Who is hiring Merryweather to go after gunrunning sales?

This occurred to me today. If Merryweather is a contract-based private military organization, why do they give a damn about some people running guns? Are they attacking on their own volition? Did some asshat hire them? Who is hiring Merryweather to sabotage my gun deals? Why aren't they dead yet? Not a b&m or rant, legitimate speculation on something I noticed today.

Rockstar is hiring them.

As for I/E, there's a reason they're driving BLUE sultan RS.

Blue+RS=ROCKSTAR!

Maybe they run guns themselves. Eliminate others running guns and there will be a vacuum to fill. Or there is someone else hiring them Rockstar can't be assed to properly elaborate on - just your generic NPC rivals you'll never see.

That or we pissed them off so much over the course of the game we're at the top of their Vigilante Sh*tlist.

many reasons and many are bs..,

one is also the fact if you ever stole supplies, a main target is merryweather..,

so revenge..,

amongst other reasons..,

just like agent c ant say he works with you but can.., and has to say go after them to cover himself..,

in other words R* better make it more even or fair.., there is only so much b.s. people can take..,

About as stupid as Lester, Tony and Agent 14 playing both sides.

+1; same way Lester always answers his phone to help you lose a wanted level... until it's part of a contact mission or heist--or even some job you're doing for Lester himself.

Rockstar logic.

Agent 14, since he also sics other players on us when we sell guns.

It really shows how R* doesn't give a f*ck about this game's lore anymore.

Actually, the likes of Lester, Agent 14, Ron and Tony are supposed to be helping your character and only your character, everyone else is helped by other unspecified people.

Think of if like how MMORPGs use the "you're the chosen one" narrative, even when technically you're not the only one around there.

I hire Merryweather helicopter to protect me from... Enemy Helis from IE barge source mission when I use my own Cargobob.

Great idea, I never thought of doing that. It would be a huge help.

^^ I know I've said this before, but I would love to see Merryweather get a buff in air-to-air and air-to-building combat, as well as underground tunnel combat.

I still wish Rockstar had integrated more traversible waterways in the map to add greater game play and evasion variety, and actually give practical purpose to a naval DLC.

As it is, there is such little use for any water-based vehicle in the game, basically being relegated to the outer edges of the map.

They are a private mercenary company... they need guns. If they take them from you, they save money.

Why aren't they dead yet? Because nobody in GTA Online ever dies.

You can also hire Merryweather to protect you from Merryweather too:

Makes absolutely zero sense, but not only it's hilarious, they're actually quite capable too.

This is a good but the main problem with it is that the MW Buzzard is worthless...The pilot doesn't use the Buzzard's guns, instead only two MW goons use their ARs while sitting on the side of the helicopter, plus they are too slow to keep up I think.

But I'm willing to experiment with this, how much do they cost again? And how long is the cool down?

There's not any problem in the case I just described, since I do it regularly when I get the Barge mission that directs you to Humane Labs (I just ignore it and use my own Bob). The MW Heli is sufficient to distract the pair of enemy Helis long enough that they won't keep up with my Bob and won't do any damage both to the car and the Bob. Costs 5K, don't know about the cooldown. Without it, my personal Bob is sure to get shot down by the Buzzards, since the "fly high trick before going forward" is not reliable to me.

I actually discovered this during the week which all Merryweather services were free.

The long answer to poor storytelling:

I would like to think it has something to do with the broader picture of gunrunning. Doing enough successful sales in actuality would bring unwanted attention. Ergo, it's possible a rival NPC gunrunner could get pissed and try to put a stick in your wheel.

If the missions went with a specific progression in terms of how you'd get bigger and bolder with your sales the more successful you were, instead of the random swill we have now, it could make more sense. Maybe something like only being able to sell increasing 1/5ths (seeing as there is 5 different sell missions) increments of maximum product for each successful sale. Once you'd collect the first 1/5th of the max, you get the easiest sell mission; The 1 Insurgent. 1 drop point. No NPC enemies. If you were successful you'd get the jump up to 2/5ths and imo, you'd get the 5-spot buggy drops with Dubsta enemies. Then 3/5ths would be 2 monster trucks and chopper enemies. Then 4/5ths and the Semi against the cops (hopefully they'd make them more, um "difficult" than they are) and finally the 3 Insurgent (can there even be 3 for this one? Either way.) 5-drop with the Merryweather hive. Yeah, logistically speaking it doesn't really work in any instance other than the maybe the semi trailer for the presumed amount of guns being sold, but in terms of difficulty of missions, it's the best I can come up with.

At least then at the end for a full storage delivery it'd make sense for how notorious you are, and the amount you've accrued, that Merryweather could potentially be hired by some top rival NPC mystery gunrunner to try and stop you.

actually I think it should be a different approach..,

and depending on the player.., or npc aggression scale rng..,

the semi sell might be annoying.., as well as the accuracy of the heli enemies of the marshal(monster truck) sale..,

for one it would have to let us choose which vehicle..,

and should incentivize going for a more difficult mission.., rather than the clear wants you to not make money at all, and clear gimmicky and not challenging, but unfair sales..,

(thought rn it's not really an issue if you leave, wait some time and then sale.., at the price of losing stock for no reason beyond r* wanting to nickle and dime you to shark cards..,)

the system need a to be better..,

and a progression system is a bit late for it..,

and security needs to actually work..,

I think it would be more fun to be able to combat threats before they happen..,

criminals in rl with the resources to know the source of their woes w ont wait til it knocks on their door, steals their product, and wastes hours of their time..,

lol I think that's the first time I've ever seen them unable to fly off with the usual "We're heading back to base".

If you use them in the right circumstances, they can be handy. :)

Last night I cruised around the map for half-an-hour (amazingly without dying!) with a friend in a Weeny Dynasty. There were about 10 to 12 people in the lobby, no Oppressors and only occasional distant explosions. As a roleplaying aspect of the game, Merryweather can be pretty fun and immersive when you want to interact with them, but I wish Rockstar hadn't introduced so many new military aspects into the game and we could go back to a more realistic and organic GTA online. Besides being bored, maybe that's why so many people have gone over to RDR2, just to pootle around the map in their own time.

It would be dumbstar, hoping to frustrate you enough to buy shark cards from them instead of trying to grind.

Nobody. They want to steal your guns for their own profit. They're a paramilitary organization, so I can see them doing this as it's beneficial to them.
