Mister Pink

Twice, recently my Macbook Pro has got disconnected from my network. I tried resetting the router and restarting my laptop.

When I do a network test, it fails on Internet and server. Network Settings show an amber light but not red or green.

Currently I'm connected via ethernet.

Anyone know what it may be in my settings? I seemed to fix it last time, well, it seemed to fix itself after I was connected via cable last time.

Also, Airport is working. I can see my network wirelessly and other networks.

Thanks for any help.

You said you power cycled the router, does that mean the Airport or do you have router and an Airport?

Exactly which Airport do you have?

I've had this happen in the past with 2 different Airport hubs and even an Airport Express. However there was real fix other than the power cycle it. I switched to from one Airport to the Express for a while until the Express started doing it, then switched back to the Airport. We've now moved onto the latest Airport Extreme and so far so good, for about a year now I think.

Also make sure the firmware is up to date. Not sure it'll help but in theory it shouldn't hurt.

*FIXED** (I was over looking the Assistant button. Clicking on that then it prompted me to choose my network again and it worked, simple.)

I'm have a router and Airport. It says it's on. I can see my network and my neighbours but and my network is has got a full signal but wont connect. sad.gif

I don't know what version mine is. Would I be right when saying it's 802.1x?

I checked for general updates. Is there away to check specifically for update for the wireless firmware?

Thanks man. icon14.gif

Use the Airport Utility to check for updates.

802.11 is the designation for wireless network. After that there are A, B, G and N type of wireless networks.

Have a look at this, it should help narrow down which Airport you have http://support.apple.com/specs/#airport Of course you can also get the model number from the bottom of the unit and find out that way.

Thanks for the info but I did update my post last night. I fixed it. It was a simple fix by going in to Assistant and it asked which network I wanted to connect to and then that I put my WPA2 code in and it worked. Strange.

Still getting used to this Mac. Any issues I have are fixed really simply and basically, I'm still learning, lol.

Handy to know that info though Wolf, so thanks. icon14.gif

Put the update at the end of the post.

Is it possible for me to change the colour of the buttons in IE9?

Apparently it only works with 'pinned' sites, although from what I can gather looking around google, it's quite temperamental.

Not that I use IE9, it's slow, laggy, doesn't display pages properly, cumbersome... I'm sticking with Firefox.

Is Chrome any good as I have that installed but never use it?

I've got it installed myself, but I don't really use it, tried it out for a little browse around and found it quite plain and boring.

I'm one of those people that like to see things not have them hidden away. But it's personal choice really.

Takes some getting used to but Chrome is great.

Takes some getting used to but Chrome is great.

I also find it to be much faster than Firefox as well.

I keep getting this error in Photoshop CS4 (Extended) saying something along the lines of "Photoshop “Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized" whenever I try to add text to an image.

I use my laptop for Photoshop btw. If specs are needed well here:

HP G60 Notebook PC

3GB DDR3 RAM

Intel 4500m

300GB HD

Help?

Which button in that screen shot are you trying to change?

The back button or what?

If you do mean the back/forward button or any of the other buttons but not the icons for the bookmarks, basically mean you want to change the theme of IE9. From what I've found there is no built in way to change the theme. There might be third-party program that can change it.

@Mockage

Did you just install CS4 recently and started getting this right a way? Or did you recently install any new fonts at all?

If you installed a new font(s) how exactly did you do it?

What OS?

MS used to let you play around with IE settings via Local Group Policy, too bad it only works with IE6.

Local Group Policy is not available with Home based OSes.

I've had CS4 for 3 years and the last time I installed fonts were about 3 months ago (forgot which one it is, really).

I'm running Vista Home Premium (x86) btw.

Los Santos Pedestrian

So my old Apple headphones broke yesterday. Trying to find a replacement before I buy new ones, I found this ancient and massive headphones from about 1985. Surprisingly, even with a cable that can be stretched out to the Moon, they can fit in my computer and sound great. Should I just keep the half-pound beast or buy new ones?

Edit: I think the cable weighs more than the headphones themselves; that just shows how old they are.

You're answering your own question, if they sound great then why get new ones.

Out of interest do you know what type of headphones they are, Make, Model etc.

They're Sony headphones and possibly an "MDR-V6" model.

Odd. You can give this a try anyway and see if it helps http://hyacinthus.wordpress.com/2007/11/03...up-and-running/

Scroll down and look for “Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized” where he explains what he did to fix it.

Cliff notes: basically he went to the Fonts folder and "reinstalled" the fonts that are already installed.

So, I'll be sorting out my new rig at some point soon, and after looking around, I was wondering what was better, to have one good graphics card, or two decent ones for roughly the same price, if anyone can shed some light on this? icon14.gif

That's a hard question to answer.

You can get 2 GTX550Ti's and they will perform as well if not just out perform a GTX570 however both options would cost just about the same.

Now if you played a lot of the small handful of games that uses nVidia PhysX then you can set 1 card to be the primary and the other to be a dedicated PhysX card and would/should well out perform the single card, for those games only.

I looked at a review for the GTX550Ti in SLI and found that of the 8 games they tested there was only 3 games where this setup was able to out perform a GTX580. Other wise it was pretty much a match to the 570 or a middle ground between a 560Ti and 570.

I have a Sony DVD-R that appears empty but IMGBurn tells me it is "incomplete", after trying to write a ISO for Win8 to it, it says it has no reservations left, that there's 2MB or 2GB?? of free space left. I think it was a very small chunk, 2Megabytes for some reason, this would appear 'etched' on the surface of the disc, I can't do a TEST or VERIFY setting using IMGBURN, is there a tool to find out what is on the disc if it won't read properly, is it one I must cast out and is basically DEAD?!?

Ditched the BIOSTAR Barebones kit. Turns out it had some pretty bad reviews in terms of the mobo, PSU and the case.

I "built" my own system on Superbiiz here

This is all without the Hard Drive, OS and non-integrated GPU., totaling in at $238.65. My budget is around $350 and I'm willing to go a bit higher than that (just not exceeding over $400). Can anyone recommend a good Hard Drive and GPU (like I've said before, good enough to run GTA IV, BF3 etc..)? I've looked at the ATI Radeon HD 6670 (from what I've read, it's not THAT PSU dependent) and the GTS 250. Don't know much about Hard Drives though. I'm looking for 370GB and up. That's all I need really.

e- Just to clarify, my budget for a GPU and a Hard Drive is about 100 bucks.

I could recommend this Graphics Card as it's the one I have and it does GTA:IV fine and would run BF3 (although not on full on, but in my onion, that's probably a good thing) Radeon HD 6870.

There's probably other places you could try, I'm just giving that link as an example.

As for Hard Drives, there's not much to recommend, they're all pretty much of a muchness. I would only recommend, going for the fastest speed at least 7200 RPM at the minimum, other than that it's only size and cost. Each manufacturer all make their hard drives in the same factory in Thailand, just with a different sticker on.

Not Biostar in general, I hope. I bought Biostar as mentioned, if not sold though, I'd be stuck using it, and just because of the socket 1156, Not too encouraged to that end

Googling for a supplier of parts, I just keep coming back to my own information I've put forth, not much help since I can't score the parts I need without the limited eBay selection or over-priced etailers.

As much as I like and endorse the 4710 Aspire, I have to say, it's VERY tough to get parts for, so make sure you score it in good condition from the get go

This site links to my video as did Google and others now it seems. I am famous in a way
