A SEQUEL TO JOKER IS NOW CONFIRMED BY THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER THAT IT IS NOW CURRENTLY IN-DEVELOPMENT WITH WB AND DC. EARLIER THIS OCTOBER, JOAQUIN PHOENIX STATED IN AN ROLLING STONE INTERVIEW WITH PETER TRAVERS THAT HE'D BE INTERESTED TO TAKE ON AS THE CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME ONCE AGAIN TO SEE WHERE HE IS HEADED AFTER THE EVENTS OF JOKER. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, DIRECTOR/WRITER TODD PHILLIPS AND SCOTT SILVER WILL REPRISE THEIR NARRATIVE CREDITS ONCE AGAIN IF THEY SEE SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING TO HELP SHAPE THINGS UP A BIT FOR ARTHUR FLECK ONCE MORE AFTER THE HISTORICAL R-RATED $1B BOX OFFICE WIN OF ALL-TIME. AND REPORTS SUGGEST THAT WE'LL POSSIBLY SEE A R-RATED DC STANDALONE ORIGIN FILM OF LEX LUTHOR IF DC FINDS A DIRECTOR LIKE TODD PHILLIPS OR SOMEONE WITH THE SAME CREATIVE TALENT AS HIM THAT'S WILLING TO TAKE ON THE PROJECT.

This is strictly my own opinion, but I don't think that a sequel to Joker should be necessary at all. It already won the Golden Lion at Venezia 76 and I want to see a different standalone R-rated DC origin story with a different character like The Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, or even Red Hood. Most people do like the idea, but one the other half, not so much. I think this film is amazing and it should be perfect as a standalone nonetheless. I just hope it doesn't suck like what Phillips did for The Hangover sequels as if the Joker was "The Hangover."

So what are your guys' opinion about this update?

I agree 100% it should’ve just been a stand-alone film. It’s just great as it is no need for a sequel. I also agree with you saying how it hopefully doesn’t turn into the Hangover sequels. That movie should’ve just been a one and done. Will it be cool to see a sequel? With Joaquin Phoenix? f*ck yeah! But I’ve seen movies where the sequels weren’t that great... However some did better than the first film (Terminator 2, Star Wars Empire Strikes Back,  and Friday the 13th pt 2 to name a few).

I'm curious to see where the story goes, honestly. On paper, there was really no reason for me to believe the first one would have been any good but I was pleasantly surprised.

So if they get all the same creatives involved from the first one and WB stays hands off and let them do their thing, I'm in.

There's also rumours now that they're trying to recreate Joker with other villain origin stories. I'm a little more skeptical of this. Movie studios always seem to learn the wrong lessons from their successes.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. It feels unwarranted but then again, WB is known for wanting to milk their successes. Also, I think the novelty factor will wear out with the second film and it won't work unless we get to see some known characters from the DCU (other than the Waynes).

At first I was l was skeptical. I think it's a cash-grab.

On second thought, it could be nice to see more of that world, following Joker as he performs bank heists. How, he started a movement but the movement becomes less "political" and more motivated by criminal greed and just anarchy. It would definitely be a different tone the first film. If the first film is about character building and character development, a second film would probably focus on the actions of and results of Joker, becoming Joker as we know him. And that film could be fun.

Yeah, I think a sequel is not necessary. But I guess they could make it work, just like they made this one work.

Though with it being more grounded in reality, and being clear to all now who/what the Joker is... Would be tough to see him just breaking out of the mental hospital and whatnot.

Who knows, maybe they can play the delusion/illusion card more.

Joker was interesting because it was something we'd not seen before - an exploration of how a maniacal villain like The Joker could come into being.

If you make a 'sequel', then you're really just making another film that has The Joker in it. And we had an epic, Oscar-winning one of those a little more than a decade ago, with a central performance from Heath Ledger that was tough to beat.

I certainly wouldn't put it past Hollywood to rinse and repeat so quickly.....but I would hope that the talented people involved could find something more original to do with their time......

A sequel ? ugh, please no....that movie ended perfectly...i do not need a sequel and i sure hope they do not get the idiotic idea to link it to the rest of DC movies...like really, let's not.

joker was awesome because of the political aspect of it, my biggest fear of a potential joker 2 is that they'll throw that whole aspect of the story out the window and just make it some black and white "bad guy does bad things because he's a bad person" type thing
