Z87 Extreme4 is better in VRM department (12 power phase design, while MSI has 8 phases). MSI has more gaming-related stuff, though I believe most of these is pure marketing and not something particularly useful.

Thanks a lot. Then it will be Z87 Extreme4. MSI indeed has lots of gaming related stuff and one of the things I know of is the lagkiller.

I'm not that much into the multiplayer stuff but the main reason are games maxed out on 1080p and video encoding/decoding.

I love playing the GTAIII Era so the iGP of the i7 is also great instead of playing GTAIII/VC on a beast GPU.

It is more of a much balanced PC,

Basically, I'm looking for a way to "freeze" an active key in a window. I want to be able to press a key in a window and have it tell that window that another key is held down - to be specific, when I press F4 I want it to hold down the Up key until I hit F4 again. I just don't know the best way to do it - I thought maybe some kind of macro, or some sorta custom hotkey, but I don't know a good program/language to write it in. Basically, I know how to code, I just don't know what to code it in. Any good programs out there for writing macros/hotkeys?

Not completely sure, but I think stuff like that is handled by the Windows API (or probably whatever library handles that stuff). Plain old C should get it done pretty simply.

 

Autohotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) is supposed to be able to do hotkeys if you don't want to write your own, but I'm not completely sure it can do what you want, I've only played around with it a couple years ago.

Looking to buy a new pair of headphones, Anyone have any idea how the Audiotechnica ATH-M50's are? They seem to be the best deal for under $200.

What are you using them for? I've got a set of the ATH WS-55i ones for listening at work and I think they're excellent for low-mid-price audiophile grade over-ears. They aren't very portable though.

 

My under £100 over ear hit list is thus:

 

Portable every-day/travel- AKG 451

Office/holiday/daily use- Audio Technical WS-55i

Home audiophile- Grado SR-80i

 

The Grados are by far the best low cost audiophile earphones but they leak so badly that people will think your playing music on your phone speaker. Antisocial home use only. The AKGs are fantastic every-day portable jobbies but lack a bit of the depth and punch of the bigger ones.

There's definitely a difference in sound quality from normal earbuds and $30-$50 over-ears, but they're not life-changing or anything. I'm pretty sure they've got a decent range; I've never run into any tones that I couldn't hear in most music with them. They don't alter any frequencies either, which is nice.

 

Also, for whatever reason mine leak sound pretty badly. Supposedly they're not meant to, but there are other people with similar problems. The coiled cable is pretty heavy, so if you've got your headphone jack under your desk, or close to the ground you might prefer the straight cable, or just to move your computer.

Thank you gentlemen, Sivis: I was actually willing to spend a bit more than a 100 pounds but I agree with all your suggestions. I actually had the Grado SR-80i before it got stolen so I'm wanting to get better ones now, all of the reviews say that the Audiotechnica M50's are the best deal you could get under $200, considering I got a deal for $160 with shipping I'm happy.

You sure you didn't get a bad pair by chance? I've heard quite good things about these.

They respond very well to burn-in. My 55s were pretty average until I'd got a hundred hours or so through them by which time they seemed to have developed much more clarity and poise.

Bit late to the discussion here but I would have vouched for the Sennheiser HD line up. Have a pair of HD 518's and they're super comfortable and sound great!

The HD558s are also bloody awesome. Should be attainable for under $200. A little less detailed than the Audio Technicas and Grados but very, very comfortable and make great daily use headphones.

I'm worried about my PC...it's possessed!

 

It happened two times in total, my computer froze with no symptoms whatsoever, couldn't do anything but to hard reset. I do that...and my HDD is not recognized by the BIOS anymore! I fudge around with a Rescue DVD, it doesn't detect the HDD so there's no point, other than to look up in the Internet for help. Then I reboot the computer a few more times...and the HDD is recognized again !

So, is it because of:

- Motherboard? (it has some capacitors bulged up)

- HDD itself? (it has no SMART errors)

- SATA cable?

- something else?

I don't know much about over/on ear headphones, but I own a pair of V Sonic GR07 Mk II IEMs (if you're into IEM's I'd highly recommend this specific earphone) and they sound unlike anything I've heard before. Very portable and isolation is top notch. They're right around your price as well. But in terms of sheer sound quality, open ear headphones (such as Sennheisers) are probably your best bet.

My laptop has been turned into a burning sh*t, only on idle the GPU is 80C and yesterday I was playing GTA SA for 10

minutes and HWMonitor showed a motherf*cking 103C!

So yeah, it's getting serious now. And i have been thinking, is the i7-4770K really really worth it? Or should I better go

for the i5-4670K? Gaming would be my first main reason but what about video converting? I have plenty of videos in .mkv formats

and I want to convert them to .mp4 format. Paying an extra 60-90 euros is a bit, well, too much?

I see on YT there are videos showing gameplay of heavy games like BF4 abd CoD Ghost running at 90FPS and max was around 124FPS

on an i5-4670K at stock speed and GTX780.

Sure i won't be playing those ridicolous sh*t games but those games are bad optimized according by others.

GTAV? F*ck yes! GTAIV? F*ck yes! But do I really really need the i7-4770K? Only just to convert videos?

I haven't done anything but surfing around the internet, watching movies/eps and "trying" to play games *cough cough f*ck this burning sh*t couch ouch*

 

And which one would be the best choice: Noctua NH-D14 or Corsair H80i? They both seems to have great cooling solutions

and the Corsair is just 10 euros more, not a big deal.

i7 should be about 20-40% faster in video encoding, so the extra cash might be worth it. Also some games do benefit from the extra threads on the i7, but only a few. This might change in the future.

 

As for the cooling - Noctua all the way, at least when performance's concerned. To be honest though it's usually overpriced - Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E performs a tad better and most of the time it's cheaper. And then there's Phanteks PH-TC14PE, which costs roughly the same as Noctua, but is (probably) the best air cooler available.

However, the performance is indeed concerned in the future so it will be the Noctua or the Silver Arrow.

It should be noted though that Silver Arrow SB-E is pretty gigantic and requires a very wide case. Phanteks is probably also larger than Noctua, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

i knew it would be very hard to find But some 1 out there has it ,either with or with out a cord this should not be very hard for a company to make. if i can't find 1 in a year or so i will have to resort to getting a push button mic like the pic you linked so i can say what i have to when i need to in games. makes me kinda sad to see no company out there has made this simple yet effecient mic ,for those that use external sound devices like my Receiver . but not the end of the world. Also thanks for seraching but ive searched for yrs .

I have a question.

 

I have been thinking, power and electricity costs and use are on the rise. I have been thinking of ways to save money from cutting down the power use in the household. But, I know a lot of people have problems with having poweroutlets behind big TV units and in difficult locations.

 

 

I have an idea to create a, let's say, 'Hub' of the house were a screen is displayed and you can control the power consumption of your household. For example, if I didn't want to use the power or electricity in one room of the house (because no one was using it) I could go up to this touch screen called the 'hub' and turn off the power outlets by using the hub touch screen. Would this be possible and how would this be possible to create.

 

I am not familiar with electronics and I'm not sure if that invention is already been created. Tell me your thoughts.

Hey, I've been thinking I'd like to listen to the thoughts and feelings of everyone worldwide. I think that would really help me fight terrorism and child pornography, probably the devil too. I was wondering if anyone could help me set something like that up? I think I'll probably need a big, big computer, will a 6x86 P166+ be enough or should I get something from AMD? Will I need RAID?
