'K, what about Gigabyte PSUs? My friend is using a 620W one http://www.1a.lv/datoru_komponentes/barosanas_bloki/gigabyte_atx_23_620w_pfcactive_superb_gee620ac3 on his 8-core AMD FX build (has a similar GPU - non-OC Gigabyte GTX660). Hasn't failed yet.

And what about this bit cheaper one: http://www.1a.lv/datoru_komponentes/barosanas_bloki/gigabyte_atx_23_570w_pfcactive_superb_gee570ac3

Not that bad, but a bit steep price for what is basically a low-end PSU. I'd recommend something better, preferably modular.

Why modular? I could live with few unused wires dangling inside the case, I'm using a full-size ATX after all. Plus the unused wires are just another thing to lose (huge problem for me :D)

So, if I had to make a choice between those Gigabytes and the Corsair I linked earlier, which would be preferred one?

P.S. What about a Cooler Master (Maybe this one? Seems suspiciously cheap though http://www.1a.lv/datoru_komponentes/barosanas_bloki/cooler_master_atx_23_b_series_600w)

I don't know much about this one. It looks like it might be based on CWT GPA platform, which would make it a decent deal, albeit not that great of a PSU in itself. But I'm not sure. I'd stick with Chieftec BPS-500S2 in this price range.

Which thermal paste is the best for a CPU cooler? E.g. Noctua NH-D14?

And which mobo is the best?

I need a program (preferably a free one) that can download folders from a FTP (this one: ftp://ftp.modland.com/ ). I know you can download them simply by copy-pasting them on your HDD, but it doesn't work very well since the connection is frequently lost with the server and downloading stops. I need something that can resume downloads automatically.

Edit: Never mind. I found FileZilla which seems to work really well.

Arctic Silver 5 will be more than up to the job. There are better out there but mostly at greatly inflated prices.

Thanks. I found that thermal paste on the webshop, read the reviews and the reviews are very good.

No need to buy an expensive thermal paste if Arctiv Silver 5 is very good.

Arctic Cooling MX-2 and MX-4 are also a very good thermal paste, and in the same price range as the Arctic Silver 5, if not cheaper. Temperature differences shouldn't be too big though, if you use the thermal paste correctly.

Xilence always served me well.

Given that your method of identifying faulty power supply units is to see how much of a burning smell your components produce when plugged into them, I don't think your professional opinions on the issue are particularly trustworthy.

To be completely honest, only the older and the low-end Xilences are crap, other models are serviceable.

FYI Xilence was recently acquired by Listan, a brand that also owns Be Quiet, so their quality should progressively get better ;) I hope.

True enough but "serviceable" isn't really much of a recommendation, especially as you can do far better than it for the same price...

I admit that was rather idiotic. I was just desperately hoping that the GPU wouldn't be dead. Always had an issue of making up reasons to hope for something. Thankfully the other components seem to be OK (tested with an ancient PCI video card)

On the thermal paste section, I have Xilence in pretty much all my PCs. Seems to do quite well. Sadly, I haven't been able to overclock any of these to test how well this thermal paste handles that. Will certainly try as soon as possible.

I've been overclocking with Silver 5 for the best part of a decade. The Shin-Etsu X23-7783D is the best I've ever used but it's very expensive in comparison to most- about £10 per gramme.

Can anyone recommend me a good mobo?

What socket? Price range?

-E-

If it's Haswell, I'd be looking at an ASUS Sabertooth Z87 in the circa £200 range, and the MSI-Z87-G45 in the circa £100 range.

A mobo in combination of i7-4770 and a GTX780 Ti. And the PSU is the Cooler Master RS700W.

200 euro for a mobo is exceeding my budget a little bit. And I won't add any extra GPU and OC'ing

will be only done in the winter.

What is your budget? That MSI board has almost all the features of the absolute first rate stuff but is much more reasonable.

Yeah, I read all the specs. I still can't believe that mobo is so cheap and yet it's the best mobo!

My budget is €1850 including Windows7.

I already have a keyboard and a monitor and I always earphones for the best sound experience.

Z87 Extreme4 is better in VRM department (12 power phase design, while MSI has 8 phases). MSI has more gaming-related stuff, though I believe most of these is pure marketing and not something particularly useful.

I'm having some issues with Adobe Flash I believe which is making YouTube videos randomly stop after usually 15 - 20 seconds of play. I'm on Firefox and have tried uninstalling and re-installing Flash multiple times and clearing broswer cache but I still have the same problem. When i try Chrome I have the same issue. Any tips on where to go from here?

I had the same issue, uninstall flash and search Adobe's website for the flash uninstall cleaner and then roll back to a previous version, I'm currently using 11.9 r900 and it's working like it should be.

Still no luck and I've tried 11.9.900.152 and .117, and finally 11.8.800.168. I uninstalled properly each time too by closing down my browser, used the uninstaller, cleared cache in Firefox and deleted the appdata for Flash Player.

Try these steps first http://forums.adobe.com/message/4041846, see if that does it.

If not next stop try running the 'usuals', virus, spyware, chkdsk, disk cleanup, defrag.

Thanks! Seems to be alright now. This

is still causing me issues though. Using a Flash to HTML5 addon the video plays fine but the quality is lowered slightly.
