I just discovered my router was hiding a 5ghz, I read somewhere that 5ghz is better for online game play over 2.4ghz as long as i\, close to the router with minimal wall interference.

How true is this?

True.

2.4 GHz band provides coverage at a longer range but transmits data at slower speeds. 5 GHz band provides less coverage but transmits data at faster speeds.

Anyone got much experience with Broadwell-E? I might have "accidently" won a 6900K on eBay.

I know they're pretty hot runners and tend to be hamstrung to about 4.3-4.4GHz even at voltages pushing 1.4v, but with a full custom loop (1 360x30 and 1 360x60 cooling CPU and GPU) I figure I've got decent headroom? What sort of XMP profiles are they happy running?

Having some issues right now, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Trying to get a Firewire card in my rig, absolutely refuses to boot - powers on for a split second and shuts off. My friend gave me the card and said it worked but was slightly finnicky in his rig. Wont boot in either of my PCI slots (supermicro x8dtl-if), have fiddled with bios settings and such. Presuming card is dead/f*cked but any ideas would be nice.

Sounds like it's causing a short of some kind and tripping the protection in your PSU.

I mean nobody's asked the question of why you want FireWire in the first place?!

I ended up just grabbing another card off amazon that was PCIE instead of PCI, didn't have much faith when the box was labelled "PCI Experss"  but alas it worked.

Had to get a card as around two years ago my friend bought an old camera bundle (Canon XM1 and an Opteka fisheye) for a good price to film skateboarding with however he isn't the most proficient at editing whereas I've been doing it for years so I offered to take all the tapes and edit it all thinking yeah this will be easy. The editing itself is no biggie but f*ck me it's a hassle capturing 7/8 MiniDV tapes and trying to organize all the footage, probably gonna move to a HD camera in the future but it's a shame there aren't really many 4:3 HD options on the market.

Has anyone else with an RTX series card experienced crashing on otherwise totally stable overclocks when using Ray Tracing?

I've just started Control and have been experiencing persistent but frequent crashes. Dialling back my overclock which works perfectly on everything else and it seems to be absolutely fine.

I'm gathering Feedback as I'm in the process of searching for a new Desktop computer, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with an Intel I5 8400 paired with an RX580 ARMOR 8GB GDDR5.  The system comes with 8GB of DDR4 Memory but not sure on the Mhz as it's not stated in the ad.

Is this system capable of handling VR? Not that I currently have any plans for it but still something I'm thinking about none the less.

I plan to mostly do Gaming on this System If I get it with video editing at no more than 1080P HD for the time being.

Mister Pink

Whats the best way to upgrade the SSD in my laptop without losing all my work (more specifically my music production progress)?

Background:

I have a laptop with an SSD and HDD. Windows, video/photo/music editing software and my music I created is all on the SSD and I use the HDD to store all my photos and video.

I think I read, that I can clone my SSD, over to a new one? What does this entail? Does cloning an SSD mean I don't have to do re-installs? What about licensing?

My major worry is VST's/Insturments I have installed for music production. I wasn't organized when I installed them so they're installed in the different places on the SSD. My biggest fear is not transferring over all the VST's I have and me launching my DAW and and loading a track I'm working on but it can't find the instruments I used. I mean the notes will be there but often I'll have designed a synth sound and if I lose it, hours will gone down the drain. I tried to be organized but you know how things go after a year or so.

Thanks in advance.

Something like CloneZilla, mirror your SSD to a new one using a USB dock or similar, then use partition manager to expand the partition (assuming your new drive is bigger)

Nice one Sivis. Much appreciated.  Seems much more straight-foward than I thought.

Anyone (I'm particularly thinking @Azazel and @HaRdSTyLe_83) got any recommendations on ultra-quiet radiator fans? Looking for something under 25dB at or around 1200rpm that still maintains decent static pressure.

Currently the Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 looks like the top choice with similar performance to my SP120s but at half the noise output.

I have a confession to make - I rarely even consider the stats when purchasing fans, and go merely for the ones I find the most aesthetically pleasing. The "noisiest" fans for me, are the ones that don't match my build. 🤣

Ryzen Vs. Intel?

considering a new desktop and curious thoughts. Comparing the Alienware aurora R10 Ryzen vs the R11 with i9 10900. Is there *any* reason to pay $500 more for the intel?

Unless I was aggressively overclocking I wouldn't go i9, but to be honest I wouldn't go near either of those. At the kind of money you're talking it makes a lot more sense to build your own.

Hi everyone. This sounds like the right place. I must admit that I am no where near being a tech person. Anyway. here's my question.

I purchased a PS4 Uncharted bundle in 2016. I've never connected to the internet and have not updated the system software. I am currently at 4.00. Do you think I should update to the latest version or a pervious version? I have been reading on the Playstation site regarding updating via a USB drive. Is this the best way to update or should I somehow find a way to connect my PS4 to the internet. Also I am a little confused about installing the update in Safe Mode or simply inserting the USB drive into the normal mode of the PS4.

I am asking all this because I recently found out that I am unable to play Metro Exodus without updating the software. An even better choice would be a game with a later version of the firmware already embedded on the disk. Do you guys know of one so I can purchase and update my system that way?

Hope I have been clear enough and hope you guys can help.

Hi there, sorry this is a late reply and you probably have it done by now.

Here is a very informative video on how to do a manual install on the PS4. It should be quite easy for anyone that knows the basics of copy/pasting files on to a USB etc.

Thanks Mister Pink. I will take notes from this video and give it a go. I hope I won't get stuck in a Safe Mode loop.

Finn 7 five 11

Hi all.

I don't have a recycle bin on my windows 10 64 bit laptop I never have. I have tried searching it. Looking at installed programs list and also showing hidden files and folders. Quite simply put. I do not have recycle bin anywhere. I try to search the web for help but it points me to the above solutions.

Any idea where I can download it? Kinda getting on my nerves now.
Thanks

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to ask but, my PC freezes/BSoD/restarts if I turn it on and DON'T restart right away, however if I turn it on and restart, it will stay on for as long as I keep it on with no crashes. I've changed the HD, switched RAM slot and formatted a few times but nothing changes. Any idea of what might be causing that?

I guess this is a bit of an obvious question but do you have an error code that comes up when you BSOD?

How do I preserve the date of photos I'm transferring from an old micro sd card (on my laptop through a micro sd adapter) to a newer micro sd on my phone?

The EXIF data should not change when you transfer images.

If you mean the file names change upon transferring, you could try this. Archive all the images into a .zip/.7z/.rar archive (what ever format you prefer), while you have the phone connected to your laptop.

Transfer the archive to the new micro sd and then unzip/unrar it.
