I have major gear fear in some games...

Gear fear: Obtaining something valuable and keeping it safe and not using it, completely destroying the need to have it

I have this in lots of games, like in Rust I’ll be scared to go out of my base with a good weapon.

However in some games it can be different, like in Red Dead Redemption 2, I’ve seen in videos that you can drink and consume things to increase stats like Health, Stamina and Deadeye.

Well in games that have healing items and buff items, I maybe bring them along, but I never use them, because I feel like their effects don’t really do too much. Like buying an item just for a lick of extra health, it just seems like a bit of a waste for me, but at the same time, I feel like not using it, is also not bringing out the true potential of combat and stuff.

And some buff items in some games cost money, but have a TEMPORARY effect, which convinces me even more to not use them.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 hits PC, should I just force myself to go against my thoughts and buy buff items like Gin and Tobacco in hopes of maybe getting out of this habit of not using them?

I seem to have some sort of “fear” of running out of the items, so I just keep them on me and not use them.

You will find sh*ttons of ALL of these items by just playing and exploring. I only ever remember buying buff items and tonics/food when I need to make a long trek from one side of the map to another, or if I'm gearing up for something serious. For just playing the game normally and taking stuff on as you discover it... you'll be drowning in extra loot, especially if you loot every corpse and take your time to turn every house & cabin upside down.

Buy chewing tobacco. It comes in packs of 4 when you buy it. Spam it as much you want and you’ll have plenty to spare.

A lot of single player missions have optional objectives for gold medals like GTA V, many of which require you to not use health potions.

The game flat out requires you to use consumables if you don't want Arthur to turn into a malnourished, starving skeleton, so uh... idk none of these items are rare or unique, you can literally take a stroll and find enough food to last you for days, don't worry about it.
