Wildey475
So I decided to rob the Valentine's Doctor's office back room. I bought the canvas hood, dressed up all in black and went to town. I put on my hood when NO ONE was near me, rode into town and walked into the office. I pulled my gun, told the doc to open the back room and followed him. He knocked, I stood to the side and pulled out my knife. As soon as the guy who opened the door walked away I stabbed the doc so he couldn't run off and call the Sheriff. Then I equipped poisoned throwing knives and Dead-Eye headshot each of the 4 people in the room (sorry the three IN the room and the one who magically appears at the back door). So no gunshots, all totally silent. The second the last one was killed I get the WANTED: INVESTIGATING notice. I loot the place, blowing the safe since the law is already on me, taking a total of about $50 total in cash and goods. A deputy comes through the door and I am ready for him. He doesn't even turn his head as he comes through the door and I shoot him in the ear. Immediately WANTED: ARTHUR MORGAN pops up! WTF!? I'm wearing a hood that completely covers my face! I shot the guy before he saw me! TOTAL BS! Whatever, I get while the getting is good, shooting a couple more lawmen on the way out of town. I get out of the red search circle, no one is near me so I change my COMPLETE outfit. I ride slowly and nonchalantly maybe four seconds and suddenly a posse going TOWARDS town sees me and a guy yells "THERE HE IS!" and start shooting me. SO I kill all those guys, kick my horse into high gear and finally escape. The result? $50 take... $195 BOUNTY!!!! Why doesn't Rockstar fix this kind of garbage!? By all accounts that was a perfect robbery and would have been so in any game made by most other developers. But Rockstar had to add that automatic wanted notice in the first few seconds. Then when I was out of town the posse riding towards town should not have recognized me since I had hidden my identity and I had changed my clothing. Not only that they shouldn't have responded that fast in the first place. It's 1899, not 1999 or 2019, there are no cellphones. This game could have been SOOO much better. They want you to be an outlaw and then do everything in their power to penalize you for being an outlaw. If you kill a person out in the middle of nowhere do you notice how many people suddenly ride by before you can loot the corpse and become witnesses you have to kill? I am trying hard to actually finish this game, since I payed 80 bucks for it and want to get my money's worth but stuff like this and the broken stealth system make it almost impossible for me. The game is sooo unenjoyable for me. I play it for a couple days and then something like the above takes place or the game forces guns on me I don't want to use for a mission and I rage quit to leave the game sit again. My perfect example of the Broken Stealth System: I'm up by Hanging Dog Ranch looking for wolf pelts and see all the O'Driscoll's by the ranch so I stop to mess with them. I pull my bow, sneak up so I am hidden in a bush and let fly at the guard standing on the windpump. I do it when NO ONE is looking his way and hit him in the head. AS SOON AS I DO someone yells "GET HIM!" and all hell breaks looks. I shoot a couple of them and then being severely injured I flee behind cover and administer first aid. I then circle around the ranch with NO ONE seeing me and come around from a different direction. I started near the west side of the ranch and circled north into the trees. AS SOON AS I pop up from on top of the small ridge that is north of the ranch to shoot a guy everyone in the camp immediately starts shooting at my new location even though NONE of them saw me move there or had even seen me for several minutes. I am amazed at how many clairvoyants there are in 1899 that they know exactly when someone in their group dies (UNLESS Rockstar wants them not to know) or exactly where you are even though the last they saw you was a completely different direction. Yet another reason why I keep giving up on this broken game. I'm not even gonna get started on their laser sighted never empty weapons that can hit you even if you run and zig zag super hard. My auto-aim can't lead a moving target but theirs does. Never have I had such a love/hate relationship with a game before. Even all the GTA games with their broken Law/Stealth systems didn't piss me off this much. The Jungz
This is what happens when a developer is hell bent on shoving as much useless crap in their games, or as some call it, "realistic immersive details". They gotta cut corners and build lazy excuses of gameplay mechanics.
Cutter De Blanc
The mask only hides your identity from regular citizens, not the cops LittleJesus, Darealbandicoot, Petko and 1 other

I think it's pretty clear and well documented by now that you buy Rockstar games for the worlds they build, the story and the content - because no one does those things, taken as a whole, better. You don't buy them for the gameplay mechanics, because a ton of other games do shooting/stealth/combat a hell of a lot better. If you buy a Rockstar game expecting best-in-class mechanics, you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. LittleJesus
Cutter De Blanc
I mean, its not broken in this example, the mask is working the way its supposed to I think alot of people dont quite understand how the mask works, since theres nothing to tell you except trial and error Gleeman Vox

If you're wanted you run away, simple. This isn't a Ubisoft game that has the same stealth mechanics on every single one of their franchises. I unfortunately have lost the clip showing this, but when I was in the middle of completing the Bandit challenges, specifically with the one that had me rob from trains, I had issues with the law as they kept refreshing the wanted circle a couple of times even when I ran far away. It’s the exact same bug as the one in GTA V that had cops refresh your wanted level, thus delaying your escape. Rockstar could do a lot better with the wanted system. They should stop designing them to annoy you for the sake of hindrance, and instead challenge you for the sake of fun.
