Downgrades as of Patch 1.32 (Reports)

The latest update, 1.32, has been out for months but just now people have been finding out that since this patch the Castor's Ridge random event doesn't progress to the 3rd encounter anymore (the one where you help with the farmstead's construction by bringing lumber or giving money). And so now we can't ever see the farmstead get completed in new playthroughs!

They're not gonna stop removing content from this game post-release, are they? Rockstar should just stop updating Red Dead Redemption 2 at this point, it's sad and unacceptable how they ruined the story mode with the patches.

I don't know if this was pointed out before, and also it's completely unrelated to this patch in particular, but still...

As of patch 1.14 or so on PS4, Dead Eye has also seen a major downgrade, as in, when you target enemies, the auto shooting that engages afterwards broke.

Before, all shots used to be fast, while now, the firing gets significantly "delayed" over time. Weapon does not seem to matter, all get this delay over the time.

Also, if I can recall, this delay is present when using Dead Eye ANYWAY, not just for the target shooting, but for the free shooting as well...

Like, the more you shoot, the more delayed firing gets if you guys get me.

Don't know if anyone else ever noticed this, but I did and for me it's quite major, and I thought I should point it out.

I'm not sure what causes that, but if I had to guess, around that time, they also upped the fire rate for weapons overall (or the reload speed actually) in Red Dead Online iirc, maybe that's what broke it in singleplayer...

Also If I'm not mistaken this was always an issue when shooting in Dead Eye from cover... hmmm...

It's not just PS4. I tested it and it's also the case on PC, so we can safely assume it's the same on Xbox One.

And no, it has not been pointed out before you mentioned it, and I didn't know it either but I did somewhat notice it because when playing on the latest patches I was having more trouble completing the Gold Medal objective in "Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?" where you have to not take damage after stopping the train: because of the faster Dead Eye auto-shooting in 1.00, that allowed me to be less at risk of getting damaged by enemies that were targeting me. But in the newer patches I could not understand why a lot of times the enemies managed to hit me while I was auto-shooting with Dead Eye despite the fact that I targetted them way ahead of time.

Honestly, I can't believe that people used to make campaigns telling Rockstar to focus on that garbage Red Dead Online and claimed that Rockstar didn't care about it when they were literally breaking Red Dead Redemption 2's story mode in favor of Red Dead Online.

Ah lol yeah, forgot to mention, it happens on all platforms, I've played all versions and all have this bug fyi.

Yeah, another reason why they should make the Online components of their games completely standalone from the base game since the beginning, especially since they aren't willing to fix the issues they introduce with them updates...

Someone already reported this a while back, but I still wanna mention this because it really bothers me: the game's story missions are programmed so that Chance Encounters don't appear near them and "break the immersion", and clearly when they added the new content from the PC release they forgot to program "We Loved Once and True - III" so that one of the encounters with the herbalist William doesn't appear while said mission is available and as a result he can spawn right next to the mission's starting point and make everything awkard with WIlliam looking like he is part of the Cheloniain cult and him and Arthur having a conversation that gets drowned out by the loud-mouth freaks in the background.

I think it would've been fine, but how come almost 5 years later Rockstar, a billion-dollar company, did not bother to fix this in an update? It would be one of the easiest things to fix, and after all, don't they care about "immersion" like their fanboys claim?

Jesus...

I don't know if that's how things work, but would it be an idea if someone were to make an .asi script which blacklists all update .rpfs from loading? I'm guessing that could fix everything, though I don't think it's really ideal..

Some more things I noticed while playing on PC over the past few months:

- The Moon may sometimes freak out: sometime in the morning, it will literally race across the sky and then stop, continuing it's slow movement, iirc. This issue is also present in GTAV, again iirc;

- Latest update indeed broke system latency when switching from fullscreen to borderless windowed or windowed. I think it's kind of random but if it happens once, it'll keep happening until you restart? API doesn't matter;

- The HDR mode (which is exclusive to DX12, thanks Rockstar), still seems washed out. Although it might vary a lot that's for sure... still looks wrong though;

- Some UI textures don't scale well with HDR either. They look very full of green or red artifacts. Add to that the very prominent color banding the game already has and there's your 60 bucks experience lmao;

- Some UI elements may not scale well at high resolutions, elements such as the loading spinner and the ingame mouse pointer. Really Rockstar? None of your games (besides L.A. Noire which isn't even on RAGE) had that;

- The classic screen space effect issues again. Only thing that really bothers me are the water reflections which cut out way too far from the screen edges, but I guess it can't be helped at all;

- Sometimes, the world may turn black or blue for a split second, can't recall if it happened before but it happened as I rushed through the first chapter again on the latest patch. Place where it happened: Who the hell is Cornwall?, as soon as you get out of the snow. It's probably just random though;

I'll probably update this with more stuff later, ran out of fuel for now :kekw:

Couldn't find a better place to report those either. But I guess here'll do... Sorry if all or most of these have been reported on here already, but this just confirms them lol

Note that I'm fairly certain most of the issues I reported for now happen on consoles too, which is hilarious to say the least tbh

That's a limitation of screen spaced effects, especially noticeable with reflections. Every game with screen based stuff has the exact same issue.

Nothing that can be done about it.

The long term solution is raytraced reflections, but they are expensive to run and something that wasn't viable when RDR2 launched.

Not true, it works in Vulkan too. HDR only works in full screen in RDR2, which is commonish for games around that time on PC.

HDR in RDR2 is indeed off though, it looks slightly washed out but also you can't set the minimum black level to zero, which is ??????????? as perfect blacks are a key part of HDR.

I will say that Nvidia's RTX HDR will be a much, much better alternative to native HDR in RDR2 (if you've got the headroom for it). Though, It's very hit and miss for me when it wants to work within certain games on Steam for me. For some reason i'll need to alt+enter a few times for it to actually trigger the filters to work.

Haven't noticed much of a performance loss on my rig when using it either, maybe like 1-2 frames.

There's also autoHDR, of course, which'll be less on the performance side, but from what I've tried of it, it can cause blacks to raise and look a little grey.

Yeah, unfortunately...

Well, for me the "true HDR mode" only engages in DX12, otherwise on Vulkan, Windows 11 engages it's Auto HDR instead... The options for HDR in the menu won't appear at all, no matter what I do.

Although at this point I may just stick to the Auto HDR Windows does, since the native mode is a tad too broken for my tastes:

xB8TvK5.jpeg

If you enter this submenu once, this happens, but if you cancel and go back in, it fixes itself. Happens once per game session.

iirc if you try to change and then save the settings in this broken state, the help text on the bottom gets completely f-ed up. Beyond ridiculous.

LgMNsWW.png

This one came out of nowhere on the other hand. Usually you see it normally, but with those purple pixels being green, which is still distracting.

None of these issues happen with the Auto HDR done by Windows, at the same time managing to look close or even better than the native one, so I'll ditch this subpar native mode I guess.

I tested it before I made that post and had no issues with HDR on Vulkan from a technical PoV. The only issues were RDR2's long standing HDR issues, the washing out.

So it sounds like it might be some strange problem on your end to me, but HDR can be finnicky at times especially in older games so who knows.

If you want alternatives to native HDR that's not AutoHDR or RTX HDR take a look at Special K which has really nice HDR tools, and there's also some HDR filters for ReShade as well.

If you've not done it already, use https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9N7F2SM5D1LR to create a HDR profile for your display, it allows you to set the correct black levels. It doesn't fix issues for everyone, but it has worked to improve AutoHDR in particular for many people.

You probably have, but try disabling autoHDR in Windows? If you've got GameBar enabled, then win+alt+B before loading the game up to enable HDR, which works flawlessly for me w/ Vuklan as well.

But if it's always consistent like that, then I'd stick w/ autoHDR or any other alternatives mentioned.

Yeah, I've got two calibrated profiles setup, one for TB400 and one for Peak1000. I'll be giving Special K a whirl tonight anyways.

Yeah, no, a calibrated Auto HDR is definitely the goat for me now, played with the SDR content brightness as well, made 3 color profiles, one with 0 saturation, one at 50 and one at 100 and I managed to find a sweet spot for everything. 0 content brightness and 0 saturation looks quite natural. This is nice.

So, regarding issues which happens in all versions (consoles and PC), which ones are a thing nowadays after Patch 1.32? Or the ones which still are thing, like the women at MacFarlane's Ranch not responding to John and such.

Just leaving an update here in case it helps anyone else, I ended up solving this problem by rolling back to v1.20 of the game using this method:

Big thanks to users @Darealbandicoot and @GroveStGTAV on here who I've seen mentioning this method earlier in this topic along with extra, necessary info! I'm very glad this was possible.

Hey all, looking to update the game to the latest patch on my PS4 to check a couple of things but I may want to rollback to v1.20 again afterwards. Before I update the game, does anyone here know if the method above still works today? Has anyone succesfully rolled back to a previous patch (apart from v1.00) on PS4 recently? Thanks!

Edit: I tested it out myself and can confirm that specific video tutorial no longer works. At least one of the download links is broken, for starters. The following method does work: https://forum.psnprofiles.com/topic/159709-toolrewindps4-easily-downgrade-ps4-games-to-any-older-version/

Figured I'd leave this here in case it's of use to anyone else. It's an excellent method, super easy and quick!

The depressing issues that I am aware of are as follows.

・When attempting the Finger Fillet challenge: Unnecessary 'Message' text appears above the timer.
・When carrying a corn sack, the 3D model of the sack behaves incorrectly.
・Story mission 'Fleeting Joy,' subtitles are missing during the intro cutscene (from Bill joining up until the Pinkertons arrive for the attack).
・The female character's voice is missing at MacFarlane's Ranch.
・Map: The position of the 'Wanted Dead or Alive' label is misaligned at Fort Wallace and Sisika Penitentiary.
・The stranger mission 'Fundraiser' does not respawn.(You must not be wanted in Saint Denis before donating to her.)
・Story mission 'Mrs. Sadie Adler, Widow II,' unnecessary enemies and a Browning gun appear during replay.
・Mission replay: Sadie's speaker name in the subtitles is displayed as 'Stranger.'
・Mission replay: Unnecessary log notifications appear when restarting from a checkpoint.
・After the epilogue: The texture of the streetcars in Saint Denis is incorrectly applied, displaying 'Cornwall' instead of 'Pacific Union.'
・The 'Dreamcatcher' notification does not disappear even after completion.
・After completing 'Smoking and Other Hobbies' picking up a Cigarette Card reactivates the mission.
・If you go to sleep immediately after cooking meat at the camp, the knife floats in midair.
・The steamboat on the Lannahechee River sinks when zoomed in with binoculars.
・In the save slot screen, the mission image for 'To the Ends of the Earth' is missing.
・Tomahawk can be purchased from the Trapper early in the game, but it is not added to the inventory.
・In multi-byte language settings, labels are missing on the index page of the compendium.

It seems that Rockstar has no intention of fixing these issues, so I have started developing a mod to address them. Using LML and ScriptHook, I should be able to resolve most of them.🤣

Did this mod ever release? We need a FusionFix type of mod for RDR2.
