Gang Wars vs Drug Wars

  1. 1. Which side mission do you prefer

Recommended Posts

Which side activity do you prefer? I personally prefer Drug Wars, it's a lot more varied, gets challenging the more you do, pays well, and less buggy/random.

I don't like Gang Wars that much due to the fact I had to be driving a motorcycle. If I didin't have one, I'd have to call a buddie of mine so I could drive a bike and start the mission. On the other hand, I could do Drug Wars whenever I want. And it has a lot of good rewards as a good amount of special vehicles.

gang wars of course. feels better due to more quality characters such as johnny or terry. drug wars are good as a side activity but i don’t like the stupid dialouge and luis helping them out doesn’t make much sense considering he said he was out of that thing.

Gang Wars. Drug Wars are just a reskin of Gang Wars anyway and I like how the members in Gang Wars can be skilled up. It feels more complete IMO and better thought out where as with Drug Wars it's like they couldn't come up with anything new or interesting so they just threw a new coat of paint on and called it something else.

Like don't get me wrong Drug Wars are better than a lot of side missions, but against Gang Wars only it feels a bit lacklustre when you start thinking about it 4th dimensionally.

I like them both a lot, they're probably the best done of any infinite side missions in GTA. Feels like a real mission each time and lots of variation. Gang wars wins because being on a bike makes it more unique and challenging, plus drugs wars loses points because Armando and Henrique are insufferable and it always feels slightly jarring that Luis is still working with them even as he's meant to be leaving that life behind.

Gang Wars. They are far more challenging and varied. Yes, in comparison to Drug Wars, which feature four mission types, they have three, but you often don't get to see a certain mission type getting repeated for like three times continuously. Dialogue is far more engaging in Gang Wars as well, and the fact that the Lost backup buddies have progressive bars makes a better sense of progressing. Have I just mentioned the Lost backup? It's more intense to have six companions than two.

I also like how in gang wars you get people throwing f*cking pipe bombs at you. Once you get up some levels they can be really challenging.

Only thing I don't like is how although it's pretty much the only way to make any money in TLAD it's actually hard to make profit off it simply because it requires so much ammo, and ammo isn't cheap and there's only so much free stuff at your house. Johnny is by far the poorest protagonist in any of my GTA games. Not really a gang wars problem but just a problem with the game in general that it doesn't give you much opportunity to make money though (it's realistic that he's not rich just by playing through but there should be options to make extra cash if you work for it imo). Luis can get super rich by betting on cage fighting and Niko makes good money from missions and can always make a decent amount selling stolen cars but Johnny's stuck being poor.

Yeah but he isn't there after the story. Maybe I should've planned better or I'm greedy with weapons but in my main 100% save where I'm at 50 something gang wars I have like $80,000 and can't really increase it unless I do it really slowly or spend tons of time and effort to get free weapons. Even if I never save after dying I still only just about break even between completing a gang war and restocking weapons for the next one, and it takes more ammo with every one. Meanwhile Niko naturally finishes the story with close to a million and can make $10,000 in one go simply delivering a car and Luis can make multi millions exploiting cage fighting betting. I still have enough to play the game/buy what I want as long as I don't save after dying or going on a big ammo using up rampage but I'd prefer to have a slightly more comfortable amount in the bank.

I found out I was wrong about this lol. I was just dumb about not using free or discounted weapons and not reloading the save if I die. Now I take advantage of the free weapons in my safehouse, always reload if I die or fail, and also approach the shootout more intelligently so I don't waste a ton of ammo. And Johnny is rich! He has over 2 million now. I'm obsessed with playing gang wars now, they're so much fun.

Id say drug wars gives an advantage over gang wars only because of the rare color vehicles and the different types of missions. do kinda hate luis bitching.

Actually, gang wars do have rare vehicle colors and different types of missions (hangout, cruising and convoy) too.

I enjoy both but I prefer gang wars because I get to be an outlaw biker crew taking over liberty city and causing chaos showing those Deadbeats and other gangs whose the dominant gang in Liberty City and Alderney State. only downside is some of the bikers are suicidal and ride straight into their deaths when I try to blow up the enemies to keep my crew alive, honestly the tactics could be improved!

I completely disregard the rest of my gang lmao, if launching multiple grenades/pipe bombs into the middle of the battle blowing up my whole crew as well as the enemies is what it takes so be it. My tactic at the start of a gang war where they're cruising is to shoot at the convoy so they stop, lob as many explosives as possible at the vehicles and run away, then pick off survivors from a distance. If any of my crew survive it's by sheer luck lol. They work a bit better when the enemies are "hanging out" and you're on foot though, reasonably helpful when you go in shooting.

Also I haven't played drug wars enough to know if you can do this with them but I like how in two versions of the gang wars you can go as far away from the fight as you want. In the ones where you destroy a vehicle you have to stay close to it but in the others there's no way to "abandon" it or for the enemies to escape. So you can go far away and get more armor/health or lose the cops if you want, or change tactics by going to get a helicopter etc, even call Clay or Terry for bikes/guns if they've been wasted in the fight. Sometimes this leads to enemies spreading out across the city, or just a couple will come after you in a car, or sometimes they all stay put, it's unpredictable.

Like yesterday I was doing one on Charge Island and was about to die so I swam for it to a jetty in Steinway and sniped some enemies from across the water, had a hotdog and popped back by car to finish the fight from another angle. It's good to play without worrying there'll be a fail message popping up for going too far. Another thing is although you need a bike to start the gang war, once you've entered the marker and met up with the other bikers you don't need to stay on the bike or stay near them, so you can go to the fight in another vehicle including a helicopter for a stealthy approach if you want. Any time it's a "hanging out" one I like to see if there's a good roof to do it from.

I liked the gang wars more because I love riding in convoys lol. It makes you feel so badass riding in a convoy, playing LCHC while you and your bikers are beeping your horns down the streets making all the pedestrians stop and stare.

It's like riding to the docks in Diamonds in the Rough, except on a smaller scale and that you can do anytime.

actually, i prefer drug wars to gang wars. i love TLAD, but i prefer drug wars because it's more objective-based. gang wars is fun, but you just kill dozens of people and that's it. with drug wars, you have to steal a bag or a car containing drugs, and that's more fun for me personally.

armando's still a c*nt though. although i don't kill him in drug wars because i'm too lazy to spawn a bodyguard with simple native trainer, i always blast him with the automatic shotgun after buying guns from him 😂

That's what would've made TLAD's gang wars even more intense. I already prefer how they overall work compared to the drug wars, but I still appreciate that drug wars were more objective-driven.

I like both but prefer Drug Wars. The missions are more varied and opportunities to collect the cars. I love trying to escape the chase to make it back to the safe place.

Definitely Drug Wars!

The amount of options available to approach each mission is amazing, you can use any vehicle you want, wanna use the Buzzard or APC? cool, do it because H or Armando will follow you in a different vehicle anyway. The variety of missions is not big, like 4 types? But the locations make it a bit more varied, especially with convoys, predict the route set up some sticky bombs or wait with a RPG.

So far I'm 85 drug wars in, and it starts to get hardcore now, using regular cars will just usually ends with them blowing up. Enemies get crafty and the action is epic especially blasting Beat 102.7 with DJ Khaled and Kanye West "we do it for the hood"
