SEASONS IN GTA ONLINE

Christmas in GTA Online is only a month away and that usually means one thing; snow. This got me thinking about incoorporating actual seasons into GTA Online (or perhaps the next rendition of it). The perpose of it would be to make the game more dynamic than its current state. Just like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, this would incoorporate temperatures which would ultimately affect the player and several other things such as vehicles and possibly weapons (freezing in winter perhaps?).

🌷SPRING🌷

The Spring season would feature more vibrant colors, representing the sprout of new plants, flowers, trees regaining color, etc. Generally, Spring would not affect the player and vehicles; hnowever if I were to go into detail with temperatures, early mornings and late at night could maybe cause some affect.

☀️SUMMER☀️

The Summer season would feature hot weather and thunderstorms. Perhaps affecting older vehicles with over-heating or the player dehydrating. Of course, this would feature dried up vegetation in areas and extreme temperatures in ther Grand Senora Desert (or wherever in the next rendition of GTA Online).

🍂AUTUMN (FALL)🍂

The Autumn (or Fall) season would feature vibrant reds, oranges and yellows throughout the environment. Again, I can't really think of much on how this could affect the player other than temperatures in the morning and at night.

❄️WINTER❄️

Winter would be the most unique season with the most applicable factors ranging from cold temperatures (obviously), loss of traction, slowing down player movement, ice and weapons freezing rendering them useless useless (defrosted? LOL).

In general, this idea wouldn't impact the game severely and it would also be a great opportunity for in-game photographers and film makers to take advantage of seasons.

Below is an image of 4 combined images I made as an artistic demonstration on what seasons could possibly look like.

I have added a quick poll to get an idea how well seasons would work with the community.

Thanks for reading!

I think the upcoming Christmas season would be of higher spirit if the snow started falling sooner and stayed longer.

Because I feel that seemingly short time frame from Christmas Eve to New Year's is not enough to fully enjoy the limited time change in scenery and activities along with it.

A great idea. Would love if they at least would have snow all December. Or certain lobbies with that as optional.

It would be a welcome addition in the next rendition. Some players already dress their characters to match the weather in their real life weather, might as well make the game match up.

I'm guessing they would cater to the seasons of the USA?

I'd love this aspect to fully grow in future too. Like above, a couple of days of snow during peak family time is a pain in the arse and would be great just to see that extended.

Definite yes from me. :)

I like it but I'd like there to be more little things that happen during each season. Like in the Winter time when it snows, I want the snow to be deeper than usual at times. Deep enough to task players into using their vehicles with the plows on them to clear paths for extra cash. Could put a GTA spin on it by having hidden items under said piles of snow that the players in free mode could kill each other over while in search.

In the Summer time I'd like the Heat to get so bad that it could cause players to faint in the middle of a mission if they're not packing enough bottles of water. candy etc. Stronger storms that come with high winds strong enough to push your car. knock players off their feet, etc. It would certainly make the experience of every mission different from doing them in the previous season.

Absolutely. Seeing leaves drop from trees over Autumn and the like too. Just good little characteristics to split the seasons.

I'd love to be Mr Plow. 🤣

It'd make the 'living, breathing world' a step closer to being realised, that's for sure. Plus the potential for photo opportunities and visual variety could increase with this as a feature.

I think it'd be cool.

Then a bit warmer

Then hot

Then cool again

:pp

I voted "not sure" because I haven't experienced seasons before, but it could be really cool. One thing to consider is racing lobbies, and if there were three months of winter and ice, this could affect regular racers quite a lot, so there would definitely need to be an adjustable 'season' toggle in lobby-based events so that the host can turn effects on and off. Also remember that GTA online is based on a digital rendition of modern day Los Angeles and the weather is usually hot and sunny over there, and the only reason we get snow at times is a way of commemorating international Christmas.

I'm still not sure, but if Rockstar do ever expand the map, seasons and weather, I would love to see different types of wild and domestic animals depending on the environment, as well as NPCs with weather-related clothing.

Im down for any simulation feature that might be added. After seeing RDR2, im wondering how GTA series could look if they were more realistic like carrying limited amount of weapons etc. Not a fan of driving a tank and shooting miniguns, don't care that the franchise is famous for mayhem.

I used to play DayZ (zombie survival game) and there was a winter map which changed gameplay all around. You had to avoid snowy areas and staying at the same place for a long time if you didn't had warm clothing on. So would really like to see same in GTA series. But im not sure about weapons freezing. WW2 guns used to freeze in a mean cold, i doubt that we'll be facing -40°C in GTA unless it's Canada. Plus modern weapons are getting tested in hot and cold conditions before getting mass manufactured.

To add more. Not only give us snow in the winter but also sheets of Ice on the sidewalks, roads, etc. Making missions even more challenging at times because we'd have to be careful to avoid the enemies gun fire as well as losing health after slipping and falling on the Ice.

I'd like to see chunks of Hail fall. Damaging cars, player health. Falling on peds for funny comedy animations. etc.

Not a bad idea--along with Halloween's eerie sky and frequent thunder/lightning, etc. would be quite welcome. More visible heat effects from asphalt/tarmac in the summer, and perhaps grass catching on fire more easily as well.

I'm kind of surprised that when it rains in-game, there's no water effect(s) on car windshields.

Of course, with no working windshield wipers on any vehicles, doesn't make much sense--but occasional drops here and there would make it a bit more immersive.

Since the next game location should be Vice City/Florida then I want a variation on this.

Periodic tropical storms and hurricanes. With heavy rain, high winds, storm surges, persistent flooding, blowing debris, flipped over vehicles and rough seas.

And since I came close to a tornado last month; damaging tornadoes and water spots.

With all of the tv/radio alerts and warnings, storm sirens and racing around emergency and utility vehicles. Power outages too, along with downed trees and blocked streets and highways. go nuts.

you could have missions related to it. high water rescues, rooftop rescues, etc.

Or just provide different maps with different permanent seasons. Imagine being able to use the airport to go to North Yankton. That would be nice..

In GTA VI, maybe.

I could go for seasons.  Good thread.  Would make the city seem more alive.  IMO the only seasons that make sense to affect the players and vehicles tho are WINTER and SUMMER.  SPRING and FALL seem more like mediums between those two seasons with SPRING being the transition from cold to hot and FALL being the transition from hot to cold.  WINTER would slow down player movement and if not dressed properly would slow down even more along with vehicles stalling,  etc.  SUMMER players need to dress light and remain hydrated or suffer random blackouts and vehicles would overheat after a certain amount of continuous use.

Not just weather the city's vibe needs to change with the seasons as well.  Take SUMMER for example,  I want to see specific events like bikini contests or jet/boat competitions at the beach,  icecream trucks driving around,  etc.  I'd also, like to see the contacts have specific missions that only are available during specific seasons.

NPCs also need to dress according to the seasons and even be doing things in the city that fit the season like wearing thick coats,  scarves,  etc in WINTER,  workers snowplowing,  NPCs Christmas caroling,  etc.

R* already gives us the option to toggle weather in races bud.

This is something that should be implemented if seasons become a thing.

I already know that not many racers like the snow, so being able to toggle it on and off would come in handy for the racing community.

Snow races in muscle cars would be a real hoot. Fränken Strange's only. 😁😁

That'd soon kill catch up. Far too many don't know where the breaks are anyway, let alone manage a slippery surface like that. 🤣

@REXX you did it again. Great thread.

Adding to the seasonal effects beyond cosmetics, it would be fun for our characters to be affected. Being out in Senora desert in Summer would cause dehydration. Being up in Chilliad during winter would cause our characters to freeze over.

lol  1st of all,  seasons is basically weather so why do we need a "seasons" toggle when we already have a "weather" toggle?  2nd,  you missed my point smarty.  Your argument was that season weather such as snow and ice would effect races negatively if we don't have an option to toggle it off.  Well I simply reminded you that R* already has a toggle in races for weather so we aren't forced to race under the current freemode weather.  What makes you think R* wont let us turn snow and ice off like we already can the rain?
