HemiEscort
Since the main difference between Special Edition and Ultimate Edition are the RDRO Bonuses and I already have the experience in GTAO that I do not use anything from the former GTA V Special Edition, the question comes up whether the online bonuses are worthwhile? Are the bonus Blackrose Bounty Hunter and Copperhead Enforcer outfits and the Survivor Camp Theme worth it? They are just collectibles and do not serve any purpose, right? Is the Black Chestnut Thoroughbred horse worth it? Are there better horses out now? Are the free weapons worth it? What are the free weapons? Are the rank bonuses worth it? How long does it usually take you to level 25? Or is it better to invest the saved Ultimate Edition money in some gold bars?
Jason
The outfits and camp themes are just cosmetics, I'm sure you can find pictures of them on Google, it's up to you if you want them. The horse is a great race horse and it's one of the few horses with an all black coat available, it's a good horse but there's plenty of horse options including other race horses that are better statistically I believe. The weapons are nice, it's the Lancaster, Volcanic and I wanna say the Pump-Shotgun I think? They can all be bought in-game with cash and cash isn't particularly hard to earn these days. Very nice weapons to start with though, but yea, can be obtained in-game. The rank bonuses are absolutely pointless, level 25 is easy to get. kreeg
I purchased the Ultimate Edition on XBox. In my opinion it came in really handy when leveling and I will give you my perspective on my experience with that. For me cosmetics in all games are 50/50. They do appear cool in Red Dead Online but they obviously don't add anything extra to the gameplay. You may be able to buy the guns but the money and gold you would have used to buy those guns you will now be able to spend on something else. Such as ammo and other equipment to give you ever more of a leg up on other players. The horse you get is noticeably faster than the stock horse. You may be able to find a faster horse later in the game but you won't find a faster horse jumping straight into online and that Ultimate Edition horse will get you from A to B much faster than that lame horse you start out with. A real bonus with the faster horse is that opposing players will have a difficult time trying to run away from you because you should be able to catch up to them and shoot them in the back. Or if you are being chased it will make it that much easier for you to get away. The real clincher for me with the Ultimate Edition is the experience bonus. As I stated earlier I purchased the Ultimate Edition on XBox and I played with a friend that didn't purchase it. So he didn't get the experience bonus and that made it quite obvious how much quicker it was for me to level up than him. It's been awhile but if I recall correctly when I made lvl 25 and he was still level 20 or 21. Also, since my horse was faster than his and I was reaching our goals faster he was always sort of complaining all the time and asking me to "wait up" or "slow down". And with those bonus guns I was able to kill opposing players easier and it made staying alive that much more rewarding. And don't get me started on those extra 50 gold bars you get when purchasing through the game launcher. Gold isn't easy to earn. Especially when the console version of RDO launched gold was insanely difficult to earn. Rockstar did end up trying to balance the gold earned per quest but guns and other equipment are still insanely expensive so the 50 gold in my opinion will come in very handy such as when purchasing that faster horse or bonus guns you'll end up receiving with the preorder. Maybe the horse isn't the fastest and the guns aren't the best guns but look at it this way; Have you ever cheated in a game and given yourself the best of the best? I have and playing that game always felt bland and lacking. It wouldn't make sense for Rockstar to give you the best horse and guns in the game with the Ultimate Edition. You would be mopping the floor against everyone else, so, they give you enough bonuses to give you a headstart but not enough to spoil the end game experience for you. So with all the time and in game currency you are going to save with the Ultimate Edition it will assist you in leveling up faster, getting around from quest to quest quicker, and not dying to other players with better guns and faster horses catching up to you. In my opinion yes, the Ultimate Edition will be very helpful in giving you a leg up at least against the other players that don't purchase it. When you come across other players in RDO that have the better horse and guns you will notice. edit: I forgot to add that Rockstar gave away additional bonuses to Ultimate Edition players on console with some updates to RDO. JareCzech
Just dont buy it please. You would only support this pointless cash farming of game industry, where they take like 1/4 of the whole price for nothing really. Shame on Rockstar for reducing the price of the Special and Ultimate Editions by 20-25% and offering them as a free upgrade over the standard version while providing free content and bonuses for both single and multiplayer. I'll never understand greedy corporations with their free giveaways and huge discounts! Edited October 21, 2019 by kreeg UltimateAntic
Gleeman Vox
There were quite a few Ultimate edition bonuses that weren't listed that were given Online during the first few updates but they haven't had any for a while. The most ridiculous thing that happened to me was that I actually somehow missed the DLC Rhodes bank mission and I always do side missions first before main missions
Darealbandicoot
Not worth it at all. The only thing exclusive you get is the outfits (which love to delete themselves from your wardrobe and never come back and Rockstar support won't help you at all) and the horse(Which may or may not dissappear forever when it dies or if you discard it). Everything else can be earned and the 5% XP boost until rank 25 is beyond pointless even more so now with the new roles. Stick with the special edition. Yoona
No, these are minor boosts and items for Online only, definitely not worth it. Special edition has few SP additions and it's free upgrade atm, buy that instead. OpenMind23

Horses and weapons are easy to get in singleplayer anyway. The outfit is just a recolor of existing clothes. Survival kit and core bonuses are useless. Money is not an issue in singleplayer so free stuff are useless. RDO $$ is way more useful, and if Ultimate Edition players are getting free stuff with every major update, I say it's definitely worth it. kcole4001
I'd say the R* launcher preorder bonuses are far more worthwhile that the ultimate ed. bonuses. As always I'd advise saving the money and just to play the game, and making money and gold is much easier than it used to be. But then I'm never in a hurry to get to the 'end' if there really can even be considered that there is one. I'm buying the game to enjoy it, taking a little bit longer to get to a certain level is all part of that.
