GrudgefromSanAndreas
Ciao a tutti GTAFrutti! Basically i have a few questions: which city is bigger? which rendition is the most detailed? which is the most alive? I have a feeling 3/lcs Liberty City is bigger, despite overall map of vc/vcs being bigger. But i really wanna know how many buildings each version of each city has and which one is the most believable and lively? Both versions of both cities count GTA3 map: GTAVC map: GTALCS map: GTAVCS map: Edited November 18, 2019 by GrudgefromSanAndreas added new gta3 map
MrBreak16
Vice City is the biggest in map size and area. But the most detailed is Liberty City, it is fill with places and there is no wasted arears, it have more buildings and there is more people in the streets Edited January 27, 2020 by MrBreak16
universetwisters
Vice City is bigger, but a lot of it is wasted space like the insanely huge beach, the airport, etc. Liberty City in my opinion is the superior map. It may not make the most geographical sense (two islands exactly next to each other like what the f*ck is this nova scotia?!?!??!), its basis is insanely vague, and Shoreside Vale was wasted on more industrial sh*t, it's still a charming map that, even when I take off the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia, still holds up well in 2019. Algonquin Assassin
This is a tough one for me. I think the 3D era Liberty City nails its atmosphere a bit better where certain areas of the city feel dangerous, but Vice City has more memorable landmarks and interior locations. So another way of putting it... Liberty City for population density and feeling "alive", but Vice City for its physical prowess. god speed
Size: Vice City is larger, but I think Liberty City uses its land area more efficiently. Liberty City also has more significant differences in elevation and I feel the Porter Tunnel system, the subway and the Portland L-Train also add more "layers" to Liberty City's map in comparison. Detail: I would give this to Liberty City. GTA III was in development longer and to my eyes that shows especially in the environmental details of Portland, there are for example multiple buildings with music coming out of them. While both cities suffer from the "last island is the worst" syndrome, to me Vice City Mainland seems even more rushed than Shoreside Vale with the former as well occupying a larger portion of the map. Vice City wins when it comes to the interiors however. Liveliness: I would say it is a tie, but I think this has more to do with the pedestrian behaviors than the map design. Liberty City in GTA III has a higher pedestrian/traffic density, criminal peds participating in muggings and street fights and there are more street gangs. GTA Vice City however has more varied pedestrian actions like gang members standing in groups, cops chasing criminals, peds sitting on benches and some jogging or rollerskating. While Liberty City has inter-city trains, Vice City has active bus routes in its place. Vice City as well has NPCs using boats. billiejoearmstrong8
I wish the number of buildings on each GTA map was known information. I don't know how you'd go about working it out but I can't believe no one has with the insane amounts of facts and figures people work out about GTA games. I can't even find anyone else asking about it let alone any idea of the answer. Edited November 18, 2019 by billiejoearmstrong8
Lemoyne outlaw
i like vice city the best. although i spent most of my time playing on the vice city stories version of vice city. i only played gta vc a little bit. but i just loved driving down the long roads and enjoying the palm trees and beaches. the music makes it even better. liberty city on the other hand really feels boring and not as unique or colorful. of course i know that both cities are very different. im also not a fan of staunton island and shoreside vale. i think those are some of the weakest areas in any rockstar game. i do like portland though. i like the vibe and feel of it. but thats the only area i really like. i think gta 4s liberty city is 100 times better. billiejoearmstrong8

I feel GTA III got the density right and always felt a bit disappointed that the density was so low in VC. That said, I never really appreciated the change in ped dynamics such as groups, cops chasing and people skating - so good point! I still feel GTA III created an atmosphere that has not been topped (yes, genuinely) and I don’t just feel that is nostalgia. That said over time I am appreciating VC more and more for those changes. Hard to believe they did it in just 9 months. Hard to be believe they both came out around a year from each other. How lucky we were then - I feel for the teenagers of today - having their entire youth pass by before a new GTA... god speed
Max.pain
liberty city for me, vice city is too shiney. story and protagonist are great though, it’s just not my style. as the city atmosphere i’d choose las venturas and los santos over vice city, they are not too shiney for me. Joyrider02
I’d say I prefer Vice City. The brighter aesthetic meshes better with the 3D era‘s visual style and makes it easier to overlook the datedness of the actual graphics, and while Liberty City is arguably superior design wise, Vice City compensates for this with the added interiors and more lively pedestrians. (Sorry for the necro). Edited January 25, 2020 by Joyrider02
Guest
I think Liberty City wins in detail while Vice City may be bigger (though the beach is mostly wasted space). Both cities feel equally lively to me. I prefer Vice City cause I like the 80s Miami atmosphere more + I think it has more memorable locations like Malibu club, Fort Baxter base, North point mall etc. One thing I didn't like about Liberty City so much is that even in midday it feels like it's a cloudy evening, maybe just my perception of it and it still has a really unique atmosphere but I prefer Vice City's aesthetic overall.
