-some things that are available in singleplayer are paid in multiplayer

-dialouge is trash

-cutscenes are trash(%90 of em)

-atmosphere is weak, it changes in each chapter

there probably more i forgot now

edit: Still Loading

i’d rate it 4/10

Every Rockstar game after GTA IV disappointed me up until Red Dead Redemption 2. Max Payne 3 had some dope moments that I can appreciate now in retrospect, but yeah couldn't stand the story when it first came out. I'd say GTA V was the worst offender though - a technological masterpiece but the amount of sh*t writing and cut features makes me sad to this day. It's grown on me over the years but never felt so disappointed in my life as I did launch night.

Lemoyne outlaw

i would say la noire. the story was okay at best. but it was more boring and not very fun. i know it was not meant to be a big shooting game like gta. but i still am not a fan of that style. and even after you beat the story there is hardly anything to do. no fun or unique minigames or side jobs. except a few collectables or police calls. they also made a huge deal about the face capture stuff. i honestly did not care about it at all.

yeah some people say that(i haven’t played it yet though), what is the main reason for that in your opinion?

San Andreas.

I liked the simple approach of GTA III and Vice City, but I remember even back in 2004 being underwhelmed by San Andreas despite its bigger map, more features etc. Some people probably think I don't like San Andreas out of spite or something, but truthfully I've never really liked it very much.

Compared to GTA IV it's a joke of a game IMO. but even compared to GTA III and Vice City it felt like a step backwards. I was disappointed that was the direction the series was heading and the two games that followed didn't do much to inspire me either only that GTA IV course corrected things I may have stopped being a GTA fan altogether.

I realise I may be in a very small minority, but I don't f*cking care to be honest.

Grand Theft Auto is the only franchise I've played when it comes to Rockstar Games, so I'll stick to that.

GTA V.

Just like SOL when it comes to San Andreas, I also prefer the simpler approach of GTA III, Vice City and GTA IV for not having features such as RPG elements, bigger map regardless of layout and details (just look at the desert), special abilities that shouldn't have been added to a GTA game to begin with, so on. I'm not against featuring planes or parachutes, though, but not when they're shaved in too many missions.

As far as gameplay goes, too many elements were downgraded from GTA IV, including core mechanics, such as driving, shooting, combat, physics, Euphoria, parkour, as well as A.I., interiors, and even weapon sounds.

Story is subjective, as is gameplay when it comes to several elements, but the fact that it has more to do with government agencies and militias than traditional crime organizations when it was supposed to revolve around the "Pursuit of the Almighty Dollar" theme really holds it back. The endings are quite weak, as are the antagonists. I'm also not a fan of its too cheesy humor and edgy characters.

GTA V. The regression in essential gameplay mechanics was uncalled for and the story focuses on elements that to me feel the most "un-GTA" like in the main series. I still like the game, but I wish I could like it more as a Grand Theft Auto title. Mods help to alleviate some gameplay flaws, but still...

GTA fans that weren't satisfied with either SA or IV at least got what they wanted from their respective successors and didn't have to wait so long, but at this point I'm wary of the future of the series.

Grand Theft Auto V, before that I would say L.A.Noire but GTAV made me appreciate the attention of detail and how massive LA was in L.A.Noire and with all the interiors that were available, made V's Los Santos feel small in comparison.

All three cities in San Andreas were big downgrades from the previous two games. Liberty City was very well crafted, Vice City had tons of interiors, yet all three cities in San Andreas felt half-baked.

For me GTA 5 often put too much effort into things that sounded cool on paper but just became pointless details once the novelty wore off, such as the ocean and a variety of vehicles. The game would’ve aged better had they not taken the criticism of 4 so literally. I am personally curious how much optimizing the game for last gen consoles used up time that could’ve been used for other things. I still really enjoyed playing it though.

Can you verify the “cut features” of GTA 5? I have seen numerous people say that because of having to run on the last gen consoles things were cut and toned down, but aside from things like more trees at the beach I don’t see any proof or any details on what the cut features were.

GTA 5’s story mode. It just feels soulless, mindlessly bouncing from one Hollywood action flick reference to the next. Trevor, Michael, and Franklin all felt shallow and unlikable with no real depth of personality. It honestly felt like Rockstar were parodying themselves, or as if they looked at the criticism of GTA 4 and said “you want a bad San Andreas knockoff, fine. We’ll give it to you” like how a passive-aggressive teen will rewrite a report after their teacher looks over it and says it needs to be redone by being as cheeky as possible.

Compared to the gritty nuanced approach they took with GTA 4, 5 was just a let down. The map feels oddly sized and designed, the gameplay feels disjointed and as if it can’t decide what it wants to be, the story was lazy, and the characters all sucked. They hyped up the three protagonist thing so much, but it really just feels like the game would’ve been much better had they devoted all that time and effort to a single protagonist. The end result just feels like a game they phoned in. Which is a shame, because I know it wasn’t. The sheer scale and the graphics all prove a lot of people put a lot of time and love into it. But the people at the top just didn’t.

GTA IV.

I was so excited to see how far R* could really go after San Andreas. Playing a game like San Andreas makes you really speculate about the greatness of the next game and I was hyped to see what R* had in store for us.(Specially considering the fact that video games were evolving towards complexity at the time with newer tech and engines, I couldn't wait to see the development of this franchise). Although GTA IV is still a masterpiece of a game , I was pretty disappointed with Rockstar's ambition at the time(or to put it this way, the aspects most of their ambition was focused on at the time). My expectations fell after GTA IV and still haven't recovered. I enjoy most of the Rockstar games after IV and consider them ahead of most devs. But still I expected far greater things from a company that made a game like San Andreas in 04.

GTA V & Online. It's the main reason why I don't even care about a sequel anymore.

Also, Manhunt 2. The story is good, but the gameplay and censored viscera is a leap down.

Honestly, as of now, no Rockstar game has ever dissapointed me. I've always looked up to them and their games.

But if we even consider it a "game", I would say Online. Sad how they made the single player so good but the online so bad. If you want, you could just play last gen Online. Still mediocre but much better than the Saints Row sh*t we got now.

Grand Theft Auto V because...

- The lack of a serious and mature crime theme in the story. The writing leans toward the more parodical side compared to its predecessors. Too many boring characters and forced stereotypes everywhere that it has become unbearable to watch, listen to, let alone to laugh at.

- Dumbed-down driving physics coming from IV. There's no more enjoyment or challenge in driving and nearly call cars feel and act the same on the road.

- The regression in NPC routines and dialogue variety coming from IV. It was logical that V would take what IV started to a higher state, but no innovation or development happened at that front and instead it regressed.

- The lack of interactive interiors that are marked on map (e.g. restaurants) and also random interiors that are fun to explore and add more depth to the world. IV's LC, despite being smaller than the whole map of V, had more things and happenings in the interiors.

- Disappointing map layout and design. Focused too much on re-creating SoCal, as per R*'s announcement statement, than creative and artistic layout that could've made it more interesting to explore. A single city bordered to the north by countryside and small stretches of wilderness, that lead to nowhere but back to the same city, feel unnatural and become boring quick.

When it launched, GTA IV. To this day I am not a fan of the story and the game in general just lacked a lot of the fun stuff from San Andreas. That being said, The Ballad of Gay Tony completely turned the game around for me and I'd now say it's probably my favourite GTA.

In hindsight, GTA V. When it come out I loved it, the map was huge, game full of little details, the missions a blast. Lots of fun. Six years later I now look at GTA V's story and just the general Hollywood/reality TV crap in the story and the world its self with a big fat ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The map its self I also have issues with, it's brilliant don't get me wrong but the super wide open streets of LA/LS combined with the low amount of AI doesn't make the world feel alive as much as it did in IV.

Manhunt 2. I was so hyped for this game just to be really underwhelmed by it.  Has some cool new features such as Environmental Kills and Gun Executions but the story makes no sense whatsoever, the graphics suck, soundtrack is weaker than the one featured in the prequel, Danny isn't likeable at all, Hunters' dialogue (which where so amazing in the first game even Trevor in GTAV quotes one: "Come out, come out, wherever you are!") are trash and that censorship filter is awful to look at

Finished it, but on the shelf now. I completed Manhunt (1) 4 or 5 times, and would love to play it again

@SonOfLiberty

i think i need to give some details.

Gameplay: when we talk about max payne’s gameplay, all that comes to people’s head is “combat”, but it shouldnt and let me explain. play max payne, then play max payne 3 and it feels like there is hardly any good gameplay, good combat doesn’t mean good gameplay and you’ll clearly understand what i mean if you play it after the first one as i said. level design is some weird forced cover based shooter even tho game isn’t known by its cover shooting. rockstar said “cover is there but you don’t have to use it”, reality: max takes cover himself after every single cutscene and there are at least 15 cutscenes in a single chapter.

Max Payne: he’s worse than cj and trevor i can tell you. only thing he does is “im drinking whiskey and im drunk blah blah...this place makes me wanna puke blah blah...i don’t like this people blah blah blah...”. it’s like that 15 years old teen girl who tries to impress her boyfriend. max has no reason to do all that for some rich guy he doesn’t like, and the whole concept of game feels more like “shooting guys” rather than a dark story. i mean imagine this, niko comes in gta online like “baby where are my ladies let’s drink get drunk let’s f*ck yo bitches”, yea i know, it would be the most messy thing ever.

Cutscenes: rockstar said “cinematic experience”, however all i remember is max opening doors and climbing ledders in cutscenes. you know how much i like them if they are as good as they are in gta IV, meaningful, with great dialouge, with great sense of humour. however max is nothing but a joker here, he comments about everything in the most stupid way possible. he’s be good friends with trevor i can say.

Story: ummm i don’t know where to start. max gets out of new jersey not to deal with the mafia, then he kills every person who is in the gangs nova esperanca, caracho peretho, UFE and more maybe. he’s trying to save those “rich bitches that i don’t like. yeah i don’t like them but in third game i’m an idiot so i’ll try to save them anyway because that’s the right thing to do”. i’ll never understand the max that keeps getting orders from those people who he doesn’t like very much. i’m mentioning one of those thing above again, if you’re powerful enough to take down every single soldier in brazil why did you get out of jersey? why?

Atmosphere: Max In a sunny setting? hmm? with all those lame jokes? with parties in four of the chapters?(yeah that’s right, at least in four chapters they make parties and we listen to max while he complains about how bad the life is). i’d like this if it were something proper but everything in it feels like those indian TV shows.

Combination of the things: remember i said “i like how in gta IV everything suits everything. from cutscenes to gameplay. from niko to dialouge.” max payne 3 has none of this, it’s weirder than the mission black project, nothing makes sense. example? yeah sure, i played it A LOT. the combat is one of the most fast paced you can ever see in gaming. now listen what happens in one of the chapters: max guns down people in slow motion, runs, dodges, kills three guys in a second, shoots rockets/grenades in the middle of air. then guess what, cutscene starts 😒. max gets into a room full of bad guys with heavy weapons and what he does is:drop the gun down and say “let the girls go, no one needs to die asshole!”....😒(before saying this and dropping his guns he was shooting three guys in the middle of air😑). the bad guy shoots the girl and max (the guy who got a deagle bullet to the head then nothing happened) does nothing😑. in ninety percent of the cutscenes same thing happens, NOTHING. max watches them get away with the girls instead of jumping and shooting them. this is what happens when you have that much of cutscenes instead of gameplay. rockstar couldn’t think of a proper gameplay in a linear game so it became something garbage with the most stupid story ever.

now i’ll quote you again. “don’t fix what ain’t broken”. and also quote walter, “you’re goddamn right”.

max payne 3 is what happens when you try to fix something that ain’t broken. no wonder this game didn’t sell well, in fact i’m glad it didn’t. rockstar maybe got away with their stupid gta V but not with this one.

To be fair, Max Payne 3 is often regarded as having the best third person shooting controls on other gaming websites.
