Camp wasn't pitched when I loaded in, tried to pitch it, got the Cripps has packed up your camp message. So I checked the player list, 27 players in the lobby, I'd only ever seen 24 at the most prior to that. As it doesn't affect my collecting I went about my business, tried to pitch camp occasionally, it finally worked once the lobby had got down to 18 players. Krommer
I found a weird thing with the camp bug, which seems to work; I go "west." The direction probably doesn't matter, but going fairly far away seems to help. So I'd want the cattail pond camp. If I was AT the cattail pond camp, or in the area, I'd have no luck selecting to "set up camp." Even if it did work, after several tries, I'd be somewhere horrible instead (in Grizzlies), like Moonstone Pond or way up by Hamish. Then, I found something out; If I went west along the tracks, to that first station with the bounty poster, THEN I'd be able to camp after one or more tries ( Well, sometimes as many as seven... I'd also OFTEN get the camp right on Cattail pond, or just south by the tracks, or east along the tracks.) Doing this I'm able to get RIGHT ON the cattail pond camp quite a lot. I've found the exact same thing to be true in Rio Bravo. If I'm in the area, say around Rio Del Lobo Rock/whatever, I'll have several tries and not get the camp. If I instead ride west fairly far, say to the Gaptooth Ridge area, I'll then get Rio Bravo camp in 1-5 tries (it is also often the "good" one I want, around the Fort Mercer/Rio Del Lobo Rock area.) I've done this enough times for it not to be a coincidence. It really does seem to help, moving farther away and even to another area (then trying to select that camp area again.) I repeat the process if I do a mission and it puts me in a stupid single lobby, then I lose the camp again after; OFTEN I get a camp in the same place this way (when initially the camp was gone, with me not being able to get one upon returning.) HopalongCasidy
It may be just me, but camp issues are fewer and farther between. I do camp in Cholla which is a fairly underused part of the map, though. Yesterday I had 24 person lobbies spawning animals normally. Didn't matter where I was. Again, just personal anecdote, but curious if anyone else is noticing a difference.
fryday
I rode to the territorial border great plains - tall trees to test a bit with the region you are in. but I had no reliable answers. I found no trick concerning your location while setting up a camp.
Krommer
I did the same thing again, to test. Tried to get Rio Bravo camp, could not in several locations. Then I went to far South West, by Gaptooth bridge default camps, still could not in several tries. Then I went just a bit north, between there and Tumbleweed; Got the Rio Bravo camp I wanted in the first camping try. It really seems to be based on the location you are in NOW, as to how easy it is to get a camp in a certain area. It also seems way easier for me when I'm NOT in the area I want the camp in, at all. ------------- I now found an instant spot that I had work on Saturday, in Rio Bravo, over and over again. I detail it in a video here (once I figured out how to get xbox videos on youtube...) Mine is one of the last comments. I figured you are only supposed to post the videos in that thread? --- Did it again just now, on Sunday. Took me two tries, again got the same exact camp as in that video (south of the tracks, under Benedict Point, Rio Bravo.) Karen Daniels
What has worked for me is to attempt to set the camp where you want it (for me that is Scarlett Meadows), and if it does not pitch, try somewhere close by or further (Hennigen's Stead for example). It works within the first 5 attempts. I had no issues with the camp over the last 2 weeks (and once the patch dropped) but yesterday and today, it seems to have reverted back to the buggy ways once more. I am rather glad I have not focused on the trade role, because this has deterred me from it even more now.
ram_pete67
chose Bayou Nwa for my camp. Tried several times. finally it worked. "Your camp has been pitched in Cholla springs". Thank you Cripps.

So I went east just to where the default was Cholla Springs, then moved the selection to Rio Bravo and instantly got one. fryday
my method (which is not working anytime) : try great plains around 3-5 times. if this doesnt work, I try tall trees and sometimes henigens stead, if nothing works. But I could not confirm the "territory you are in atm" theory. Karen Daniels
Bongespob
Lately, when I log in, my camp is on the map, but when I try to travel to it from a fast travel point it says "Your camp isn't pitched" or something. Then when I try to set up a new camp, all the options are grayed out and it gives me the message that my camp is currently trying to be pitched. The blue camp dot stays on the world map and if I get to it by horse, its there, and I can interact with all the stuff at camp, but I have no options to move it or fast travel to it. Karen Daniels
The only thing I have ever noticed that is impacted by your location (aside from the listing of spots) is which site your camp will be set in. So, for example, I love setting up in Scarlett Meadows, specifically either just north of Rhoades or somewhere between Rhoades and Saint Denis. If my camp is not pitched when I load in, I usually move closer to Rhoades (say the open fields where you meet the twin brothers to sell horses to, in the story) and set it up around there. Usually that will spawn the camp either at Clemons Point, multiple spots around the red building along the tracks or even in that field. Sometimes (if I am closer that that bridge) it will spawn up by the stables and then I have to move it and try again.
