Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was full of uninteresting and unimportant crap, that's why Grand Theft Auto IV felt like a regression for you.

Rockstar, probably, thought that so much unimportant crap is not necessary in Grand Theft Auto IV. Sadly, so many people demanded it (I bet they never do 100% anyways) they included it in Grand Theft Auto V. Okay.

Quote

Makes sense. I thought it sort-of worked for Hitman

It ruined the series, for me, at least.

What I might consider to be the "biggest" gripe about GTA IV is the lack of car customization. Brucie's garage simply teased a lot of players that by the end of his branch of the story, car customization would've been an option to unlock, but well... you know how it is.

And by "biggest gripe", I didn't mean game breaking, not at all. I don't really care about it that much to be honest, so you can consider it more of a nitpick than an actual complaint. Shows how much I'm satisfied with the game so far.

So, in my opinion, one of the changes that GTA IV implemented was getting rid of the "fat" as some people might put it out. It tried to keep it more grounded and to fit better with the protagonist's background and the game's story, which also leads to the removal of some unnecessary elements that feel out of place in the crime game that is GTA, such as the jetpack, weird customization options (underwear, colorful haircuts, gimp suit, whatever), a remarkable amount of random side-missions that aren't crime relevant (paramedic, firefighter, valet, etc), RPG skills that don't even rely on the players' actual "skills", but rather on how much they repeated the respective process (be it shooting, driving or whatever), etc. That also applies to some other stuff that could've been in the game, but were left out nonetheless, such as swimming underwater, countryside, and more. R* simply decided to focus more on the core gameplay mechanics such as shooting, driving, fighting, physics and Euphoria, as well as including a decent amount of typical crime side-missions, rather than adding tons of random activities and features, which is also why they went back to a one-big-city type of setting rather than spreading wider to countryside and desert, allowing them to put more effort on the city itself and rise the bar up as far as details and realism goes.

Not to mention that GTA IV was the first GTA title to use the RAGE engine, as well as the first GTA title to be released in the 7th generation.

I wonder how they’ll address the online portion of GTA6 actually. Going from being fully geared and powerful with tons of businesses, weapons, vehicles, properties to a peasant with a pistol will likely hurt a lot of players (not me, I need a fresh start). Maybe Rockstar will give a headstart for players coming from GTA5?...

Moreso, online DLCs might feel redundant unless they’re all entirely new... But with all the insane amount of vehicles, toys, content GTA5 already offered I can’t help but predict a ‘been there done that’ kind of feel whatever they release, a bit like when Sims 4 released its ‘pet expansion’... after Sims 3 having one, Sims 2 having one... It losts its novelty and just became the ‘expected’ expansion.

Owning a nightclub, a boat, penthouses and stuff are all things that can happen again regardless of the settings.

Red Dead Online 2 already has a bit of GTA:O/5 in disguise in its designs, so déjà vu is bound to happen. The core will need to be very solid.

Our online character was incarcerated? And lost all their assets?

Oh it’s entirely possible to find lore explanations. If it’s set in the past (in the 70s or 80s) it’s even easier to justify. I was more talking about the players’ feelings, the sense of being weakened, being once again a nobody with a pistol.

Going from being fully equipped in GTA 5 to once again being weak. The fall might hurt, even if it’s an entirely new game. Starting from zero is something many players might not like after all the effort and time invested in GTA 5. I personally won’t mind since a hard reset at this point is necessary but I could see some players being repelled by it, having to grind your way up again to earn what you already owned in the last game.

I doubt there will be much (if any) transfer of progression from V to VIs online. But a fresh start would be nice. Hopefully no flying bikes and insta kill snipers/ lazer guns this time around.

why should there be a charackter transfer?  I have never seen a transfer from one to another game in 30 years, and it would make no sense too.

what do you expect, when inserting GTA6 for the first time? like " congratulations for playing GTA6 the first time. you have now unlocked everything, because you played another game."

Where is the sense of unlocking things by playing and investing some effort? For me its a great feeling to level up again...

funny thing is, when GTA4 was released, it was sh*tted by all, because "no content, to gritty/dark, too small, too serious, unrealistic physics" etc.

That’s not really what I was getting at though but GTA:O was an extremely grindy experience by itself, so to work again through content that could be very well be simple glorified GTA5 designs in disguises just to use what we already had previously can be a bit meh. For example, unlocking access to a shotgun after 10 ranks in the next game will not feel that much of a reward imo.

It’s not really about skipping content but more like giving benefits for being a loyal player. That’s what Guild Wars 2 did actually: if you unlocked a few things in Guild Wars 1, you were awarded tons of unique cosmetics and achievement points right off the bat in its sequel. Just like we can unlock unique guns in RDR2 by playing GTA5.

It’s not that uncommon, really. A loyalty system could lessen the sour taste of having the handicaps of starting over and being weak and nearly useless again. Plus it would encourage people to buy and play GTA5 while we wait for the release of GTA6.

I personally don’t mind that much if we don’t get anything but a mass fresh start, but being locked out of my assault rifles, shotguns and sticky bombs behind a rank gate in the next GTA would feel extremely superficial to me.

You literally could transfer your character from ps3 to PS4. Also relax a little man. I’m just sayin, that GTA ONLINE, is an entity in itself, so it’s not far fetched to think that they would allow us to continue using our character via a character transfer. You assumed I meant that everything was gonna be unlocked from the start, which I have no idea where you came to that conclusion, but that’s not what I meant. I mean the actual character and maybe some perks you’ve accumulated. And perhaps some guns and vehicles, similar to pre order/special edition bonuses

We play GTA5 for 6 years now. This leads to grindy gameplay of course, because otherwise the game should have fresh content for 6 years, which is absolutely unrealistic. Every game which is played longer than 2 years is grindy. there is no way around it.

OK I agree with benefits, but I dont want to get 20 weapons at the start because I want to unlock it. I still like the feeling of unlocking things...

I agree with the character itself, but to have unlocked cars and guns, makes still no sense to me.

But maybe its me with my obsession of unlocking things.

With the SE edition you got a pump shotgun, bullpup shotgun, SMG and a Khamelion. That’s sort of what I was referring to. It didn’t really make that much of a difference but it gave you a fighting chance at the start and was an incentive

It’s not even remotely off topic, we’re talking about potential for character transfer from the previous title to the next. What are you on about?

A post from Reddit was removed. The user claimed to be working at take two and the following was what they posted:

"Hi Everyone, for the last few weeks a very renown Digital Media company I work at that is apart of Take Two has been very deep into production for creating a reveal trailer of some sort for a very well known Huge Open world video Game Franchise. I cannot disclose the company or AAA title itself as myself and many many others are under very strict NDA. Annoying but necessary. Many people, myself included, have been particularly responsible for creating this. We have been using Development kits from software and hardware company. The absolute deadline for this is the end ofJanuary, I assume what we have been working on will be revealed sometime in February. There are rumours that it will be shown off in conjunction with an extremely well known Software and Hardware Company, via their products we have been able to create this. I am very excited for everyone to see it, so stay tuned. I apologise to moderators as I am unable to validate this claim as of right now."

Some sort of loyalty reward would be the most likely option. An example would be, those that played GTA 5 will get a small apartment and 250,000 bonus. Also there is no way GTA Online is going to be as cheap as it was in 2013, just look at Red Dead Online. So a bonus makes sense and Rockstar is known for giving loyalty rewards to those that play their other games (GTA online on PS4 and RDR Online), no reason to stop now.

Plus GTA V is the fourth best selling game of all time. Even if a reward was given to GTA V players, it not going to be a huge advantage, because most would be able to claim it.

As for releasing similar content in GTA 6, I don't think it matters too much. since it will allow Rockstar to improve upon GTA V's updates.  Giving them a fresh feel, sort of like how 2019 Heists are an Improvement to 2015 Heists.

I too want a fresh start, but for those that are expecting to keep their stuff they are delusion.

This dude said so much he'd be fired immediately and destroyed by lawsuits.

Maybe someone sane in Rockstar Games will be taking care of Grand Theft Auto: Online this time and DLCs will be more ground to earth?

My guess if GTA:O2 will start out slow, slowly have smaller things added in...then years later, crazy machines/vehicles will be added. Pretty much the same as GTA:O. What I think could be a game changer is if the map is larger, has more then one "larger" city, and has a different setup for lobbies. None the less, a new map and better graphics will be a huge change of pace from the last 6/7 years... maybe 8/9 by the time the game drops.

I said it once , I’ll say it again.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be revealed in conjunction with the PlayStation® 5  at the reveal event in February along side many other blockbuster reveals. Sony is going to not only going to dominate this generation of video gaming they very may well corner and make their brand THE ONLY brand that can actually be taken seriously (We all daw what happened to MS this gen and honestly I don’t think they’ll ever make it back to the prominence the 360 had over the PS3) and.. (Yeah I know this what everybody says) My friends little brother whom is a super geek he’s 16 (hacks GTA Online, NBA 2K VC, and Apex Legends loot) stated to me that he has a connect he corresponds with on Reddit and he told me that it will be announced that GTA VI will be PS5 exclusive at this event that coming.

For me there are three things that indicate this might actually be true.

1. I’ve heard from many sources the PS5 reveal is indeed happening the second week of February (Around Presidents Day) with a full fledged press event.

2. My friends little brother (his name is Sean) actually has shown me his hacking abilities and his sub reddit, he has an Armored Kuruma that cannot be blown up, and he has cars that are glitched to the point he can’t sell them lmao.

3. He showed me the PM he got regarding this rumor. I’ll try to get it from him today.

I still don’t believe it to be honest simply because it would hinder the sales for Rockstar outright, but one things for sure Rockstar is up to something.

Game has held back by hardware,GTA 5 for the ps4 is the intended experience that rockstar probably wanted to release in the 360,first person view was the revolution gta needed and it would've been the mindblowing new feature to announce before release.

Game also lacked alot of interiors, cant even go to clukin bell or bars anymore, something gta 4 had.
