How long till RDR Online is GTAO Ridiculous?

Recommended Posts

Rammer2k

Red Dead was suppose to be a more grounded, somewhat realistic game compared to GTA.  RDRO on the other hand seems to be heading in the GTA direction, if not already.  We already have explosive ammo for just about all the guns.  Ability cards when added with Tonics, can make someone look like they are using God Mode hacks.  Plus continuous bugs that plague the game already.

So how long till this becomes GTAO  Old West Edition?  By that I mean Hot Air balloons that has lock-on Dynamite Arrows, and horses with Duel Mounted mini-guns.  Or ability cards that allow us to train Grizzlies, and Wolves to maul other players.  I'll stop right there.

It's kinda getting there with some players outfits I've seen.  😂

... 3 years time though.

Considering that Rockstar keeps adding color options like bright pink and purple for clothing I'd say they are doing their best to attract kids or something without making it too obvious.

Cosmetic wise, ie silly outfits, outlandish clothes, yea, we've already got some things that are edging over that line in terms of what fits the theme of the game. It's mainly just patterns and colours right now though, the base clothing models are fine outside of maybe one or two examples.

Gameplay wise, that one tank build is broken as f*ck and ability cards are all over the shot in terms of balancing, they can definitely go down a bad route with these but for the most part I don't think they're anywhere near GTAO levels of flying cars of death. Explosive bullets are OP especially in PvP modes where they shouldn't be allowed unless they're in-match pickups, but they don't rub against the games world or anything and bugs have nothing to do with the game getting ridiculous in the way we're talking about. So gameplay wise I'd say there's still a good ways to go there for RDO to get silly gameplay wise.

That being said in my experience eventually almost alll these types of games abandon their core design principles eventually as monetised cosmetics tend to make developers try to "one up" previous cosmetics in order to sell them. The amount of fantasy or even just cartoony games I've seen where cosmetics at launch all fit the theme and tone of the game and then a few years later everyones walking around looking like they're literally space in a humanoid form is ridiculous.

If I had predict an amount of time I'd go with what Shakermaker said, 2-3 years IF the game is going to go down this route.

Also as for bright/wacky clothing being released to attract kids to the game, it's by no means exclusive to them. Adults are just as bad for buying those types of cosmetics in games and they're the ones with their own credit cards.

Yet this game has a strong core of mature players -- not just age-wise but mental maturity -- who love the genre and don't want it to become a GTA clone in a simpler era. Rockstar would be insane to alienate this solid base of players even more than they have with ridiculous ability cards and nitro-bullets. That's why I don't think we'll be going further down that route. They'd be stupid to take a chance on losing players on the slight chance they might attract a few less mature-minded players -- because those players just don't find this slower-paced, less technological world appealing. They want a game that gives them nonstop action, explosives, and speed.

Two separate player-bases here in GTA and RDO. That's why I think this game will continue to grow in a good way. At least I have reason to think so.

Like others have pointed out, the fashion is already pointing the game to the same path of decline that GTA Online has tread on years ago, but I see that none of you have mentioned the Trader role. As detailed in the interview with VG247, the Trader role will be the starting step in building your own business empire, a concept that Rockstar is too eager in regurgitating from GTA Online. If they're fully committed with the plan this early on in RDO's lifespan, I'm predicting we have just about a year or so until that dreadful day.

This will either be prevented or, more realistically, postponed once Rockstar takes note about how we feel about their implications and plans. Some of us moved to this game as it lacks the hectic and mind-numbing grind that GTAO is notorious for. We want none of that business empire sh*t, or anything that boils down into Delivery Driver Simulator 2019 that's set in an anarcho-capitalist dystopia. It's already bad enough with the meme cards and the garish clothing dyed in pastel colors, but I know for sure that we'll keep receiving this content no matter what.

In the end, I hope they revert the combat "improvements" they've implemented, and I certainly hope they don't leave Mrs. LeClerk's story unfinished.

Have you ever worn a leather duster? There is no such thing as a "hot climate leather duster" and especially not back then. It was a mistake that it was every anything but warm.

But back on topic - I am expecting, in no particular order, Hot Air Balloons, Gliders, Cars, customisable Wagons with armour and Maxim Guns, purchasable Maxim Guns that you can spawn and carry around on the back of your Horse and many other things. A Beastmaster Role would not surprise me in the slightest where you can command animals or make arrows that enrage or placate them etc.

This game's PVP potential died with changes to movement speed.

Hipfire went from an artform in my hands to spray & pray after the Summer update. I still get enjoyment from the PVE added such as Legendary Bounties. However, how long will that last without some PVP to satisfy me? Not long I'm guessing.

After the Summer update I've had people try shooting at me while I was in defense mode and it's hilarious. You can really tell these griefers can't handle the movement speed either with their lack of Free Aim control. That was like a week ago. I haven't been attacked since.

I love it when people pull out their Lasso or Knife and charge at me pressing B (Circle), you can tell because their character does a little shake of the arm.

I  have never played GTA - but love RDR1/2

Like the more real approach,,

but with the PC release I believe we(I) will see a  rapid change into faster play less patience=just look at the looting animations and such.

PC doesn't gave rumble feed back..a lot of what we enjoy on console- will be downgraded (maybe)

lol looking at GTA YouTube vids. No one even drives sanely- guess that's the draw

I was surprised RS was able to produce a mature game Like RDR2 - I had only see vids of GTA.

guess we can always go to RDR1 if need be

* GTA player no disrespect meant to your game of choice.. different stokes, as its said.

Oh I know the reason it's warm Is because of the damn material: leather but I just want a reskin that is Made with another material suitable for hot weather because design wise it's the coolest coat in the game specially for heavy looking characters.

Wagons are definitely coming at some point, expect a pink or neon Green option though.

The PC version isn't a reason to slow the game down. PC as a gaming platform may be home to the quickest shooters out there, but it's also home to the slowest. PC gamers love both type of experiences. The quicker looting and other changes like that have all been a direct result of feedback from console players.

PC also does have rumble feedback if you plug a controller in, console isn't suddenly going to lose that because PC exists.

PC isn't going to hurt the console experience of RDR/RDO in any shape or form lol.

While I understand the argument it doesn't actually matter at all. Take the winter shotgun coat, that went from cold weather only to hot weather appropriate, the opulent vest is sorta warm while the legion vest (exact same model/skin) is hot weather. Then you have items like the marshal coat which the leather one is hot weather but the ones with a bit of fur on the collar are warmer.

It would be one thing if the game was consistent about it.

Honestly I'm prolly still a little salty about it myself, I was enjoying using a couple of the clean leather dusters with a particular outfit, now I never put the thing on cause I'm rarely ever going up into the snow or I have a cold outfit with a different cold weather coat at the moment.

I have two outfits on my Horse, a Desert one and a Snow one. Thats it.

I change my clothes when I feel like it, the only reason I have those two is to stop my Cores from draining.

I'm only of those dorks that's always f*cking with my outfits, I love that I can have 6 on my horse now (I don't count the 7th as "custom outfit" will usually end up overriding it), GTAO I guess kinda disappointed me in the clothing department due to how stiff and bland a lot of the stuff felt to me. So far I feel like RDO is doing a decent job in that area.

but good points

as to rumble and the like, true, but will there be less interest in maintaining or tweaking on console versions..

like I said I never played GTA, and don't have direct comparisons,

But was the feedback from the console version - from PC minded players?

Oh, don't get me wrong. I play Cowboy Dress Up Simulator as much as the next person. I change my clothes so often and randomly that having set outfits is pointless.

Yea I agree with that, the clothing system is pretty good. Not as many arbitrary restrictions as GTAO.

The PvP is worse, lol.

And $300 for a sh*tty little shovel, lol.

As Harry said to Lloyd when getting to Aspen in a favourite 90's comedy... 'We're there' ;)

But it is the best fishing, hunting, and collecting sim to immerse into though. :)

You say this like Rockstar are constantly tweaking or having to "maintain" rumble in the game right now. Of all the reasons I've heard over the years of people being wary of PC versions of games, rumble being singled out might be the most bizarre I've heard honestly. And like I said, PC supports rumble and given that GTA is a popular game to play on PC with a controller due the driving, I expect RDR2 PC will have great controller support on PC just like GTA V... and because controller support in games is an absolute bog standard thing in any PC game in 2019 except certain games and genres that are simply incompatible with controllers.

No, it's from people who are playing the game on console and want things fixed/improved/changed. Literally none of the changes you've mentioned have anything to do with the PC version.

As far as I can tell the only change that may have possibly been done because of PC was the change to Slippery Bastard as PC will be free aim due to the nature of the controls. But it's equally possible that they just didn't want a card designed around the aiming preferences of a player.

I hope cars stay in RDR1 and never make their way to online. I don't want to be fishing on a river bank and be suddenly plowed by a player driving a car.

But if I'm remembering correctly, wasn't there something found in the companion app about a wagon with a mounted maxim gun? If/when that gets added I think it will just be downhill from there I'm afraid

Was it confirmed that the wagon with the turret was in any way shape or form meant to be ownable by players though? Turret wagons are in the game and are used by NPC's. If I remember right the source for that information was Rockstar Intel, who are bullsh*t and clickbait merchants, so I dunno what good that info is exactly.

Though that being said, wouldn't shock me if they did add those wagons of course. On the plus side, you'd need two people at all times to operate on them so it wouldn't be a case of 20+ wagons all firing guns in the lobby and travel times + the fact I just rarely see people anyway means it wouldn't have any where near the impact on a lobby any of the weaponised vehicles in GTAO do. I think if/when they add those wagons it's gonna be a case of people freaking the f*ck out on patch day, a load of wagon vs wagon action in St Denis for a week and then it'll go back to normal.

So as for wagons I'm w/e, they won't do that much damage to the game if any. Cars on the other hand, no thank you.
