Guest Billy Russo
After hearing about the very sad death of John Witherspoon, it got me watching some old scenes from Friday to remember just how funny of a guy he was. Anybody else on the site who absolutely loves these films, and has very fond memories of watching it? The first released in 1995, so I started watching the movies from a young age in the early 2000's, and I still think those are the hardest laughs I've ever got from films. I think the first movie especially is probably one of the best comedies ever made. So many memorable lines, absolutely contagious chemistry from Tucker & Cube, so many talented and funny actors working together. The sequels aren't as good, but still have their moments. I really think it's one of the most defining movies of Comedy. We were meant to get a fourth film but it never came to fruition, which is a shame really. I feel like every scene in this movie is so memorable and funny, it's really just a totally natural film through and through. Everybody in the cast comes across like they're having fun and it makes for such a great viewing experience. There's just something special about a film that can make you laugh despite knowing every line, every scene and how every character acts. I think it's what separates a good film from a classic. Some movies are only good once, movies like this are timeless and will be enjoyed by me forever. As I'm typing this, I just laughed my ass off at that kitchen scene, because it brought back so many nostalgic memories and reminded me how talented John Witherspoon was. If there's anybody who by chance hasn't heard of these films, I'd really recommend as it still holds up.
Lonely-Martin
I love these movies. The first is a real classic and though the sequels do miss Smokey's flair, the rest of the main cast really seemed to be enjoying themselves. I love the scenes in Friday After Next with John Witherspoon and his on screen brother and mother when they get all hyped up about their BBQ sauce. 'Tastes so good, makes you wanna slap yo' mama!' *smack* He left his mum with a proper black eye, lol. Classic slapstick fun. He was equally as eccentric in The Fresh Prince in one episode too. Only watched that recently and that show still is a winner too. (Can't link the scene, lol. Sorry). The scene in the music store especially. Friday After Next is decent, but it definitely felt as though they mostly ran out of ideas. I have no problem rewatching any of them, however. Terry Crews is pretty funny in the third one.
Lonely-Martin
@Billy Russo I loved Next Friday with Pinky raging at Craig there too. And the part where the chap bursts in saying 'I can't get jiggy with this sh*t' while holding what looks like a half eaten CD is just hilarious. To be fair, there's not many Ice Cube films I'm not keen on, lol. And there's been plenty of stars get a chance to shine in one of his flicks. They all seem to get on so well, especially here and Barbershop. D418

I'm thinking of picking it up on Blu Ray. I have the original DVD, but it's worth re-buying again. Not sure if the one I own is the Director's Cut either, I think it's the theatrical. But the Blu-Ray is.
