One of the founders of the basebuilding RTS sub-genre. Still all parts of Age of Empires are played regularly in online tournaments. Below is the release trailer: It seems to be set in the medieval ages, or at very least go through that era. However, if you had the collector's edition of Age of Empires III, you could see that IV would also include modern era (WWI/II). I personally think it'll be composed of several eras, similar to the original Age of Empires. I doubt it'll be focused on the medieval times again (as Age of Empires II covered that).
