When THIS happens.

When mutha f*ckas are making dual-Pegasus chariot shipments of Cripps-made Moonshine, we will finally reach the Oppressor Rat-F*ck bike chaos (the Bunker update) that finally KO'd GTAO as a slightly reasonable PvP game.

But the only time GTAO ever had "reasonable" PvP was in its infancy, back when no one could afford explosives or hasn't unlocked them yet, and forced-weapon deathmatches were populated. After a while, the explosive spam and the jet griefers came, permanently cementing GTAO as a total cesspool.

And Gunrunning ruined GTAO? Not the Import/Export update that could've been a normal one, but instead introduced everything we loathe about GTAO today?

Being able to use Sticky Bombs while driving killed GTAO and that was from release day.

I don't think we'll see it get GTA ridiculous. Some of the stuff that I've seen predicted on this topic will of course make its way into the game.

I have nothing against the wacky coloured clothing, it's not for me but others wearing it doesn't really ruin the game for me too much. Hot air balloon? I wouldn't waste my money on one. I fancy my chances of picking off the explosive throwing pilot with my rifle. I think it would be a novelty item and I think that novelty would wear off quickly for most people. The cart with the gun on the back worries me the most, it would be purely a griefing tool. If that got added I would like to think it would be very slow and heavy and the ammo would be very limited.

Give it about 2 to 3 years and pretty soon we will have flying horses, the ability to control animals, hot air balloons equipped with maxim guns and gliders. It looks like they are already testing the waters by adding those pink puffy jackets and weird colored shirts.

Title should be "When Will RDO Become Too Ridiculous?" I think we're already there. Without player feedback the game began with the ability to buy pamphlets to unlock EXPLOSIVE AMMO. It took GTAO years to get to this point. Even then, GTAO has only 1 gun that gets 10 explosive ammo + aim assist. Compare this to RDO that has 50 explosive ammo + aim assist on EVERYTHING! This isn't counting the Dynamite Arrows that also has aim assist. Oh you're using Slippery Bastard? Guess I'll have to turn on Paint It Black so I NEVER MISS. This game's PVP is trash yet some ppl like it so I guess one person's trash is another person's treasure.

I'm not going to disagree with you. When I said KO'd I really meant it. That wasn't to say it didn't have horrendous ridiculousness before that. My point is that the true, undeniably blinding madness sunk in to full batsh*t insane with the introduction of the Oppressor.

Red Dead was suppose to be a more grounded, somewhat realistic game compared to GTA.  RDRO on the other hand seems to be heading in the GTA direction, if not already.  We already have explosive ammo for just about all the guns.  Ability cards when added with Tonics, can make someone look like they are using God Mode hacks.  Plus continuous bugs that plague the game already.

So how long till this becomes GTAO  Old West Edition?  By that I mean Hot Air balloons that has lock-on Dynamite Arrows, and horses with Duel Mounted mini-guns.  Or ability cards that allow us to train Grizzlies, and Wolves to maul other players.  I'll stop right there.

If they would limit the tonics like they do the explosive rounds, it would tame it down a bit.

The fact that one pamphlet and a bunch of duck hunting will yield you 40 rounds of explosive ammo spread across 4 guns is a bit OP.  Plus two more pamplets gets you 10 more explosive rounds and 8 dynamite arrows.

But the difference is that they are time consuming to make unless you’re a consistent free roam Hunter (which I am, and I get straight PvPers whining all the time how I never seem to run out of explosive rounds in matches....well duh, I usually have a full set and have 20 fats ready to make more if need be).  So there is a bit of dedication to always have it.

On the other hand - the amount of tonics you can carry is absolutely insane.  30 potent, 30 special, etc etc...of each one.  Playing old school text RPG’s - nobody liked quaffers.  That needs to be toned down even more.

This isn’t that insane, because at least with ammo you run out fairly quickly.  Potio———errrr, tonics though need a break.

You can’t PIB a SB.  Kind of the point of it.

Next-Gen Vercettis

RDO is set in 1898

GTAO is set in 2013 (ish)

So.. Around 115 years.

I enjoyed forced weapon deathmatches on GTA. Gave it a sense of balance and you actually wanted to compete, unlike now.

@DarksunDaFirst I've definitely been victim to PiB with a double barrel while I was using SB, so unless they've changed it you're wrong there.

Maybe they did change?  I remember not being able hit them with dead eye before.

Admittedly I haven't tested it myself anytime recently, but before they nerfed SB I had it equipped one time doing a gang hideout in Rio Bravo and these guys come rolling up on me out of nowhere and decided they wanted the hideout I guess so after I took one of them down all three were on me and I kept getting killed with double barrels from 20+ yards out while I was in dead eye and they were also in dead eye. Wasn't a fun encounter.

Yet this game has a strong core of mature players -- not just age-wise but mental maturity -- who love the genre and don't want it to become a GTA clone in a simpler era. Rockstar would be insane to alienate this solid base of players even more than they have with ridiculous ability cards and nitro-bullets. That's why I don't think we'll be going further down that route. They'd be stupid to take a chance on losing players on the slight chance they might attract a few less mature-minded players -- because those players just don't find this slower-paced, less technological world appealing. They want a game that gives them nonstop action, explosives, and speed.

Two separate player-bases here in GTA and RDO. That's why I think this game will continue to grow in a good way. At least I have reason to think so.

Hah!

You're wildly overestimating Rockstar and overlooking the fact that the people who are in charge of the online mode and the ones who were in charge the singleplayer are absolutely not the same.

This online Rockstar very much is completely stupid enough to do every single thing you said.

They're the kind of folks who think they should be more like Fortnite and/or CoD if they want their game to be successful.

I'm not going to give anyone who likes them any sh*t, whatever floats your boat. But look at the f*cking state of these.

We aren't even a year in and this is what R* is already putting in game. For f*ck sake.

I've already seen one player fully embracing their new try hard uniform at the Saint Denis butcher. Ram skull mask on their Red Arabian, no shoes, overalls, no shirt and the green pig mask. I can just imagine showdown and story mission lobbies.

I closed app, just seeing such an abomination sapped my enthusiasm for playing instantly.

I don't blame the player either, they were using available cosmetics, I blame R* for their lack of imagination getting us to this point so quickly.

Rockstar should now consider giving us private lobbies, to keep the immersion and the era as true as possible, like they want us to experience. With the current development of the clothing designs in game, they are breaking it down fast.

Agreed. Those masks are just the kind of thing I was hoping would be left in GTAO.

What's the point of having a game with a strong leaning toward relative authenticity and decent atmosphere if you're gonna muddy the waters with Clownshoes 101 garbage within a year of release.

Meanwhile I still can't get forage caps or an unweathered western hat

What's the deal with Rockstar's obsessive fascination towards masks? Anytime they update GTA Online, you can guarantee they added at least five mask designs, and with three dozen color variations for each one of said masks.

If you couple the new masks with the recently-added bright pastel clothing, then the future's looking grim, at least in the fashion department.

What's the deal with their obsession towards anything ranging from tacky to the ridiculous.

They make this stunning world, push gameplay towards a PvE, roleplaying experience then ruin immersion by catering to players who want to run around looking like the b*stard great grandchildren of Violent J.

They should give us private lobbies anyway TBH. Disable distant Trader sales and player bounties and all the freeroam content from FP is completely PvE anyway.

The game would run better too.

It's impossible for them to stick with realistically western themed game, they just can't do it.

Private lobbies! I remember really B&M'ing about them here back in the beta days. We still need them! Perhaps for different reasons now though, given the griefing has gotten less bad over time.

Also on the topic of ruining immersion, the masks are the worst, but let's not forget the fluorescent clothing we get every 2nd week...

Horses have masks, toons have masks, everyone has fecking masks. Next is gonna be a mask that shoots explosive rounds.

Well, who knows this is all a prep for a new upcoming role in the next DLC; Clowns in a Theater DLC. We have the clothes, the hats, masks now too. Soon, the circus tent at the Valentine camp will be up and running.

Rockstar will say: "you wanted RP? You got it!!"

This is why I can't get too optimistic about things like Collector and Bounty Hunter being pretty decent - those roles feel more like 2013-2014 GTAO in terms of adding stuff that can be done solo, and feels like a good fit for the world (bit like the old Freemode activities like armoured trucks, and the original contact missions).

But at the same time, you've got the more subtle rot that set in with GTAO around 2016 with things like Finance and Felony: clothing became increasingly gimmicky (or just cheap, gaudy colour swaps of existing stuff), rather than the early stuff that had more utility in terms of creating varied, realistic outfits. And the main focus of gameplay increasingly narrowed down to 'add this property to your portfolio, and spend hours going back and forth doing delivery work in public sessions' - which we've just seen added with Trader.

So yeah, I don't think we'll ever see weaponised Pegasus/unicorn mounts, or anything equivalent to Depressors/Deluxos (although there are already gatling wagons and the War Wagon in-game, so I think it's definitely just a matter of time before R* starts selling those to players) - instead, I think that we're already looking at the thin end of the wedge, and we're going to see freedom in role-playing diminish (i.e., everyone does All The Things, and we're all expected to be Leviticus Cornwall eventually), and cosmetics turn into vaguely old-timey cowboy-ish versions of Fortnite unlockables (look at the Outlaw Pass cosmetics, already), rather than stuff that makes for good, period-authentic outfit pieces.

guess it's just a matter of seeing how much that plays out with the next update - but considering how GTAO's mutated over the years, I'm inclined to think it's a matter of when, rather than if... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
