It is not an analogy.

Except it was.

Analogies are comparisons and you made a comparison. You compared one saying to another saying. Saying GTA6 will get delayed because of xyz is just as bold as saying GTA6 won't have abc. Which is why I said it's a terrible analogy because there isn't a correlation/similarity between the two.

No further discussion is necessary.

___________

Personally, I would love to see a progression style game.

Start out in the early 80s or something and finishes in present time. Like RDR2 did a little bit or like I was saying earlier, time jumping between years.

Hell, they might surprise us with something we're not even thinking about.

while it would be nice if they did a evolving over time story..,

I feel it would only make sense if:

they plan to create DLC characters that will take full advantage of the map.., and(after the game is done, you can freeze, and go back to previous times on the map with a character, dlc or younger protag)

the only problem is with characters or side characters or events that occur outside of the actual main map like with the prologue of V..,(or bury the hatchet)

[which in that case would lead more to it being better off to having two different games, in two different time periods, but the past game-being released after the present- to give more insight to what happened in the story, or why things had to go a certain direction.., but so far I have yet to see R* try something along those lines..,]

sidenotes:

breaking bad obviously w asnt set in the 80's.., and the guy that poster that never said it was..,

but his point still stands..,

let's try to discuss what may actually be in the game asides "when" it's set.., there must be alot of things that can actually work in both directions that have not been brought up..,

[asides that glad to see a few that a rent throwing modern, or past out the window-despite their preferences-]

Its not a comparison. I was "measuring" the level of ignorance.

The similarity is in the fact that both statements are based on assumptions, and that R* Games will overcome our expectations at the end of all this.

Im not a native english speaker, so I want to learn the language and from point of view, i am correct. I have spotted no mistakes on my previous statements (grammar/semantically related) and I must defend my thesis until I find out and actual error from my part.

Breaking Bad is still a bit of a western though.

It's what the industry calls a 'neo western', that is - a film set in modern times, with all the attributes associated with the Western genre.

Films/TV like:

No Country for Old Men

Brokeback Mountain

Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Logan

The Dark Tower

And of course, Breaking Bad is another.

Not 1... not 2... not 3... but maybe 16 protagonists! Yeah, modern approach!

This got me thinking... Can you imagine if you got to pick the protagonist in GTA VI? Like the game starts and you're dropped into a free-look camera akin to Driver San Francisco's switching car camera. The game puts you in a select location, maybe a limit of one block or two as to not let you explore the whole map, and there's LOADS of different people walking around. There's no hints, no prompt, not anything. The game lets you figure out what's going on. Then, as soon as you approach your person of choice, the game immediately (and seamlessly) gives you control of the character and boom now you're playing GTA VI as this person. There would obviously already be an assigned name if it's a man or woman. Your character then gets a forced-to-answer phone call about a drug deal gone wrong or something and they (some criminal organization) need you there urgently, and suddenly you're playing the game's first mission and bla bla cue cool first mission that segways into the game's title screen and what not.

However, picking your protagonist would of course heavily limit the game in terms of story, dialogue, design, pretty much everything, and we all know Rockstar would never let that happen (not to mention the fan outrage) so this would probably never work in a main GTA title. I would love to see Rockstar explore this kind of idea in some other franchise though! Could maybe work for a Bully spin-off?

that's kind of the premise of Watch Dogs Legion

True, but that game let's you acquire a whole team of people no? I was leaning more towards a well-developed singular protagonist but yeah I get what you're meaning

Have you ever been to LA? I'm sure I'm not the only one who was kind of blown away by how it had a look and feel that was distinctly the same as the game. R* somehow managed to capture an intangible something about that place. For example as I stood next to a bridge that had been almost exactly copied in the game, one where online I had flown under, jumped off, killed people and so on, was kind of mind bending!

But it's totally subjective and it required a deliberately selective, filtered view. Maybe if I lived there then both the game and the real place wouldn't feel so special.

Also, though I've never been, it looks like they did a pretty good job of basing Sandy Shores on Bombay Beach, CA.

Or even the real life LA inhabitants, who have the luck to live in a house or a area which is build in GTA5.

Like your school, your everyday supermarket etc.

I hope they put focus on Next GTA Online and dont do the same mistakes again. Take the recources and make the greatest online sandbox game ever.

They need to take a unique approach, forget about the time period. Just have very unique characters that drive unique cars, old or not. The Breaking Bad universe is a good example of what I mean. Its modern day but they still drive old American land boats and commit crimes like its still the 80s.

So...gta 4?

Does anyone remember the rumors that circulated a while ago about GTA6 possibly being VR compatible?

Personally I highly doubt it, VR as a whole seems to have fizzled out for now, but I do think it would be cool if the technology evolved a little. Maybe GTA 7 or 8? 😎

I think it's still too soon to include VR features in AAA games, but I wouldn't mind it if they made some other smaller VR game (Table Tennis 2? 😎).

There is more crime in the 80s. More organized crime groups at the height of their power. Modern day is more about hacking.

This is the biggest sh*t, I heard on these forums... there was certainly not more crime during the 80s the any other crime periods, there id still a lot of organized crime groups up to this day, and there is not only "hacking"...

Statistically, violent crime in the USA has halved since the early 1990s.

Though the 70s were even more violent!

Miami was built from drug money in the 80s. The crack epidemic led to a lot of crime in the inner cities in the 80s. Today the Mafia doesn't have as much power as it used to, A lot of criminal activities are done online in the dark web drugs, human trafficking, illegal weapons etc.

There are cameras everywhere today, DNA and fingerprinting, the cops and government can easily check your phone for any illegal activity you may be involved in. I'm not saying crime doesn't happen today it's just not as interesting and hard to get away with.

I'm not talking about Nostalgia. I wasn't born in the eighties so I have nothing nostalgic about it. I was born in 1996.

Why are you so angry? In every thread you just go around babbling nonsense that everyone is wrong about wanting a game that isn't present day.

Umm... almost every single Grand Theft Auto game revolved around drugs.. what are you talking about, Break?

Today the Mafia doesn't have as much power as it used to (...)

Yeah, just look at Liberty City / Alderney Mafia in 2008. Most of them was almost dead, or simply pathetic.

I rather keep up with modern times, because you can relate to it, today we have technologies and I am sure that we coule use it as some new fonctionalities for Gta 6, instead of going to 80s were we won’t see new things because we already saw that in Gta Vice City and San Andreas...  and people that say that Vice City would suck ass if it is not in the 80s are idiot

I think Dan Houser said they didn't want GTA 6 to be set in the present, because any political references they made would be outdated pretty much instantly. This doesn't exclude a game set in a near-past like 2018 tho.

And while I think 80's Vice City would be awesome in HD, I think plot-wiseit woudn't be that good of an idea, not only that could conflict with Vice City's and Vice City Stories' lore, but 3D and HD characters are kinda known for avoiding each other, so imagine the crying when the only reference to Tommy is some minor Easter Egg or something.

My personal picks would either be 1970s Liberty or Carcer City.

Grand Theft Auto IV was released in 2008 and it's a great summary of the 2000's, when it comes to the culture. Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013 and.. is still relevant when it comes to everything? Grand Theft Auto VI set in 2025 would be great, but would it really be as interesting?

Totally subjective, Mr. Ray-gun. You could probably find some lunatic in here who would genuinely love the next GTA to be based in Iceland circa 1953. Or 70s Vietnam. (Actually, Vietnam in the 70s might just about work as an 80s flashback! I digress...)

Anyway, the present-day was done by GTA5 in 2013, so it would be boring to do it again ;)

The short term future as a game setting might be interesting for a year, but as a speculative exercise it would age very fast.

So the 70s / 80s it probably is.

Don’t be an idiot, I for one will miss him.

Driver: Parallel Lines did implement a 70’s and present day setting for New York pretty well - but there wasn’t a show of progression, it was 70’s one moment and then 2000’s the next because the protagonist went to prison. I can definitely get behind this kind of idea but IF the next GTA is set in Vice City, it just doesn’t seem right to be there now instead of in the 80’s.
