GTA V story, shooting whilst in vehicle

Decided to go back and play GTA V story, on Xbox One.

I remember when i first played it and always found it difficult to shoot whilst in a vehicle, trying to drive, keep up the correct speed and aim at whomever i'm targeting but always missed and even online missions where i had to shoot someone in a car/on a motorbike i couldn't get it to be flexible enough and took multiple attempts.

I believe auto assist is enabled as if i kill an enemy on foot it focuses on them when i press the left trigger, but this doesn't happen in a vehicle. Am i missing a trick or is this just the standard way to shoot when in a car?

It's the standard way as far as I know. I agree it's hard to shoot while in a vehicle in V. In IV you press one button to stick the gun out the window and shoot, for some reason they decided you have to press a button to stick the gun out AND another button to shoot in V. When you already also have to be thinking about driving the car and aiming with the stick that extra button makes it quite a bit harder imo.

I feel like maybe there is some kind of vague auto aim in play though? Not the traditional auto aim but it seems like when it's a mission where you're chasing an enemy and you first stick the gun out and shoot it often starts you off with it already pointing at the enemy in the vehicle. Am I correct about this or no?

there should be an option to make it like gta 4’s. i mean, you can switch it in xbox 360(old gen) version with updates, so why not on xbox one?

Yeah, there's totally an option for it to be like IV's in the settings.

Actually guys there is an option for alternating between the two modes in the control section of settings. You can switch between "L1 to shoot"  and "L1 to aim and R1 to shoot(L1+R1)" .I myself always use the first method(which was also used in IV and last gen V)

Isn't this only on the current gen/pc version? I could have sworn the PS3/360 versions of the game treated drive-bys the same as IV. You only have one button to shoot and aim. It has been a while since I played it though

i have a xbox 360 physical copy. i didn’t have internet when i first bought it. when i connected it to internet, it said there is an update for the game, i installed it, then interaction menu and drive-by with two buttons were added. a pop up told me about them.

Say what you want, but I've been wanting the Aim+Shoot drive-by controls since I grabbed GTAIV for the first time, great improvement over the predecessors

Topic: There should be auto aim for when you're trying to shoot people whilst in vehicle.

Off-topic: How do you have a moving gif below your name?

Not saying I'm a pro, but really have no issue with drive-by manual aim TBH 😁

That GIF is my GTAF gang

I have it on 360 and as far as I can remember I've always had to use two buttons to aim and shoot. If there is indeed an option to switch between the two maybe mine was just set differently for whatever reason though. Certainly going to be changing it next time I play.

if you didn’t touch it after the update on 360, it is that way, gama changes it to two buttons as soon as the update is installed. you gotta go to settings to make it the old style.

btw if im not mistaken, there is two button option on pc for gta 4 right?

Apparently it came with the update that introduced the interaction menu. My 360 copy remains (almost) completely unpatched, so explains why I've still got IV drive-by mechanics

In GTA: San Andreas there was even a cheat that unabled drive-by shooting and the crosshair was always visible upon entering a car like in Saints Row. Pretty nice cheat for police chases
