Not saying anyone here has done this, but it would be easy enough to do.

i'm sure the Redditors will find that quite humourous

How disappointed will you guys be if GTA VI is not set in VC?

Personally I was against the idea of revisiting VC because I wanted something new and fresh, but after watching Narcos and thinking about how the story could be played out with next-gen consoles in mind, now I will be disappointed if GTA VI is not VC.

Super fast SSD for huge open-worlds, Raytracing neon lights reflecting on the water from the city lights, 80's music quietly playing in the background while I'm cruising down the river with a boat load of coke in the back.

A man can dream.

I'd just prefer Liberty City over Vice City.

Super fast SSD for huge city blocks and surrounding woods, 90s/00s music quietly playing from a parked car while you're taking part in a drug deal in some dark alley. Fight clubs in the basements of some sh*tty neighbourhoods, the Central Park...

A man can dream.

Rockstar initially wanted to have the entire NY state in GTA IV. Now that we can have it thanks to the new hardware, it would feel like a missed oppurtunity not to have it.

Both cities, so we could have different climates.  Snowy in LC, bright and beautiful in VC.

I wouldnt be too sad. I always liked to see a 80s or 90s setting of Liberty City. I read an article about how NYC was very violent, maybe in the 80s or 70s?

I've always loved that dark, 'filthy' criminal feel of Liberty City in GTA 4, and to a lesser extent in Chinatown Wars. Seeing the city with modern day PlayStation or XBOX graphics would be amazing.

Dan Houser leaving has put into to question that either this project is nearly done, he left during production or they are starting over?

Which of the three is it?

2-3 years into production.

Dan laid out the early drafts of the story but rumphries and other writers will be the main writers in gta 6.

Expect news next year

The script for GTA VI was likely completed before RDRII came out. It is one of the first things done in the cycle of making a new game. Dan Houser was the head-writer, ergo his job was done and he could move on.

How could the script be completed before the game even start production?thats not how rockstar rolls

I couldn't agree more. Liberty City just is the most GTA city to me. Rework it, make it larger, add the forests that surround the city, have it in the 70s/80s/90s/00s, add Long Island and there you go, you get the best GTA of all time.

I can't speak for all game studios and how they develop but from what I know scripts for video games aren't just done. Writers can work on the same game for years, right up until the game is content locked and close to release. The script is tweaked as they go, often having to amend it here and there cause something they tried didn't work, or they changed their mind. There's also far, far more than the main story to be written especially for a game like GTA.

Someday I would like to revisit Las Venturas.

Perhaps L.A Noire Part 2 - set in Vegas and you investigate serious crimes committed by the mob, drug deals, gambling exploits and murder.

DLC where you get to investigate extra terrestrial events including the Roswell Incident...

Too soon.

Rockstar starting production after rdr 2 was always the reasonable guess.

I think they started in 2019 i honestly think they just started and the game is years away but my optimistic guess is 2021 announcement.

I'd like if one day it was set in London. There's a lot of gang violence there at the moment, it could be worked into a GTA game and made interesting. It'd be good if we had a totally new place for a change, though I'm not against it being in Vice City again just because it'd be awesome to see it with modern graphics and bigger in size.

If you unironically think that full production began in late 2018 i don't know what to tell you.

There are interviews about this, characters in rdr 2 evolved over the years, sadie for example wasnt the same in the start of production compared to 2018.

Characters evolved, and im pretty sure there is a rockstar interview where they talk about letting the story evolve during dev time.

Nah man, Las Venturas is'nt a good location for a GTA imo. They'd be better off revisiting San Fierro in the 60s or 70s. I always loved driving around San Fierro in GTA San Andreas, it just had a different feel and look to it as oposed to Los Santos and Las Venturas. Las Venturas is just boring and artificial lol (just like its real life counterpart)

Okay maybe 2017 but i dont believe the game left preproduction until rdr 2 released.

For example, gta 5 launched in 2013 and while red dead 2 was in pre production since 2010 it only started full production in 2013.

Yeah, I've said this before, too. With RDR2 they were working on it constantly. Things naturally change, during the development process. Certain scenes might not end up working, or have to be rewritten, etc. There's interviews with Dan Houser talking about things like it.  Too many people seem to think game development is an easy step by step process. The game isn't as simple as that, nor can it just "be done" in 3 or 4 years. These things take a very long time. Hell, Arthurs romance subplot was cut from RDR2, very late on. Like a few months before launch. Anyone who thinks the game is mostly done already are pretty naive.

Rockstar have spoken in the past that the next GTA development starts almost straight after the last. I know of Dan's comments about how they're glad they aren't making it in the era of Trump etc, but that could easily be smoke and mirrors so people don't expect it anytime soon (probably cause it won't be).

You can probably say with almost completely certainty that GTA VI has been in development since 2013-2014. However, development doesn't mean that hundreds of people were working on it for all that time, it could be small teams working on ideas, mapping stuff out, prototyping new features, etc. It most likely entered full development, ie the bulk of Rockstar's team started to work on it, shortly after RDR2 launched.

San Fierro would be great especially 60s and 70s. I always did love visiting there in San Andreas.

That yan rumor was from 2017 one year before red dead launched.

GTA 6 could have a small team working on it since 2016 kinda like the small team working on red dead 2 in 2010

Perhaps the whole "Trump era" comment could be because he does not expect Trump to be re-elected?

Most likely is just to throw people off the scent, although this did not seem to work.

The thing that keeps me stop thinking we might see a logo change tomorrow is the silence between 20th and 25th about the logo change.

It would make more sense to do it 1 day before announcement instead of doing it the 20th and then do nothing for 5 days

Have a read.

https://www.vg247.com/2018/10/24/gta-6-trump-rockstar/

Rockstar boss Dan Houser has said he’s “thankful” he isn’t releasing GTA 6 while Donald Trump is president.

Houser reckons that raging political factions have blurred the lines between truth and satire, and any commentary on the politics of the day in a video game would

be out of date almost instantly.

“It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did,” he told GQ.

“Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd.

“It’s hard to satirise for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.”
