the properties in GTAO if we didn't want them anymore. The properties became a leech that would drain from our accounts.

At least we can sleep in a home with 4 walls around. Does this mean Cripps will sleep in our home as well? He should pay rent if he does.

That's the thing, there was no point in keeping your popularity up and having the NC full. Maybe this speakeasy will be different, but I doubt it.
