Refined Binoculars - Anyone else use these?

Does anyone else use these for anything?

They’re part of the Collector Role, but I’ve found they were practically worthless scouting for collectibles.  I use them more in the Trader and Bounty Hunter roles - easier to scout the perfect animals at a distance, and easier to scan for BH targets in a wide area where you have multiple scouting trails and you can possibly spot their “fairy dust” marks from afar.

That’s it.  Other than that, and those uses are rare and frankly not really necessary (but maybe slightly more convenient), this might be the biggest waste of money in the game.

I use them to spot animals instead of using rolling block. Think I never spotted pixie dust with them.

Wait, what? Are they Binoculars with the Eagle Vision ability always activated?

They are very useful for pvp combined with a sniper.

i use them rarely for hunting, and also seeing where other players are in free roam pvp, i usually look for their horses

Alas, I detest clutter. And had I known Refined Binoculars were going to be a thing with the Frontier Pursuits update, I would have never bought the conventional binocs in the first place.

It's like the Lasso/Reinforced Lasso thing, right? You're not buying an upgrade to an item you already own-- you're buying a new, separate item and you'll end up having to always scroll past the old thing in order to use the new one.

Leftover Pizza

It's pretty useless for the role itself, but can come in handy rarely. It doesn't show anything EE doesn't, but EE is permanent when you use it, standing still, though.

The have limited uses....you can spot an egg in a tree with them that the nest is bugged out.  Pretty much the only thing I have found useful.

I think they are useful if you are trying to stealth bounties and on legendary bounties, the scopes on guns wont allow eagle eye...forgot about that.  Stealth in this game isnt really worth it though.

For the Collector role, it's basically useless. It can spot treasure chests (from maps) from range and bounty targets though, which is about their only use.

I also use them to scout known collectible locations from a distance when I'm traveling through an area.

Nope. A complete waste of money when you use the online map.

I had them almost all mapped out in my own papers, used the online map to fill in about 10-15 gaps (not including random spots).

But yes, they are pretty much worthless for the Collector Role.

Whenever I read 'Refined binoculars' I just imagine a pair with a monocle attached to one of the lenses.

For only the most distinguished hunter and collector

That would've been worth its money more so then this thing is.

I bought it hoping it would show all the yellow particles (read: all collectibles etc) from a greater distance, but it really only works for the dig sites, and the one time i found a dig site with it i was bscly in spitting distance of it, so im questioning how far away you can actually see these dig sites particles, next time i find one ima test. The one thing it does better is it 'selects' animals in a bigger area of your view cone, so you can actually read the info on a moving animal, but at the max zooming range it doesnt do this anymore for whatever reason.

Overall its a 'nice to have' (because indefinite eagle eye and it can zoom quite far) but you're not really missing out on anything not having one of these.

Edit: So i've tested, and the binoculars and standard eagle vision both show dig-sites at the same distance? if you're far enough away to not see them normally you wont see them with the binoculars either?? idk if this means the refined binoculars are total bs or if having them just makes your eagle eye different regardless of if you use them or not?

They show more than just dig sites, also I've noticed that they won't show far away yellow particle effects unless you zoom into the last level. A bit wonky but they work better than people give them credit for.
