just like the one in gta san andreas section, what do you think this game does better than others?

i’m starting with

-missions and storyline are combined in an amazing way and probably one of the reasons i don’t get bored of this game

The gunplay and melee are done best in this game

Gunplay/Shooting with regards to how intense the gunshots sound and how enemies react to being shot

Melee with regards to how you can disarm opponents and the various counters you can do as well.

In general both feel most satisfying in this game (the overall physics system in this game is the best in GTA).

I also think the characters are done best in this game, to the point where even the random characters make a lasting impact .

-Protagonist. Niko Bellic is the only HD era protagonist to carry a whole game on his own.

-The city. Liberty City still feels like the most alive city to date.
-Driving physics. Controversial topic but I prefer driving in IV to any other GTA.

-Euphoria physics. Makes messing with NPCs so much fun.

-Throwing random items at people.

-Parkour. The most advanced in the series.

-Interiors. Allows entertaining hospital shootouts.

-Friend activities. Largest amount to choose from: drinking, bowling, pool, darts, comedy clubs, boating & helicopter tours.

-Friends' services. It is especially fun take Dwayne's goons with you in missions.

-Vigilante missions. The police computer makes them really awesome.
-Story DLC: TLAD and TBOGT. I really miss it when Rockstar cared about singleplayer fans.
-Swingset glitch. The most awesome glitch in the series, deserves a special mention.

It feels more intimate in a special way. I feel really immersed when I’m walking around Star Junction for example on a rainy gloomy day with horns of bustling city goers in vehicles honking. I take the atmosphere in and especially being in Algonquin I’m in a concrete jungle of sorts.  Dark alleyways lurking on nearly every street and more. It’s not just on the streets that the immersion hits me either. It’s also underground in the subways. I could literally go on and on about this game...

Also, I’ve always loved this screenshot...

Seems I can't edit my previous post to quote this but I just wanted to add to this, what makes the storyline of IV especially unique to me is the presence of sub-plots like the diamonds and the heroin. The way these plotlines flow in between the main story of IV(and EFLC ) enhances it's story and makes it unique. I don't think other GTA's have sub plots like this so that's another thing IV did better

That it feels like the GTA concept finally matured.

I still applaud R*s ballsy move by abandoning the San Andreas model of how to approach GTA games and instead they opted for something much more refined and focused. It's one of the reasons I still play it after all this time. A few words can't describe how much I love Niko as a character, the story, physics, shooting etc. It's the best in the 21 years or so I've been a GTA fan for.

Its missteps here and there I feel are the minority of the experience. As much as I love Vice City and GTA III not even those game captivated me as much as GTA IV does. :inlove:

I think Rockstar wanted to make the GTA name to stand for something a bit more meaningful than beating cops with purple dildos.

Rockstar clearly had this image that GTA was something more. The name carried far more weight. When a new Saints Row, or True Crime, Mafia, or any one of a dozen other clones got announced, it was like, cool...when a new GTA is revealed the whole world stands to attention. How many other games had an official trailer countdown? And a trailer that didn’t even work when it released due to system overload? I think Rockstar always wanted the series to be more serious in tone, the foundations were there even in the 3D era but they recognised the technology was not where it needed to be, so more liberties were taken with the wackiness.

Indeed.

Every now and then, I forget what I'm doing and why I'm doing that when it comes to some missions of the 3D era titles, whereas the writing and dialogue in GTA IV doesn't allow such things to happen.

True, and I especially like the fact that such sub-plots make me actually feel that Liberty City isn't just all about Niko, but also there're other criminals who have their own adventures which leave a huge impact on the story as well.

Thought of a couple more

-The Grand Theft Auto. As in the side missions where you have to steal vehicles for the mission giver/checklist. GTA IV had two of this and both were great, Exotic Exports had different scenarios for obtaining the vehicle and Stevies Car Thefts feel like a treasure hunt where you have to search for that specific vehicle in a specific location.Other GTA's mostly just had you jack any vehicle of that type which is dull in comparison so this is what GTA IV did better than others( Angus' BIke Thefts are similar to Exotic Exports but IV also has Stevies thefts so it wins)

-The Skyline. This is unfair to others because Liberty CIty is based on New York after all, but still the LC skyline is majestic. I might get hate for saying that I actually...wait for it...prefer Los Santos(mainly cause I like the West Coast vibe) and I hate to rail on it, but it's skyline is embarrassing. LA's skyline is much more impressive than that from what I've seen of it on various media, so that was a fail in V and makes me appreciate IV's skyline more.

Gun fights most definitely.

The gunshot sounds and effects in IV are still the best on all the GTAs to this day. Three Leaf Clover was a clear example of the exhilarating tension and adrenaline rush you get from gunfights in IV.

Physics, from vehicles to peds, and even bullets reaction to surfaces... That something that got me amazed since the beginning.

Antagonist.

Dimitri Rascalov is the antagonist who turns into a "pure/legit" enemy in the most interesting time in the story in my opinion. Not as early as Catalina, yet not too far away as it is with Sonny Forelli and Frank Tenpenny, who either turn on the protagonist by the end or get on his nerves without being able to deal with them until the last few moments, which both got boring very fast. That helped making it more intense to look out for him as well, especially since he doesn't have too much screen time later on, yet still manages to get into the protagonist's head and turn his life into a living hell.

The story. I absolutely love the story of GTA IV. From beginning to end. When I first booted up GTA IV back in 08, I was so in awe when I saw the loading screen and then the first words we ever hear “Daddy’s back you bitches”. As the cutscene ended, I remember thinking “this is gonna be an awesome game”. I like how the game starts off slow with giving you tutorials on driving, saving the game, eating to regain health, etc. After completing “The Cousins Bellic”, I walked out the apartment and just walked to Romans’ Cab Depot. The atmosphere was great. Nothing was in my face with explosions, Annoying over the top humour, or anything like that. It was awesome.

That is what V failed at. When I booted that game up, I was excited. The heist mission was cool but once I started the mission Franklin and Lamar, something about the game didn’t sit well with me. And for the remainder of playing V, that feeling stuck with me. GTA V is ALL about the explosions and over the top action with annoying but few instances of humour. V is a fast paced game whereas IV was like a game that took its time. You didn’t even start a shooting mission until what 6 missions in? That’s if you didn’t go searching for weapons. I could’ve but I chose not to as I wanted the game to give me one. I’m just like that. I hate to be that guy who trashes V but honestly it deserves it.

Whenever I feel like replaying IV, it feels as if I never played it before. And I don’t want to put the controller down. I tried replaying V and I grew bored during the mission “Franklin and Lamar”. It just felt so darn boring. I don’t feel anything playing the story mode like with IV.
