Can I Run RDR2 on my PC?

Because of the volume of threads asking the same thing, let's use this thread to get advice on whether you will be able to run Red Dead Redemption 2 on your PC, or not. Remember that the game isn't released yet, so no one can tell specific optimisation tips. This thread is NOT for discussion about the specs themselves. Use this thread for that.

A reminder of the game's PC specifications:

If you want some general comparisons regarding your hardware vs minimum or recommended specs, check https://www.userbenchmark.com/

click on compare and enter models of cpu and gpu

for example, comparing the minimum gtx 770 to the recommended gtx 1060, the 1060 is about 56% faster on general benchmarks

or a gtx 970, a still very popular card: 39% faster than the 770 and 12% slower than 1060

Here's what I think these system requirements are for:

Minimum Specs:

CPU: i5-2500K / FX-6300

GPU: GTX 770 / R9 280

RAM: 8GB

For 1080p, ~30fps at console (PS4) level graphics settings or slightly better.

Recommended Specs:

CPU: I7-4770K / Ryzen 5 1500X

GPU: GTX 1060 / RX 480

RAM: 12GB

For 1080p, ~60fps at console (PS4) level graphics settings or slightly better.

What's PS4 level graphics settings, you ask? We don't know yet. I'm planning on finding out what's PS4 equivalent settings on PC once it's out. I'll update this post as soon as I know.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Since I'd said I'll update this post once the PC version is out:

Here's the video I just made showing optimal/PS4-level settings for the best bang for the buck visual/performance.

Using console equivalent settings as baseline usually works best as it has visual features that devs think suits best to showcase their games on consoles, and also these settings do not have a large hit to performance for very little visual gain, as it is mostly the case, when you select Ultra-Uber settings.

Hope this video helps.

Do you play in 1440p ? If yes then you'll be alright in rdr2. You can easily get 60+ fps.

RadioActiveLobster

If you don't mind installing their application, the long time "Can You Run It?" site has RDR II in their list.

i have inserted my specs and there was some mixed opinions on other thread, now im just intrigued because i have all except CPU, i have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3550 CPU @ 3.30GHz, what is the impact on the game with a slow processor, when all others are ok?

Because Online is poorly coded and synced, there's nothing there that may tax your hardware so much apart from bad optimization. Single player is amazing, but Online is absolute disaster of optimization.

Can I run it on high settings?

You can of course but don't expect stable framerate. In any case you can adjust graphics options as you prefer so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I should set up a VPN for some people. Not a huge amount of perks living in Australia but getting games first is one of them.

1080TI here, I was relieved that no RT was announced for RDR2 because I'm waiting the new 7nm GPUs next year hahahahaha.

I regret not waiting for the 8700k as it was literally 3 months after i purchased my 7700k that they came out. but at the time my motherboard had died and so had my graphics card because of a shotty PSU (rookie mistake) and i wasn't sure if my 3770k had survived. I tried just using a cheap laptop with a gtx960m in it for a while but i missed the master race.

Unless you have CPU bottleneck, it could get to 120 I think.

Just got a 2070Super, thanks to my RX 580 RMA successfully going trough. So happy that i'll be able to play the game at a nice framerate :D.

Im more of a framerate guy than a resolution guy, so i'm hoping for 1080p Ultra 144FPS. Or atleast more than 100 FPS.

if you want 100+ fps you need to play on high. 1080p ultra will net you around 70 to 80 fps. I feel like Yoona is being a bit generous here

Remember we are talking about 1080p here and that card is a 1440p beast.

I hope i can play it at 60 FPS in 4k High settings with 1080ti. If I have problem I think upgrade to 2080ti, for RDR2 no savings cash.

The good thing its that in RdR2 there are no situation with special effects that brock performance (for example Exodus).I hope.
