xtracker85
It's the cloud sync!!! If the game tries to autosave and your internet dies or the game fails to connect to the Rockstar servers, it will kick you out of the game and give you the "unexpectedly exit" message. I've tested this numerous times and can confirm this is the cause. Even disabling cloud save in the settings will still cause the game to crash if your internet dies. The only workaround it seems is to run the game in "offline mode". If anyone can confirm this on their end as well and post the results here, it would be much appreciated. *UPDATE: Upon further testing, it seems that the game will always crash if your internet dies, regardless on whether it's saving or not. *sigh*. *UPDATE 2: The "offline mode" workaround doesn't seem to work anymore. It requires me to be online and signed in to play Story mode. *UPDATE 3: Found a fix to those having trouble running the game in offline mode. You need to have BOTH the "Remember me" and "Auto log in" boxes ticked to successfully launch the game offline. ballstorture
Anyway I think the launcher itself is the main reason behind most of these crashes. GN 92

Yeah, you're right. I remember a similar thing happening with GTA 5 as well, and it was confirmed a bug. I've reported this to Rockstar and hope they can get this sorted out soon. My gta v still get randomly crash since I got this lovely launcher lol,rdr2 just crashed for the first time today.Gta used to be fine when I just make steam in offline mode to play story mode, but since they opened rdr2 pre-purchase it somehow forces me to play v with launcher stay online or the game won't available to play.I used to think it is the launcher has some problems with some stuffs of the steam version's gta v(I'm not very sure whether crashes happens to people with RGL version or not cuz I only found many people talking about the same thing on steam discussions page)Now with the rdr2 crash thing I finally sure not only this thing may have problems with steam,it also have probelms in itself. What a good thing! BuckBok
Noticed the following: When running in story mode - minimal internet usage. Seems that after a while R* launcher then disconnects. I streamed some music on very low res(low bandwidth) in the background(obviously with sound off) and have not had a crash in 3 hours. Might have been pure luck, but maybe worth a shot? xtracker85
Wow, the launcher now doesn't even let me play the game in offline mode anymore. Seems like you need a constant internet connection to play this game even in story mode. WTF Rockstar!!!??? ballstorture
pariah87
I used the turn off fullscreen optimization trick from the other thread and it works perfect for me now. Even just alt tabbing out would crash my game everytime, now it doesnt.
