No, not everyone are on the same page, and never will be. Each person talks for himself/herself. There's no 'we' and 'our', but rather 'I' and "my" in the context of self-predictions.

A Fall 2021 reveal at the absolute earliest, in my opinion.

It's pretty hard to say for sure. I still think, that VI announcement this year is pretty unlikely but at the same time that very early RDR footage at PS3 reveal is floating in my mind. Not to mention, that recently PlayStation got timed exclusivity on PC's RDR 2 content. It could be part of bigger deal. We need to remember, that Rockstar really loves PlayStation. That's where all this madness started. Maybe some kind of tech demo at PS Meeting? We should find out in month, week and few days :)

Yeah, last year was a bit meh GTA-wise, so let's hope we get anything this year with PS5/xXxboxXx's release.

Also, do you think Rockstar will release a minor game in that time, as sort of a "test" for NextGen's capabilities, like how before GTA IV, Rockstar released Table Tennis to test their new Rage engine on the PS3/Xbox360?

The last 5 years were meh tbh.

I mean it's kinda strange the way they tested the engine, it surely was just to see if everything linked to the core of the engine iniatilized properly on many differents consoles as Table Tennis is a complete style of game compared to GTA IV and i think that at this time the engine was not ready for a game of this scale as shown by the poor performance especially with Euphoria in the background which was a fresh technology at the time, nothing was really optimized and still fresh from the ground up.

The RAGE of today doesn't require a testing ground i think, RDR2 is already the game that pushed the limits of RAGE on this ending gen and you surely can expect technical stuff that was present in RDR2 in the next GTA but in an improved way. They added so many things that were only prototypes when GTA V released in the latest version of RAGE that are now today's standards.

It pushed the limits of old version of RAGE. We can certainly expect to see completely new version of this engine with GTA VI. You can clearly see with RDR 2 PC release, that they started to get rid of outdated stuff (Directx 11 for example). GTA VI will require many systems to be reworked: AI, physics, streaming, damage, lighting, weather and so on.

I’m expecting further use of the photo-geometry techniques in GTA VI. They did some in RDR2 so the hope is that they are expanding on this so texture assets look more natural and true in order to make the world more believable and immersive.

RDR2 kinda felt like a revamped version of GTA V which isn’t that big of a dealbreaker but it didn’t really feel like a truly ‘next-gen’ title if you know what I mean.

So the expectations are high for a upgrade of the RAGE engine to say the least.

That's because current-gen consoles weren't really next-gen even back in 2013 ;) That's what Ninja Theory is targeting with Hellblade 2, nothing of this gen is even close in terms of lighting. We can only imagine what Rockstar is targeting with GTA VI.

Honestly, since GTA 4, all of the games they put out look alike. Except for L.A. Noire probably.

I really hope they do something with character controls and responsiveness on the new version of RAGE. Not that it's a problem, but both GTA V and Rdr 2 could have been so much better if the controls weren't so clunky.

Go play GTA IV and tell me that RDR2 and GTA V's controls are clunky and go play GTA V next to RDR2 (or GTA IV next to V) and tell me that from a technical point of view that they're similar, BTW L.A Noire is not even a RAGE game.

Yeah I see what you mean. Niko felt a lot more lighter compared to the characters in GTA V and RDR2 where they all handle like big sacks of potatoes waltzing about, that’s true.

Niko felt like he didn't have any muscles and weight, it shouldn't be like that but well, those were early days of Euphoria. Characters shouldn't move like dolls. I can't believe, that anyone misses this.

It looks ridiculous and simply outdated. I would never want to go back to this.

i don't know when was the last time you played GTA IV but Niko is probably the least responsive character in all video games. controlling him is honestly painful sometimes. luckily they fixed it in GTA V where your character feels much more responsive

You have to admit that's kinda funny though. I do like realism in games but sometimes there should be room for weird stuff like this. It brings more joy  and value to the product to say the least.

It looked and was funny back in 2008, it looks funny for the first few times when you play this game first time but now? In 2020? Just like I said, simply outdated and ridiculous, definitely not funny. Not with RDR 2 being here. Both GTA V and RDR 2 characters definitely feel more like humans. It's an upgrade, not downgrade.

edit

Looks like someone merged 2 different graphics eras :D That's why no one shouldn't try to remaster almost 20 years old games.

It was a while ago tbh so i'm not sure lol. I would however take GTA V controls over anything else just so we are clear on that. Niko was lighter, but a bit to twitchy in some instances.

It was f*cking hilarious, and so much fun, though. I'd happily go back to that. But yes, I'd prefer a better improved version. But I don't want the 'fun' taken out of it.

Pure speculation of course, but this fan-made trailer is pretty awesome if you don't take it too seriously.

How large do you people think the map is going to be? I’m hoping it’s at least 2X the size of V, but the wish is that it should be larger than that of course. The question is though, will the new consoles be able to give us that result? What do you think?

I believe, that with all this new tech Rockstar will focus on depth rather than scale ;)

Don't forget GTA V's map was meant for PS3.

It's not about how big map really is but how detailed that map is, that's what consumes a lot of memory. I would say, that map twice as big as GTA V map would be big enough but it should be way more alive. That's what I expect from next-gen open world games, truly immersive living, breathing world :)

I was just replying to DracoNord regarding whether the new consoles will be able to give us that result. I still agree with you though, if anyone can give us both quality and quantity it's Rockstar.

Yeah, I know that. I’m just a bit worried that it’s gonna be smaller than expected and then we will have to wait another decade before the next game comes out and that’s no fun you know. I mean I want more immersion too but as i see it the larger the playground is the more immersive the game becomes, if that makes any sense.

I also believe that R* is fully capable of making gigantic worlds with tons of details that they usually put into their games, it will just take longer that’s all.

Gigantic world won't make GTA VI better. Just Cause since I can remember has huge worlds and it's not better than GTA ;)

Well that’s probably because they didn’t utilized it properly, not to mention the awful story script they were working with. I’m confident that R* could make it work ;)

A bigger world doesn’t have to be a negative thing, if done properly that is.
