Communication is literally KEY in scenarios like this, good to see that it’s happening; but it wouldn’t have hurt to manage expectations from the get-go.

Irrespective, great to see some accountability in action

Of course it's on Nvidia... Yesterday's driver already brought small improvements, wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the issues were caused by bad NVIDIA drivers on older CPU's (CPU overhead).

Think I've noticed a pattern:

NVIDIA + modern CPU = smooth gameplay (with smooth I mean no stuttering, just regular frame drops due to GPU power)

NVIDIA + older CPU = stuttering and freezing

AMD = smoother gameplay overall on all CPU's

I never had a problem but that's great! I hope they do even more communication in the future.

My game stutters terribly unless I cap the FPS. Hopefully they can fix this.

Aren't there still some issues with 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs? I read that most people had to update their BIOS to launch the game.

Yeah, me either, I even graphed my frametimes yesterday, there is not one stutter in my Saint Denis benchmark pass and I can play for hours without a hitch and being able to hit full 60 FPS in select areas. Seems like most issues are CPU-bound and not GPU bound. The game is just graphically demanding and people have to accept this even on 2080 Tis, but the stuttering and freezing seems 100% CPU-bound.

That could be on AMD themselves. Destiny 2 also didn't work before a chipset/BIOS update.

Fixed that for you 😄

maybe the 1080ti will match the 2080 like it should do now.

I wasn't expecting an apology to be honest. That's great of them.

Specially for those who like RDO, seems like they'll compensate for the trouble. Shamefully it seems that NVIDIA is at fault as well...

All I hope is that this doesn't happen again. This puts a lot of stress on us, who just want to play the game. On the devs, who may have to crunch, working against the clock to get those fixes ready... Putting other important development aside. And everyone else involved really.

I really wish this is one of the last times we get to see this mess of a launch.

Can't wait for the patch!

Except I have a non-Turing GPU without ANY stuttering. Literally. ~I can max out the GPU all the time and well it has frame drops but that's because I have a 1060. Actual freezing and skipping, none, zero.

This seems fully CPU related.

Great to see.  As someone who has had fantastic performance without any stutters or crashing, I'm hopeful I'll still see some benefits from this patch, even though that's unlikely.

I follow the PC tech market very closely and I have seen how the RDR2 benchmarks show everything below Turing performing lower that expected compared to Turing and where they would normally slot in with other game benchmarks, the one gpu that stood out like a sore thumb was the 1080ti, absolute beast of a card that equals the 2080 being beaten by a stock 5700 when the 5700 normally struggles to beat a 2060 in any other game.

you may not be seeing stuttering but you're not getting 100% if you're on a 1080ti.

Yeah, I am aware of the Destiny 2 issues, but I think it's hard to tell if solely AMD or the developer is to blame. Well, I am getting the game tomorrow and I have a R5 3600, I hope it's going to work after the BIOS update 😀

Ah, yes, performing less I can accept, but I meant the major stuttering and freezing issues that are happening. Those seem CPU-bound.

My 1060 reaches 100% at all times, and here's the benchmark graphed in the worst pass which is Saint Denis, and matches what I've been saying here, a steady 40-60 FPS. No sudden drops to like 30, 20 or 10 that might represent stuttering. Just normal variations.

zSTAtLk.png

Reminder, this is a GTX 1060. In most other places it's even smoother. And reminder those are 6000 data points so it's gonna look ugly. The game feels nice and smooth. Stuttering is what shows on GamersNexus' graphs with HUGE spikes.

EDIT: Larger version so the data points can spread better

With an R5 3600 it's recommended you update anyway so... Plenty of fixes and enhancements for us on Zen 2 still.

I'm on 980ti's and I'm also getting no stutters either, but I'm also on a 6c12t 5930k with 32gb ram, I think the main stuttering issue is on cpu's without hyperthreading or old 4 cores, there's people in here still thinking the 2600k is going to cut it along with 8gb in 2019 lmao

there is also the issue of the Rage engine struggling with it's own built in fps cap, same issue they had with GTA V, it hit's the limit and the frame rates tank and stutter.

Yep, that's it. :) Still, even if there might be a bottleneck in 4C/4T CPU's, it's not supposed to be freezing so we'll see if that is fixed.

Speaking of 980Ti's, did SLI improve for you in the latest drivers?

IMO Nvidia must apologize since Pascal performance compared to RX series is laughable. An RX 580 is outperforming a 1070 is a joke. -_-

Yeah, I don't see much where Rockstar could've f*cked up in this situation when there's a difference even between generations in cards that should be comparable. Like a Pascal vs a comparable Turing card, I can't even think of a way a developer could screw this up, other than the manufacturer of the cards/drivers. The graphics code is the same for both cards in a game (RTX excluded)...

Nice of them. I've been disappointed with the performance I'm getting on my system, but that's because I'm a stubborn idiot who refuses to step down from High settings on a 980. I've since talked myself into going down to Medium on stuff like reflections and volumetrics, and have had success in reclaiming some frames. This is nothing an eventual GPU upgrade won't solve, though. 5 years is a good run for any card, at constant Ultra/High settings at various framerates, no less.

I have to say the game doesn't feel as unstable as I initially thought. The crashes in menus seem to have gone away, and the only things left that are annoying would be the mouse behaving strangely in menus, and weird performance drops below 30 when I leave the game running for longer than 7 hours (lmao).

Hoping the reputation of RDR2's PC version can be salvaged. It's not that bad. It's got issues, but I hope it gets the love it deserves once those are finally stomped out.

In all honesty I haven't been bothering with SLI since I tested it originally, there was a distinct drop in overall GPU usage from 98% to around 70-80 and gameplay remained fairly mooth, but I was using the GTAV SLI/Shader bits which were built for DX10/11 and I was using Vulkan, the end result was shader glitches all over the place with flickering in alll the alpha tex's, there was one point where I was walking around in the snow and the bushes were lit up like Xmas tree's.

hopefully they support SLI/Multi-gpu soon, my only worrry is that Ngreedia will do what they have done with Outer Worlds and make SLI "Turing Only"

side note, the new Star Wars game supports SLI out of the box with new driver from the 12th.

check the 2 videos of hardware unboxed...so you can see the settings you can lower and the diference ... ( barely any diference in many cases)   to improve your fps.

I really hope this isn't the last Red Dead we see on PC. That would suck TBH.

I asked because apparently with yesterday's driver, SLI/multiGPU started working with Vulkan in RDR2. Not sure how well which is why I asked. :p

Oooooh, thx for that tidbit, I just grabbed the new drivers and been reading the release notes, which make no mention of it, time to experiment ................ bbs  😄
