Eddie1506 Posted November 9, 2019 Share Posted November 9, 2019 Hi. I'm just starting with RDO on PC and I have troubles using the free horse I got from one of the starter missions. I can't get it out of the stables. From what I read online, I need a saddle, but I don't have any, and most of those are too expensive for me now (I'm level 6 ATM). Is there a trick to get a free saddle (or remove the saddle from Scrawny Nag), so I can use the horse, or do I have to wait to gather some money to buy a saddle? What's funny is, the horse, together with a saddle appeared when I started the first of three sheriff help missions. Once the mission was complete, I was back to Scrawny Nag. ghostsoap01 Posted November 9, 2019 Share Posted November 9, 2019 Are you talking about the starting mission where you had to steal horses for the two brothers? If so, you should have bought a saddle as part of the mission requirement. I'd contact R* support to have them fix it for you. I had the issue at one point, but the opposite: in free roam I had my horse but any missions would give me Scrawny Nag for the duration of the mission. In my case it was fixed in a patch before I could contact R* support, so that might happen for you as well if you wait instead of talking to R* directly. Nugsy Posted November 9, 2019 Share Posted November 9, 2019 Perhaps your horse has been killed? That would result in the scrawny nag being summoned in free roam. To check, left D-pad for your menu, go to stables > owned horses. You'll see there if it needs reviving. If so, you'll want to get horse insurance when you can afford it. The Stock Kneller Mother Hubbard saddle is somewhere around $40, throw on the cheapest stirrups, which are something like $20 and you'll be able to get your horse out of the stable. If it still appear in stable that means it is alive, so you should have the option to equip a saddle on it. You cant likely have no saddle. That's mandatory to finish the intro. Dont know which button it is on xbox or pc but Playstation it is triangle to equip a saddle so go to tack and services and do that. It can be easy to miss. When I go to Tack and services and try to equip a saddle, there's no saddle in sight. All I can do i purchase a new one. This video shows you all the saddles that were available at launch, which are the cheaper ones. They start going through saddles at around 12:55. Sounds like a bad glitch to me the more you describe it. But seeing as so much went wrong on PC release it's not impossible you got hit with a bug. But, knowing how useless support can be, if I was OP, I'd bite the bullet on a cheap <$100 saddle and stirrups just so I didn't have to use the scrawny nag. If they stick with the game, in a few months time they'll probably have discarded the starter horse and cheap saddle for something they like and the <$100 hit will seem like chump change. Yeah, most definetly, allthough he should still give the support solution a try. Maybe he'll get a small refund after all. Can't ever say no to that. I found a free saddle in the game and successfully taken the horse out of the stables. It was my fault after all The main issue was that free saddles are only in some of the colors, which are at the end of the list and are hard to find. I browsed through the list, and every saddle had a price. First several types of saddles were like $500, and once you get to cheaper saddles, you do have free options, but only in some colors and you'd have to scroll all the way to the end of the colors list to get to them.
