I assume it's D Link router and software for that? See if they can answer you directly, this is something even a support line operator should know, honestly

Hey guys, I have been trying to add some ports in NAT for fixing my Windows Live issue. Here are the ports which I want to add:

TCP 80, UDP 88, UDP 3074, TCP 3074, UDP 53, TCP 53

But I don't know where to add it. There is no add button. Can anyone help me?

Go here http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...ink/default.htm

Find your router model number

On the next page you would normally find the program you're trying to open ports for, however there isn't a listing for Windows Live.

I caution you against opening port 80 and 88. Just do TCP and UDP 3074. Don't worry about port 53 unless you know 100% for sure that it's needed.

What exactly is the problem you're having? If you already posted in here please link to that post or explain it once again...and sorry if I missed it.

Anybody have any experience with Powerline adapters?

Not personally, but a company I've done work for has used them in an installation in a conference centre as a sort of portable network spot, they do work quite well apparently, even in a mass electrically phased system as the average conference centre has.

The guy who did the installation tried them out at his house first and he ended up buying a couple himself, so he could set up a basic home network for routing his TV feed to his bedroom.

Can anyone help me understand why my Gigaware wireless mouse just stopped working? I've replaced the batteries, hit the 'refresh' button (don't know what else to call it) on the back of the device, and...nothing. I'd never had to install any drivers for it (using mac osX10.6.8), so I don't think that'd be an explanation. It seems as if the mouse is simply dead, but I'm having a hard accepting that as it isn't even more than a year old. Any suggestions are appreciated smile.gif cheers

I can't login Windows live in my GTA 4. I want to play Multiplayer and earn Acievements but it always shows this error: "The Username or or the Password is incorrect. Please try again". There was this issue with RGSC but I fixed it by patching 1.0.7.0. I was thinking if I do the Re-Send Validation but I don't know if Xbox live.com has this service. confused.gif

So, the other day I saw one topic in some other forum related to this. It says that your firewall should allow these ports so that you can login in GFWL. I am not sure if this will work. Any other advice?

I had that problem with Batman:AA. I forget what my exact fix was, but I know I didn't have to open any ports to my firewall.

Try opening GFWL without being in game. If you're in Vista/8 just do a search for Games For Windows. And trying logging in there. Since it's tied to Hotmail account, use your web browser to log into that same account to make that's working as well. Do the same at Xbox.com.

You might also need to update GFWL. I think I also remember reading, and doing, something about running Games For Windows Marketplace (should some up in the same search results when you're looking for GFWL) but I think you pretty much get the same same thing as GFWL. I had to try a bunch of times before it finally worked. Drove me nuts too.

Side note: I forgot it was called GFWL so when I said, "...there isn't a listing for Windows Live," that's because I was searching for exactly that 'Windows Live'. After you reminded me that it's GFWL I did find that listed. My bad. I haven't played BAA in a long time, haven't played GTA4 even longer.

Rant: I really hate these things like GFWL and Uplay (Ubisoft's version of GFWL). You can't play the game or you can't save your game or play saved games unless you're connected to the net. And I've come across 1 game app like that on iOS, which I deleted because the game sucked and the network connection thing.

@TheCacti

Is it bluetooth or what? If it is bluetooth is it using bluetooth build into your Mac (if it has it) or are you having to use a USB adapter.

If you're having to use a USB adapter for any reason, try unplugging it and plug it back in.

It's connected via USB. I've certainly tried that. No dice. Is it possible that I would need to install a driver for it?

Tried a different USB slot?

Try a wired mouse as well to make sure it's not the USB ports

This may seem a daft question to many of you, but after checking aorund Google for some answers, I thought I'd ask in here to get more of a personal answer. Basically, I'm now only able to use the internet on my sister's laptop, since I can't get my PC to connect to her wireless network for some strange reason, but I digress. What I'm wanting to know is, is it possible to install programs on to my portable external HD, and run them on her laptop, without anything actually getting installed/changed on her laptop? I've seen it actually is possible to install programs, but not sure if it will change settings or start saving unwanted stuff on to her laptop. For example, if I was to want to install Firefox and run it from my HD, but on her laptop, would anything get put on to the laptop?

Also, I'm trying to download and install ITunes for my PC, but it keeps telling me it's not a valid 64x program, or something to that effect. What is this, and where can I get the other version that will work for me?

Last question for now - Is there any way of 'hacking' XP SP3 to allow it to let me customise the themes, as was possible with the earlier SP's? I have Vistamizer installed and running, but SP3 has effectively stopped half of the program from installing the theme changes, such as the custom Vista start logo etc.

You could run portable editions of the programs.

Also you can just download a theme patcher for XP SP3.

It sounds like you've got a 64 bit system and you've downloaded the x86 version of iTunes.

64 Bit Version of iTunes

As for external HD Versions of programs, you could plug in the external HD and then run your installer for what ever programs you want. Install it on your external hard drive and then once installed you can then copy what ever shortcuts etc that the program installs over to your external hard drive. As you install each program you might need to disable any "Automatic Update" features that the software has because this will run on the Operating System on the laptop and if your hard drive isn't plugged in then it might try and update and start throwing up messages about not being able to find the program etc.

You'll probably be best doing it this way as most installers will need to copy details into the registry and into the system directories like Windows and Windows/system 32 etc.

Then when you want to run the program plug in your HD and then use the shortcuts you have saved aside.

Start with this to get more info about portable programs http://portableapps.com/

Their main download is for something that will put a lot of the apps onto a USB stick/drive and when you connect to a PC it'll have it's own menu (Start button if you will) to which you can launch the apps. You can also check under Get Apps to add more apps to the list. It's also easy to remove the pre-installed apps if you want....I think after you create the USB stick you can explore it and just delete the ones you don't want/need.

A Google search for: XP SP3 theme hack turns up a number of results. The primary ones talk about replacing the uxtheme.dll which has been the most common way of doing it since XP came out.

See, I didn't bother checking Google or anything out, simply for the fact that that's the way you used to patch the theme anyway, and I thought one of the purposes of SP3 was to stop this from happening, but it seems not. Thanks, will check some sites out for that then. smile.gif

And cheers for all the other help too, much appreciated guys. smile.gif

No, SP3 was mostly small security and speed enhancements if I remember correctly. I'm thinking there was 20-25% performance increases on some systems, or that may have just been a rumor around the time of release. But locking up uxtheme.dll was never an intended purpose as far as I know. I'm not even sure if that was one of the updated files.

Think I've just clicked onto what happened. I was going by the fact that I re-installed Vistamizer when I updated to SP3 and it not allowing me to patch the taskbar/themes, but I'm guessing it meant that I'd have to re-edit the .dll file. blush.gif

Anybody had experience with building a HTPC? I'm interested in building one for the sole purpose of streaming over the internet, and occasionally films from USB.

Trying to keep it practically silent/no moving parts but naturally where I plan to keep it running almost constantly (which is in a cabinet) could be a problem.

Ok, here's more of a direct question since Wolf wanted something akin to that... Which figure for valuing the Facebook stock is the right one?? I heard three different ones mentioned!

Apparently 500 shares traded hands by day's end. It wasn't as high as some expected, but I hear Bono of US made nearly over 1 billion bucks when Facebook went public!!

@.Lycosa: I'd ditch the HD6450, and get an A8 AMD CPU with integrated graphics. Seems like a better option. Also you should consider getting a better cooling for the CPU, because the standard one is not going to be really silent.

Hi all blush.gif ,

I have had it with my SSD, and was wondering how much i could sell it for?

It is a Corsair Force GT 240GB that I've put up with since november. It has no real problems

besides the usual SSD whoas like being overpriced and lack of space.

I also wanted to know if I could get money back using the warranty, does corsair have a satisfaction or money back thing?

Why on earth would you want to sell it? SSD's are phenomenally faster over mechanical hard drives.

Corsair doesn't have a money back guarantee or anything. Perhaps the place you bought it from might? As for selling, it's obviously used so you're probably only going to get about half of what you originally paid for it. Honestly, you might as well just hang onto it. If there are issues with it, contact Corsair and they'll get them sorted for you. They're customer service is great.

Well one of the main reason that ive been thinking of for a couple of months

is that it doesn't "Feel" fast. A couple of months ago I used the 1tb HDD as a boot

drive to test the SSD and the 1tb HDD boot up just as fast as the SSD even though

the SSD got the same benchmark scores as its specification stated. In games GTA IV

loads up after the same amount of loading screens as the 1tb HDD did.

That's not right. An HDD should never outperform an SSD like that. Sounds like something isn't right with it. I'd contact Corsair customer support and RMA it.

Hi, fellas. I'm in the market for an external RAID 1 setup. Something with a couple of drives and a 1TB capacity would be ideal, preferrably with an eSATA connection, although FireWire or USB would do. After a poke around on Google I found the LaCie 2TB Quadra and this one from Verbatim, which both seem to do what I'd want them to and wouldn't break the bank, but if anybody has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I got LaCia used for an external drive, it was 500GB, internally however, just daisy chained 250GB x2, so probably something like RAID used to do that, I went with a PCI express card using the small "x1" slot, you just add cabling inside and mount all your drives in the normal case locales

As I'm sure a few of you know, my Nvidia card died a few weeks ago. Got my 6870 today. Installed the drivers and everything is working fine, except for the fact that I cannot remove the Nvidia driver. I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of it, but whenever I click uninstall it does nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

Main thing that matters is that the graphics driver is uninstalled.

Click start, type "cmd," press CTRL + Shift + Enter, type "set devmgr show_nonpresent_devices=1," type "start devmgmt.msc," click "view, show hidden devices," click "display adapters," right-click the nvidia driver, click uninstall, click "delete driver software for this device."

As for the rest of the nvidia related stuff, delete C:\Nvidia, and maybe use Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner if you're worried about the rest. Other main thing is just disabling NVIDIA services and auto startups. Can use Autoruns for that.

The driver being available to the system isn't going to hurt anything. The driver itself wont run unless there's a compatible card installed. There are thousands of drivers preloaded into windows that never run unless you happen to install that specific hardware They don't hurt anything.

Deleting 'C:\nvidia' will delete all of the installation and setup files associated with nvidia, though the driver itself and software will remain.
