When will the “Tank Build” get nerfed?

Recommended Posts

djb204

I’m sure we’ve all seen the “Tank Build” by now. There are multiple videos online showing how to stack your ability cards to become next to invincible. It’s ridiculous how much damage one can take when using it.

When should we expect Rockstar to address this? Days? Weeks? Months?

How much money would you have to spend to run the tank build in a single showdown, or anywhere that it matters?

Months, most likely, though I’m sure they’ll barely dent the potency of tank builds and just nerf PiB into the ground some more.

I normally enjoy PvP games, as well as PvP segments in games that possess both PvE and PvP, but this game’s player combat system is a f*cking joke, thanks to all the tank meme card decks and tonic chugging. On-top of that, instead of making input more responsive by just removing the input lag, Rockstar sped up the animations while cutting out some, as well as increasing player speed, and these didn’t need to happen at all.

Whatever Rockstar thinks of implementing next, they’ll either roll it back, or conjure up a messier “solution” to a problem they keep piling up themselves. I’m sure it’ll be the latter.

I don’t know how much money one would have to spend, but regardless of the cost, it’s still an OP build that requires attention by Rockstar. Some players have more money then others obviously, and the Tank Build makes RDO Pay To Win.

Your reply brings up some interesting questions....

(1) What if Rockstar new about this build’s capabilities and it’s cost right from the beginning?

(2) What if Rockstar intentionally snuck this into the game knowing very well that players would be required to pay more in order to keep up with the Tank Build’s requirements?

I guess we will come to our own conclusions as to whether or not this was intentional on Rockstar’s part based on how fast they address it. If they address it sooner rather then later, it was probably unintentional. If this OP Build remains in the game, then Rockstar might be turning a blind eye to something that is bringing in more money. (The Tank Build’s upkeep requirements)

Hope it never does. Rockstar really sucks at designing PVP and it clearly shows with the latest update.

The previous update was imperfect. It could've used a few of the changes but not the atrocious movements. I really hope a new developer steps forward and shows these assholes how to make a Freeroam Multiplayer work.

The PVP was what lured me to this game. Now it's trash.

I'm guessing this build is ss fool me once iron lung and something else . I guess it could be countered with focus fire peak condition winning streak and another offense card like gunslingers choice

The only time where PvP was any good was in the first day of RDO because no one had ability cards.

Can you even buy tonics with gold?

If not, then it isn’t pay to win, since you have to play the game to either find the tonics, craft them or earn the ingame currency to buy them.

This tank build seems like a non issue.  It only works while the player can consume tonics.  To keep it up and running for more than a few minutes would be prohibitively expensive.  I can’t see it being used to dominate showdowns or any PvP that matters.

Tonics are probably not considered too expensive to those that banked big doing those old cougar glitches.
Otherwise it is a level playing field as all can equip the same damage reduction cards by playing and getting the needed xp.
Money glitchers need xp too, but do have lots of cash making paying for card upgrades a non issue.
Then there is what R* may nerf in the future. When and where will their Nerf Squad strike again?

Naw but they had trash Aim Assist regardless. I know it's the traditional setting but this is where cards could've made the mixed lobby work. Instead rather than add balance they simply made it so you literally have to use Aim Assist against other players.

Free Aim preference goes completely disregarded with this update. Also, the so called "Free Aim" showdowns are a bad joke. It's just a bunch of Free Aim wannabes using Aim Assist and Paint It Trash.

When will Rockstar realize there's a whole community that doesn't want Aim Assist at all and no broken abilities like Paint It Black?

All I saw were a couple clickbait videos showing someone tank shots with Fool me Once already ramped up.

They just need to put a cap on Fool me Once. I'm sure they'll get around to it eventually. Not a big deal though, builds don't really matter when you have magic potions.

THIS. I think the best way to fix PVP would be to remove ability cards & special ammo. Everyone pretty much on the same playing field. Would it be "Perfectly Balanced, as all things should be"? No, but it would be a huge step in the right direction.

I just use dynamite, or dynamite arrows. Maybe an explosive round if I'm low on them. As far as I know the tank build relies on special health tonics - or at least it did in the video I saw? I don't see many people choosing to waste their tonics if explosives keep forcing them to use the tonic again and again.

Maybe there's something I missed? Only PIB nerf I heard of was a completely pointless one that just makes it use slightly more deadeye.

Slippery Bastard on the other hand had its entire purpose removed. Slow and Steady got made unsteady and weak. I always thought of PIB as one that gets away a lot.

Soon...

...possibly. ;)

But only to be replaced by the next best solution, especially when R* add more. 🤣

Not yet. First let everyone and his momma know about this build and buy&upgrade the cards. Then will be the moment for them to bring another build that outdates the current. Rinse&repeat.

This. So. F*cking. Much.

I'm no fan of PvP in general, but I do still have sympathy for the PvP favouring players who have been served up a steaming pile by R*.

I'm taking as little further interest as possible in Ability Cards. I have a build (QAI 3, PC 3, IL 3, TUE 3) centered around PvE, it works for me and I'm sticking with it until such a time that one or more of those cards get nerfed into uselessness.

The so called tank build probably won't be touched until the next update, when, instead of how the cards stack being changed, one will get nerfed into oblivion, along side new OP and untested cards being added into the game.

The build itself ain't overpowered, it's the f*cking tonic chugging that makes it a sh*t to deal with. A good fix for this would be to simply turn off dead eye automatically if the player tries to drink a tonic while in dead eye.

I'm having more issues with f*cking PIB in free aim PVP now that sh*t Is annoying specially last week when f*ckers would use it with the rolling block rifle.

You can‘t mark crosses with PIb through scopes.

edit: most players who use the rolling-block know HOW to use it... ;)

When people stop buying the set up.

R* can track everything you do down to the smallest purchase. They know what card setup you have. They know exactly how many people are using it and how many people are spending thousands on card upgrades to do it.

They need to take the "Toxicity" idea from W3. If you drink more than one tonic in two minutes you lose your ability to auto-aim, another one and your screen goes wobbly, another one and your sick and a final one and you die of poisoning.

It's a bit rich that we can't eat three raspberries without our bodies becoming too acclimated to benefit but we can gulp down moonshine and witch's brew by the gallon through a mouthful of chewing tobacco with no ill effects.

I bought the basic PiB card recently for hunting. I refused to use it out of principle before that, lets make an incredibly easy game with Auto-Aim even easier.

Downing booze will make you drunk eventually which disables auto aim. But Snake Oil which is proven in real life and in game to be dangerous is fine.

The last person I'd be worried about is some doofus shuffling around chugging tonics. If they're spending all their time trying to be invincible, then they damn sure ain't got no time to pull out a weapon to be any kind of threat.

The only way to dominate and win is to be offensive. The only mode I can see them winning is the last one standing (whatever it's called). Other than the "hey check this out" videos, is there even one that shows someone winning any PvP mode?

The tank build, just like any other would require downing tonics constantly. Without Slow and Steady constantly active, the damage resistance is minimal. That in combination with health tonics which of course give you temporary invincibility for every one you drink. The higher the tier the more damage you can take before it expires. I think the real problem is when health tonics are introduced into the equation.

I personally like running the tank build for PvE conrtent, particularly the level five legendary bounties. The tank build in combination with cold blooded makes for a powerful PvE build as well and sure can help during level five legendary bounties. Great damage reduction and a steady source of healing so long as you kill enemies quickly and consistently.

The real problem I see here is tonics for both health and dead eye. These are often what makes not just the tank build, but any build super powerful. Restricting usage I find to be the best strategy here. Take away for people to be almost constantly under the effects of them will make all these different ability card builds not quite so powerful anymore. There is a reason why most games with items such as potions and other such items have cooldowns and can't be spammed.

This. But you know people. They were bitching about slow and steady being way too op in the early days, then slippery bastard was the unfair master perk. After that PIB got bullsh*tted by everybody. Now it‘s the tank build.

in a few weeks people will have learned how to counter it and nobody is going to care anymore.

btw, I still haven‘t seen anybody using it except on some videos on reddit.

There’s a couple of ways to fix it.

1: Nerf the consumption of tonics. It’s the main reason why these tank builds are powerful atm. Make it where consuming a few too many will slowly loose the effect or be immune to it. And as a bonus drink too many, you puke it up or loose health.

2: Have a health, damage and defense slots, just like deadeye has its own slot. The only reason why these tanks builds are slowly becoming rampant is because of stacking. By having a slot for each ability card none of them can’t be stacked.

Even nerfing these defense cards, a new meta will just emerge. If anything a nerf in the tonics would be better. Cause I’m running into too many high level tryhards chugging these in showdowns.
