Some Love for Single Player?

Anyone else properly into RDR2's singleplayer?

These days I see most people active on forums and social media seem to only care about the quality and development of online, personally though I couldnt care less about multiplayer.... havent touched it and dont intend to. As with GTAO (Which I put 700 hours into) in its later phases , RDR2 online seems to once again be designed specifically to extract maximum revenue from micro transactions with very little care as to if the game is actually enjoyable for players.

Rockstar stated they thought the single player element of the game was approximately 80 hours long; to date I've put 270 hours into it and still playing nearly every day fully engaged and enjoying ever minute. The detail and work that went into making the single player world feel more alive and authentic than any game I've ever played for me deserves more credit. The way that the sound, visual detail, dynamic interaction and large variety of activities come together for me make it a world I just dont want to leave; also makes it the only game I've played where I can just wander the map for hours with no particular goal and still never get bored . I frequently switch between an 'Evil' save , for letting off steam and essentially killing anyone who annoys me; and a 'Saintly/pacifist' save where I do everything I can to promote peace and help people.

Dont get me wrong , I'm not deluded, I dont expect there to be any single player DLC..... It just makes me sad whenever I think about how the devs crafted such an amazing SP experience and yet abandon it so readily for the promise of easy income through micro transactions.

Although I've never played RDR2 online, I have extensively read info and viewed hour upon hour of gameplay which only goes to confirm my pre-existing prejudices. Everyone I watch playing online is constantly murdered by other players for no reason and spends disproportionate lengths of time saving for basic weapons or cosmetic items simply because all Rockstar care about is maximum profit.

I'm hoping there are people on here enjoying single player as much as me?

I cared about SP. I loved it. There’s still stuff I have yet to complete. But I don’t care anymore. Why? Because Rockstar doesn’t care. They keep pushing multiplayer, a mode that I just do not care about outside of racers and fighters. Rockstar has come across as exceedingly greedy and lazy, so while I’m sure I could pop in RDR2 and have a blast, I don’t really want to; there’s other games on my backlog that deserve my patronage.

I agree with everything you said.

I absolutely love SP, I'm currently in Chapter 6 of my second playthrough and its been a good 6 months now since I started the story again. Just taking my time, Doing all side quests before story missions (I missed SO MUCH first time around), just general exploring and I'm having a blast with it.

Online on the other hand - I can't stand it. It just feels... wrong.

A friend of mine has got right into online and is constantly trying to get me over but I just can't be bothered with it and go straight back to single player.

SP has everything I need :)

Im still playing single player actively. The only time I sign into RDO is to collect whatever is free then I never get back on. Single player is where it’s at for me, I burned through my first play through sticking to only story missions to eliminate as many spoilers as possible and now my second play through has been stretched over the past 10-11 months and about 250hrs of play time and I just got back from Guarma. I love the game, I find myself taking dozens of screenshots and sometimes just wandering around on foot for hours on end

I'd love if they finally fixed the damn thing up already. It's getting buggier each update. Like the recent patch has halted any new bounties appearing in the Epilogue but in my unpatched save the Skinner bounty in Blackwater pops up immediately along with Anthony Foreman in St Denis.

Online sucks.

The summer update was a massive letdown, there's nothing to do and you're disconnected every 10 minutes.

Camps don't spawn, you lose all your Trader pelts just before a sale. Happened twice and I lost $1200 so I gave up with it entirely.

Story Mode is and always will be a billion times better than that sh*t show.

To think 6 months after RDR1 we had Undead Nightmare as well as the old online mode (which was better than the new online), and now 12 months after RDR2 we're collecting f*cking duck eggs and hairbrushes, it's a bit of a joke.

The worst part is the people defending online like it's some amazing experience😂 Delusional comes to mind.

I think Singleplayer could’ve been better, though, if we’re honest. The story is littered with bad writing decisions. You’re presented with this massive grind in order to get a satchel that can hold a decent number of items, and worse, this satchel can just be bought for cash in the epilogue. Then you factor in the next mission being available regardless of how much money and resources you’ve gathered- that’s a huge mistake for so many reasons. Then, just when you think you’re reaching a point in the story where your cores will max out, nope! Arthur gets sick and your cores are worse than ever. At least he can swim for 15 seconds, right?

It’s like the game is BEGGING you to just save all the free-roaming for Marston. Arthur is the more charismatic of the two, so you end up really wanting to play as him on an emotional level... but on a practical level? There is not one adequately compelling reason to play as Arthur. He has less health, he has less stamina, he has to consume resources more frequently, he carries far fewer of these resources, he has less money, he has fewer shopping options, and lest we forget- he’s barred from half of the map.

It really is like some kind of cruel joke.

yes i do love singleplayer. and there are still some things i have not done yet. like the vampire or some stranger missions. but i dont play it as much because we dont have any of the new stuff online gets. i really hope the stuff the pc version gets comes to the consoles at some point. it would be nice to replay the story and have new weapons to use. i do replay the story quite often. in fact just a few days ago i beat the story again. or should i say arthurs story. what i do most of the time is just do arthurs story all 6 chapters. then delete it after the second i get the first john mission. then i go to my main save and replay american venom to beat the last mission. but after every few playthroughs i do the epilogues too. i really love the story and singleplayer experience. but i really wish we could get a dlc for it. i know it is very unlikely but its something i think rockstar should do.

Same boat man. Back in 2011, I never thought I’d see the day where I wouldn’t spend another dollar on future Rockstar releases. But ever since that interview, I’ve decided that it’s only games that are already out for me. I have absolutely no intentions to buy Bully II, GTAVI, Red Dead 4, etc.

Really don’t blame you after hearing about how much that prioritize online for singleplayer when it comes to new content or dlc is disgusting. I understand making a dollar but got damn reward the people who supported your game it’s so F ucking bad we can’t even get a proper update for weapons and new small story content. Their so shady in patching fun glitches but when things actually need to be patch they are no where to be found.

One of the reasons I don't like online, is because you have to pay to access the service. I don't play any of my games online, therefor why would I pay for online subscription just to play one game. I mean yes, I could, but I won't.

I'm old school, I have been playing all my games offline/single player for the past 25 years. Always have been and always will be.

I only played online when it first launched. Of course I don't play single player quite as much as I used to because it's a very long game, but still despite what critics say that it could've been better RDR 2's single player is probably the best single player I've played this generation.

I love reading the different opinions and experiences with these games.

Aside form the camp spawns I have no issues with anything else the other players do. I get disconnected once per week at best and I play for hours each day. There is ZERO need for using any microtransactions  in RDO though. Collecting gold and cash is stupid easy and you really don't even need it because the prices are cheap as hell for most everything.

I loved SP more than anything but once I got to the end I lost all interest. Screw Marston, I have no desire to play as him. Losing my prized horses sucked. My Arthur had way more money than him because of all the gold bars available in the game. Plus when the game first arrived a couple of glitches made money a non issue from the start. I also hate the area that Aruthur is banned from and spend zero time there anyways.

I don't care at all about SP DLC either. At 44 years old I remember the days when that stuff didn't exist at all. You played a game, you beat it, you moved on.

Although a DLC that brings Arthur back wouldn't be a bad thing ;)

Amen to that. I’m in my fifties, if that matters. I handed over my money in the shop back in November 2018 and in return I got a receipt and the game.

I started downloading the patches but after 1.02 I couldn’t even be bothered with those any more. As far as i’m concerned I bought a fixed product, and i’m happy with it. Just started a second play through.

Still on Chapter 6 on my first play-through. Haven't even touched Online yet. I can't enjoy Online when it's a freemium style model. Make the gameplay laborious in order to make any real progress or to get the things you want so to force you down Rockstar's sales funnel of cock.

Mean while on GTAO and RDO, your playing against anyone, and all people that paid lots of money, not people that actually played to acquire their gear. So what's the motivation to play in a world like that? None for me.

Only solution for me is to make a separate, paid online. You pay a once off fee and there's no microtransactions. Everything has to be unlocked by putting in the skill, the time and having fun. That way, the items feel legit. Items become proper trophies. Rare skins/clothing are worn with pride by people that played hard to get the rare items.

RDR2 SP on the other hand is an absolute masterpiece. I've made many posts in the positive thread about the game, so Rockstar did a solid on that one. Props to them for that. I'm just very disappointed that I'm fundamentally unable to enjoy RDO for aforementioned reasons.

I hate using the term "sell-out" as I'm pro-capitalism and I love hearing people making money from an idea and working hard to make it a reality and profitable. However, if Rockstar was ever deserved of a title in relation to their online endeavours, I think it's "sell-out."

I hardly believe they actually believe that making the whole thing "free" is for the greater good. "We don't want to split the fanbase." What a bullsh*t PR excuse. Imagine applying the "split the fanbase" logic to any other thing you pay in for. The cinema. "It's free for you and your friends because we don't want to split the fanbase. However, if you actually want to watch the film you'll have to grind through 10 averts every 3 minutes. Come guys, we're doing you a favour. Its free!"

No, just let me pay a once-off fee. I don't want to be reminded of paying for more sh*t in my videogame time, f*ck you very much, cunt.

Ah see that's the thing, if it was a paid multiplayer then it would actually have to be fun like RDR1 multiplayer. Plus it would be a one off fee instead of unlimited cash flow via micah-transactions

I don't like the fact Rockstar kills off its protagonists so often. And the multiplayer of RDR 2 is crap imo. R* just copied the GTAonline formula which works with GTA but not RDR

I like them both.... I'm in my second playthrough in SP - and once PC comes out I'll be doing a 3rd :D  But I guess my love for Online is largely because I could create a female character, and I sort of roleplay a story with her....  There wouldn't really be much point if not for the female character, especially since I don't have friends to play with, so the multiplayer aspect is a little lost.  Though I've had a few friendly interactions with people that has been nice, and it's nice knowing they are people rather than NPCs.

Online lacks story (obviously) and therefore any real depth, so you really have to be able to make your own fun and enjoy just grinding to get money to buy things....  But then I do just spend a lot of time in SP just riding around and hunting, so it's no different to that.  I don't like that you have to pay for it (obviously LOL), but I just love the world so much that I'm willing to do that - plus the PS+ subscription gives me some free games I was interested in but not enough to buy - so already I've got my moneys worth.

I will say though that after they tweaked the parley system and added the "defensive" mode (so maybe 4 months ago?), I've been attacked by another player maybe twice - so while it was bad at the beginning, I find most people either just leave you alone or are friendly.....  After the previous update I had lots of disconnection issues that aren't happening any more, but normally I'll get one a week at most.... and I play for a few hours every night.  The camp being packed up is a royal PITA, but I've maxed Trader now so I don't need to do it any more. I find a tip I got here for fleeing your horse then setting up camp works.   I do enjoy the races (unless it's a lobby of assholes), so that and completing at least 1 daily challenge gives me enough of the gold that I could buy whatever I wanted to.  I do like that you don't need to buy gold if you're able to get it in game.

-- However, I'd also happily pay for a story DLC (or several).  I cannot get enough of Arthur and the others!  So it is sad that they will be focusing on Online and not adding to the story.

I have a love/hate relationship with single player.  I really enjoyed the story, but that's about it.  If it was just a linear game like Uncharted or something, it would have been one of the best games ever.  But because it's an open world game, the experience was disappointing (same as GTA V) because ever since Rockstar made San Andreas, I keep expecting them to make free roaming and sandbox gameplay even better (and not just add a bunch of worthless sh*t like collectibles), but they constantly disappoint and I think RDR 2 kind of sealed the deal for me with what to expect in the future.

At this point, I'm only interested in what modders may be able to do with single player for PC (which will determine if I get it for PC a few years from now at a discount somewhere) and do what Rockstar have refused to do since they have their online money making machine going strong and the npc's of the world ready to eat whatever they sh*t out these days for online.

I loved single player. Will play it all over again someday. I haven't touched online and probably won't; put a lot of hours into GTA Online only to eventually realize that I hated the entire philosophy behind its design, and that eventually infected my feelings about the experience to the point that I regret the time I did put into it, even the good times I had with friends when we managed to get around the greed-driven nonsense and just have fun.  Rockstar's multiplayer design, and complete shift in focus to that as their main and only real money-maker, is a major disappointment to me.

I'm less of a gamer than I used to be anyway, but when I play, my focus has turned to developers who do things the right way. I bought RDR2 knowing I was only in it for the single player, and I've stuck to that. Microtransactions are the slow death of an art form.

*Rockstar releases the 2 highest rated SINGLE PLAYER games of the last decade - both with some of the longest SINGLE PLAYER campaigns of the current generation, especially RDR2*

Delusional people on forums who have an unjustified hate for online games (probably because they have no friends) and can’t wrap their mind around the fact that Rockstar is a business and is also trying to compete for people’s time and attention in an age where online gaming is BY FAR the most popular segment of the medium:

I'm smiling because I agree 100% - I'm in my 40s, so maybe it is an age thing.

I bought RDR2, and then played the hell out of it for about four months. I think I sunk about 200 hours into the single player game. It was a tremendous SP experience, and I feel as if I got incredible value for my money. I also didn't update the game much, if at all.

I've no interest in ever playing RDRO; if Rockstar did release a SP DLC, I would probably buy it, but I don't feel I'm owed it - if Rockstar make a business decision that it's better for them to focus on online and whatever is the next game coming down the pipeline, that's their prerogative (and I look forward to buying and playing Bully II or GTAVI or whatever's next when it comes out). The game they sold me more than delivered what I hoped for.

I'm sorry, but to me, quite a lot of the whining and moaning about the lack of SP updates and DLC just comes across as entitled.

I still finds the user scores way more important than the “professional” reviews. And no, it is in no way, shape or form similar to your attempt to be funny, to ask R* to at least give the SP some of the love the MP gets. The new weapons and more clothes would for instance be more than welcome and it would not take that much time nor resources for R* to do it. So there is really no need to come here and insult people just because they love a game so much that they(and I) would love to get some more content. I am even quite certain that mist of us would be ready to pay some micro transactions just to get our hands on the Lemat, other MP guns and MP exclusive clothing.
