Barometer
1) Is it playable if you disable the hud, especially the map ? I've heard that npcs sometimes talk to you which road to follow etc. 2) Can you disable bullet trails in combat ? 3) Does first person feels less awkward than GTA V ? I remember your character being unable to walk if not modded and he was slighty turned to the right along with low FOV. 4) Is it possible to fight at least in a small encounter in a non lethal way ? Example like shoot the weapon, then knock him/her out or tackle and make them give up. Will that give honor ? I've seen gameplay and know the story in general just wanted to clarify some aspects of gameplay ! By the way i would love, since we all know Arthur wants to redeem himself, a side like story where he serves as a lawman. Keeping people safe, capture criminals etc. Bill Hickok style! roe
It's still not really 100% playable without the mini map, although they've made it so you can hide it and just bring it up temporarily with a button press which is great. There's also just a compass version that's small and only shows you the general direction of stuff and that's pretty decent too. Obsi
Yes you can knock people out - you can punch them unarmed but if you press the melee button instead of shooting you'll hit them with the butt of the weapon..... although sometimes knocking them out can kill them. You can tackle people to the ground to punch them or hogtie them. You don't get an honour decrease if you kill people the game considers an enemy though (at least most of the time), so if you're in a fight, it doesn't really matter if you kill people. It's also really easy to regain honour again if it does slip. You'll likely need the minimap, at least at first while you learn the layout of the land. Some roads are fairly straight so if you know where you're going you can get there easily without a map. Some places the paths are more complicated and you might get lost. The NPCs don't really give directions. Some of the story dialogue ones will say to turn right/left etc. but other ones will just say "we're getting close now" type thing, which isn't helpful. First person feels too weird to me to be able to play that way, and I haven't played GTA V so I can't answer that. roe

Like previous people have said it's not gonna be an easy ride if it's your first time playing, since the directions given can still be hard if it's your first time on the land, but if you wanna nothing stopping you, you can always turn it back on. 2. You can't disable the trails in my experience, I took quite a longtime just looking through the settings getting things configured for console. But hey this is PC after all, might possibly get a mod for this. 3. Unfortunately for console FP felt just as awkward, maybe even more so compared to GTA V since the annoying dead zone for the camera look was so prominent compared to GTA, maybe it'll be better for PC since there will be no dead zone. 4. And like Obsi said there's ways to kill people non-lethaly like knocking them out, but if you run into a small encounter and someone starts shooting you chances are they should be killed and you won't lose honour, same as if you're in a fistfight and you knock them out, you will only lose honour if you pull out a knife/gun in a fistfight and kill them, or if you just kill innocent people randomly. And for that suggestion I just wanna say you'll have to wait and see, maybe something like that does happen I hope you enjoy your first run of the game! roe and Barometer
Barometer
Awesome!! Yes, some mods when it comes to this would be fine, just to enhance the experience! Thank you, i appreciate it. Mored
The Algerian
I've played the game without HUD from the first second I started playing it, it's actually pretty playable as long as you have a decent sense of direction. You've got the sun to tell you where's East in the morning, South at noon, and west in the afternoon, and at night you got the north star. Hell, I think it's a LOT more enjoyable without the HUD, and I think people would complain a lot less about travelling being "boring" if they weren't constantly in full GPS mode. And when there's a problem, you can always press down on the D-pad to display the mini map for 5 seconds, or just straight up open the whole map. Barometer
Alright, hope i don't end up in Canada lol ! These games that give you this chance are not really appreciated. Hope they do something similar with future titles where you have to read signs, listen, pay attention etc to find your way.

And I forgot to mention you'll see a lot of signs telling you which town or ranch is in what direction, too. Barometer

For traveling around exploring or getting to another town yeah it's not essential, but if you're escorting an NPC they usually just give a town name or something as where they are going, so if you didn't at least check the map to see where exactly you're taking them, you may have trouble getting there. I guess it also depends on what sort of immersion you want. Do you want a minimap you can either have onscreen all the time and just check it when you need to, or even hide it and just call it up for a second to check...... or do you want to have to stop and actually open up the proper map to see where you're going. I personally find the minimap on screen isn't something I'm actively looking at, but can flick my attention to when needed, which is more immersive than opening the main map. The other thing is that without the minimap up, you won't see the markers for stranger encounters - There are a LOT of NPCs who have interesting encounters that you'll only know about if you see the blip on the minimap to show you someone is there. So without that up you're potentially missing out on a lot of those.

Thing is, without the mini map, you're actually using your ears and eyes more. The mini map didn't spot them for me, I did.
Obsi
Really? you found all 110 of them by just looking/listening? Well if you did, then good for you -- but others might not be so lucky or realise there's a difference between a random NPC and one of those - and would miss out. Spoiler You got the kid skipping stones and all those kinds of ones that don't even always give you anything, some just dialogue to listen to? Hide contents You got the kid skipping stones and all those kinds of ones that don't even always give you anything, some just dialogue to listen to? Got them all. You can all hear or see them just fine without the mini map. Then again, I'm not exactly the kind of guy who just galops everywhere full speed. It's much easier to see and hear them when the mini map's not there to put you in auto-pilot mode. Edited November 5, 2019 by The Algerian
