Is it possible the griefing meta was actually created by Rockstar?

Think like online games from Nintendo where they match you up with what looks like a real player but it’s actually a bot. What I’m wondering here is if this was something Rockstar could have implemented in GTAV but as a much more discrete mechanic.

Now of course 6 or so years post launch I truly believe there’s a following of people who just enjoy making life unnecessarily hard for others. But going back as far as I can remember in online not only have there been griefers but they’ve been more uniform and in sync than any other group in gtao. From the look, to the way they cause destruction, even down to an uncanny similarity in a lot of the usernames. In the multitude I’ve seen over time I’d say there’s a surprising lack of personality difference or actual memorable variety. It’s like a horde of zombies that do the same general thing over and over again.

It honestly makes me wonder, only because Rockstar has so many other mechanics in the game that favor stalling progress or time wasting over enjoyment, could they have been the ones who actually put the griefers here in mass?

I disagree. The main problem with GTA Online is also its appeal, namely that it promises you to be a virtual gangster.

That attracts a lot of adolescents and adolescents are generally known for their lack of personality and cliquish behavior. A lot of the worst griefers are probably male teens undergoing puberty. Then add to that the number of adults with legit behavioral problems who hang out on the internet and are attracted by that same promise.

What looks menacing: Black and red

What makes people angry: baby talk and losing money

What makes money: losing money

A dev can stop griefing, they can also push it. It's obvious what they wanted the game to be, and it's obvious how they'll run future games.

I can't read that. Can't really say anyone created griefing, but they make it very easy and child-friendly with certain vehicles I won't name.

We all know the vehicle you mean. F-ing Pantos.

An army of bots doing griefing? That's some speculation.

In fact, as Happy Hunter stated, Rockstar makes the griefing attractive by offering griefing tools. You spend money on griefing tools and lose money from griefing. This is a win/win situation for war mongers and someone who sells fishcards.

But you're not that close from the truth. NPCs do a lot of subtle griefing, too. The traffic during selling missions becomes more agressive and will try so often to appear in your way. This has been proven, that vehicles sometimes just spawn in your path and will adjust their speed on crossings to get in your way - you always need to steer erraticaly to counter it.

Please just use normal font size and color in the future thanks.

I doubt they have griefer bots haha, but i like your thinking. If anything they'd have some cheap labor for this lol.

Honestly though, no, its just 95% teens struggling with their hormones/sexuality/whatever and 5% adults never having gotten over that struggle, they all have similar names because people are unoriginal af (and these kids that get banned for griefing then want to use the same nickname on a new account, so they add underscores or x's or whatever around their previous nickname)

I had a nightmare that RS would counter my NAT test solo lobby glitch with NPC’s on Oppressor MKII’s haha.

maybe you’re onto something here.  Either that or you’re on something 😂

How many have actually been banned for griefing, thinking on how much they promote griefing with adding a more op weaponized vehicle after another and on top of that "invites" people to blow up other people's cargo.. 🤔

Honestly i assume quite a lot, as selling copies of games also makes R* money, and its not hard to imagine there just being a cap, if you get reported for griefing x times in y time-period, you get banned.

If you're implying that griefers are some sort of hivemind created by R*, well, you aren't that far off from the truth.

I mean, they dress the same, talk the same, play the same, even have the same kind of usernames, it might as well be a freaking cult at this point.

Now talking seriously, while R* obviously didn't created griefers per se, they did empowered them and promoted their ingame behaviour for their own benefit, it's so painfully obvious, it's not even funny anymore.

What is still funny is how there's still people in goddamnit 2019 that argue that their toxic actions in the game like destroying cargo or spawnkilling other players is somehow not griefing, it's part of the game, it's GTA, it's PvP, it's a crime simulator, yadda yadda. The same old trite, boring and disproved excuses they like to throw back in order to divert responsability from their own actions. Like, get new jokes guys.

That's going to continue to happen for as long as there are, in 2019, still people aghast that this goes on and thus complain indignantly about it.

I have several people on my friend list that often ask if I can commend them because their status is dodgy from "griefing" people, none of them them have been banned :)

To many, when going to the convoy to collect some Gunrunning supplies it certainly feels like it, lol.

But no, it's just R* stupidly f*cking with NPC's accuracy along with encouraging and making it all so easy to disrupt players and try to reduce success at any chance.

Can't even say this company doesn't know how to offer a better freemode and play off of that ignorance. Not after RDRO shows it was quite easy to reduce significantly with a little thought.

I'll leave the RDRO bashing out, lol. Cheap bastards!

Actually in all pvp games, there will always be cheaters and kids that love pissing off someone else by any means. In order to slow cheating, you have to create player vs npc only sessions, and allow crew members only sessions that also allow missions to be completed for any job.

Griefers are actually NPCs programmed by Rockstar to prevent you from making money?

wow what a conspiracy theory, might be even better than flat earth theory!

I can stop crying this thread made my day. I'm totally imagining an army of thousands super-soldiers like in X-files playing all the day long on XBOX or PS just to grief peoples and switching to low level accounts to join random heists and failing on purpose.

"They look like us, talk like us, but they're not us. They were created in the sole purpose to search and destroy your precious crates and to keep dying during Pacific Standard escape."

There's no need to develop a super AI specifically designed to make a game's experiencie miserable when you can get lowlifes to do it for free.

inb4 "they're just playing the game they bought their own way, let them be or stop playing!!!1"

Nah, f*ck that noise and f*ck you for trying to defend those idiots.

Not aimed at you but that's sh*t and slippery slope logic. Any dickish behaviour can be explained away if that's true. Someone being racist is " only living their life, who are you judge?" etc.

It's 2019, being a racist cannot be explained away. That's the lowest form of hatred. And while being an asshole isn't as terrible as being a racist, it still comes down to 1 person justifying their needs, no, their wants over mine. Me me me me me. I wanna have fun and you can'tt. Mememememememe, if you don't like it, stop playing, this game was designed for me and not you, i matter, and only me.

Oh but these people will tell me "well it's selfish to always want to win" and it is. But guess what?

1. Me not getting bothered in anyway does not affect anyone.

2. The games economy is so f*cked, that's all we can hope for in order to buy things we want. I gotta shlub myself accross the map 35 goddamn times to buy a car that doesn't have a roof, and now I gotta deal with some jerkwad that gets his kicks by firing a rocket at everything that moves.

Please don't think I am endorsing racism. It's a disgusting and vile practice.

No-one is saying you can't have fun but when your fun comes at the expense of someone else's fun then you (not you specifically) are an asshole. Blowing up someone's Cargo for example may seem like fun to you and "iS JuSt pArT Of tHe gAmE" but someone spent hours sourcing and storing that Cargo and all that time has now been wasted and for what? So someone can get a warm fuzzy feeling from five seconds of dopamine?

The game has PvP modes if you want to kill other players. The person destroying Cargo and griefing consciously chooses to be a dick and that makes them an actual dick.

Unsurprisingly, racists use this line of reasoning to get their opinions heard.

Still, I wouldn't compare griefing in a video game to racism in the real world. The problem with GTA Online is really the power imbalance. How is it fun to hop on an Oppressor Mk II and blow up noobs who are just trying to deliver special cargo in a van? On the other hand, trying to deliver vehicle cargo while another player chases you on a motorcycle with an uzi could actually be fun. But how likely is that in GTAO compared to getting attacked by a jet?

I know it might be a little extreme but it gets the point across. There is a good reason why "tHe gAmE ToLd mE To dO It" is openly mocked and ridiculed among the GTAO community, its a cop out. The old "I was only following orders" excuse.
