Cannot catch th eguy running away at the very beginning of the game

What am I doing wrong. It seems like I have to keep pushing the run button up and down or do I just hold it down. Even while riding my horse I really could not get the horse to run. It would run a few steps and then slow down again. Should I do it with keyboard and mouse instead of a controller.

I managed to run a lot easier with the keyboard . Must be an issue with my controller. However how do you actually tackle the guy to stop him.

Never mind. The intention is not to capture him. But to shoot him before he gets away. I don't have to actually catch him.
