Volatollotalov
I agree that hype often exceeds the real thing when it arrives, just look at recent DLCs as an example of that. But if everyone genuinely believed that GTA6 is going to be disappointing and crap, then no one here would be talking about it - including you! Americana
I've just realised that 'Grand Theft Auto' section of this forum is basically 5 - 10 people talking to each other. Zello, Dock, ventogt and 2 others
Volatollotalov
There are 15 million forum posts on this site, that's f* insane. If each one takes an average of 10 seconds to read, it would take someone over four and a half years of constant browsing, sleeplessly, to read them all. Guest Billy Russo
Literally never been let down by a GTA game, even V. It was amazingly fun at Launch, I think VI will be much of the same. It's more GTA Online than V that annoyed me. Honestly, VI is the only thing that could entice me to buy another console when it eventually releases. It will be a while from now. I think I'll have a hard time sitting on the sidelines. Pink Pineapple
The hype and speculation are a big part of the fun. Patrizio, Lock n' Stock and Eternal Moonshine
HikikomoriYume
The hype for VI isn't as big as the hype for IV and V. If anything those two games being such disappointments has dwindled faith in the series for hardcore fans. Normals easily swindled by clever PR and marketing will eat it up regardless. Patrizio
@Billy - good point - at launch all the games are generally fantastic. I guess IV and then V lots some of the appeal as time went on. @Pink - you are right - the hype is major part of it. When GTA VI is announced, the hype will go into overdrive. I just guess at the moment, many are just bored of waiting. Its been longer than between IV and V and that felt like an age at the time. @Squeeze - It may continue to be one of the top selling games but to a lot of hardcore GTA gamers it felt a bit of a let down. I will be as hyped as any other when its announced, the longer wait the heavier the disappointment, I find. Lock n' Stock

Like I said, casuals are easily swayed by PR and marketing. Just because a game sells very well doesn't mean it's good, look at Skyrim which is one of the best selling games of all time and touted as "the greatest game of all time" yet it is obviously inferior to Morrowind and Oblivion. Neither my expectations or any hype has ever ruined a game for me. I am not saying that some anticipated games don't ever disappoint me. But I always take previews and trailers as just indications of what a game may be like. I judge a game by its own merits, not my overblown expectations. As a result, I was not disappointed in Vice City, San Andreas, LCS, VCS, and GTA V, even though I totally got swept away by the hype. When a game delivers, it delivers; when it doesn't, then it doesn't, and that's that. ventogt, Jakub1904, Eternal Moonshine and 1 other
Copcaller
Hype is a delicate balance too much hype can be a bad thing cause of unrealistic expectations but if there's no hype then no one gives a sh*t about your game. I'm excited cause rdr 2 was a good game but wary cause V was disappointing single player wise Edited November 22, 2019 by Copcaller Patrizio

Who gave you the authority to speak for everyone? I've been a fan of the series since 1998 and I never found GTA IV "disappointing". It took me a few years to warm up to GTA V, but in the end I did. It's not my favourite GTA, but it's still a pretty good game that I just didn't give the chance it deserved. GTA IV and GTA V might not to be to everyones' liking, but at the same time they have strong fanbases nonetheless. Not everyone is a nostalgia tool just because they like 3D era GTAs. Not really. GTA IV has surpassed its predecessors already when it comes to me. It was unique, but also quite close to the roots of GTA III, in case you want to refer to the "roots of the 3D era" (I might've been throwing this too much recently, but never mind ). I was indeed disappointed with GTA V on the other hand, though. I don't hate it, but it's not my cup of tea. Americana
Yes, Grand Theft Auto IV is a true Grand Theft Auto game, it shares many factors with Grand Theft Auto III. (And even Grand Theft Auto 1, when it comes to ground-to-earth locations and vehicles) Everything else is just an add-on. TheSantader25
Pre release hype is like a drug with no side effects so I'd take it. A game is what it is and hype really won't improve or discredit it for me after release. "Disappointment" regarding expectations on the other hand can happen because of hype though I really don't think it degrades the game itself that what it actually is.
