Candy_Licker
Surprisingly didn't find a thread, so I thought I make one. Anybody hyped? Looks really good imo, high production values, great fighting scenes. Is this The Guy?

Laker23
Cautiously optimistic. The more I've seen over the months the more I've liked, so hopefully it exceeds my expectations. Perfect timing of the release, too. Gonna have two weeks off from the 23rd of that month, so looking forward to settling down and watching it. Pepperjack
Watched the entire thing, goddamn amazing. Now I've only read The Last Wish but damn those first 5 episodes were almost pulled straight out of the pages. Minus a few changes they made, which were completely welcome. Great f*cking adaption. I am finally going to read the rest of the books i've owned for like two years. Henry Cavill is Geralt, I don't know if the show would've been amazing as it is without such a huge fan playing him. I hope we get to the very end with this show. I know the showrunners also said the games would never be adapted but it would be f*cking cool if later on they did. Candy_Licker
Already started a thread in November but oh well. So let's continue here. Relieved first reviews are overwhelmingly positve. Will take my time with it. Will be a while before Season 2 drops.
darthYENIK
Merged the two topics. Love it so far. Only played the games, but it feels like those. I’m not sure about the way they play with time. I understand just because I get the lore, but I doubt many people coming in not familiar with the books or games will know how they are skipping around the timeline. Besides the occasional moment of Jaskier telling how it’s been years since he’s seen Geralt, or Foltest and his sister appearing as children like in a painting seen in the scene before when he was an adult, there’s not much a layman can go on to come to the timeline skipping conclusion. Damn, now I want to start a new Witcher 3 play through. There goes half a year of my life.
Jason
Five episodes in and it's really, really enjoyable so far. I don't think I'd say anything about it is special or genuinely great (yet) other than the sword fighting scenes which are amazing but it really is just a lot of fun to watch. Also, there were a lot of question marks around Henry Cavill in the role but I honestly think he nails it, he's the best part of any scene he's in. Oh and yea like a lot of people I really want to play The Witcher 3 now lol. I never completed it in my original playthrough but I may start a new playthough after I've finished up the series. Raavi
Enjoyed it. Thoroughly. Cavill is awesome, couldn't have picked a better fit for the role. But some of the other casting is bleh. Especially Triss and Ciri. Inspired me to start a new playthrough of TW3, because yes. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

Jason
Finished up the first series and can safely say I am very much looking forward to more in the future. Not gonna sing it's praises as the best TV I've watched in a while or anything, it's not that level, but it's really f*cking enjoyable. Going to be looked back on as Cavill's career defining role in a few years I think, he's absolutely perfect for it. Mister Pink

Pesos
Such a big disconnect between critics and the audience on this one but personally thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for more. So much of the complaints around Triss are her not having red hair when she's not supposed to have red hair anyway. That said, not really sold on Anna Shaffer as Triss yet. Maybe she'll grow on me with more time in 2nd season. Still baffled that they chose to call Dandelion by his Polish stage name, Jaskier doesn't really make sense but whatevers. Echo sentiments re: Henry Cavill as Geralt. Perfect for the role.
Mr. Scratch
Kinda disappointed in how they chose to use The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny's non linearity, completely ignore some of the best stories and change things which could've been adapted just fine on screen. Also, why the f*ck did they think it would be a good idea to make every character an absolute of black or white? The books and games have always painted every empire and character as for the most part morally grey. Hopefully season 2 is going to be an improvement seeing as they're working more off of the Blood of Elves proper. All in all, it sure beats the Polish series. Mister Pink
I don't mind such disparity between critics and audience. It's not that I think critics are wrong. It's a huge percentage (45%) of critics that don't put the series too favorably. Does this mean that as an audience member, I wont enjoy it? No, probably not. It will mean that I may spot some things that are poor, cliched, or just could have been done better. Critics aren't always right, that's why we have aggregation. However, they're usually better at identifying flaws than your causal consumer of film and TV. We have to remember that The Witcher is an established series, lovers of the books and games will all ready want this to succeed. Most people watching this will have some interest beforehand. So if it looks good and sounds good, certain other elements will be overlooked by the audience. Whereas a huge percentage of critics might be looking at this more objectively. They may not have played the games or read the books. They're judging it on the merits of it's cinematography, writing, editing etc. We've seen this before with Assasin's Creed Movie where audience gives the a much higher score than the critics. Same with Max Payne movie. Both poor films, with poor audience ratings but audience ratings where about about 15-20% more favourable than the critics. I don't buy this argument really, as there are many, many instances of where the disparity is in the opposite direction and it's quite clear that (mainstream, at least) critics aren't looking at things objectively. Later seasons of GoT being prime example there of. Critics are just a sh*t and outdated relic. 3 hours ago, Slappy212 said: Not as good as the games. Like I expected, Netflix delivered. How does one even compare when the stories are from the earliest books, whilst the story in the games takes place much later? Is this The Guy?
Liked it a lot. Found myself thoroughly entertained albeit confused for a bit because of the different timelines but once I caught on it all came together. It was a little bit rough as far as characterization imo. Might be a little tough for people that don’t know any of these characters at first. As someone that only played the Witcher 3 though I had to look up some stuff. Like when they first revealed Yennefer I was like wtf!? Googled her backstory to find out about her and wondered if Trish suffered the same past but no that was just a casting choice lol. Henry Cavill is perfect as Geralt. Even sounds like Geralt from the games. Saw an interview he gave and he was talking about how he had to dehydrate (well sort of) for three days to shoot the shirtless scenes because it thins the skin and it sits on the muscles better. Yikes. Edited December 26, 2019 by Is this The Guy?

Slappy212
Triss is one of the most beautiful sorceresses in the books. She doesn't use magic to alter her looks like Yennefer does. And they made her look thoroughly average in in the series, lol.
