Purposely spoiling the game to PC players will get you banned INSTANTLY.

Don't engage into fanboyism, it looks ridiculous saying "console peasants" and "inferior", and similar, and any platform wars will be penalised accordingly.

Also, RDR2 PC will likely have higher resolution video (pre-rendered chapter transitions, etc), so that will probably make the size grow too. They're already 4K on console, but they will probably have to be 4K60 on PC or it would be jarring if you went into an FMV that is 30 FPS while the game is at 60. I wonder if there will be an Ultra textures "DLC" or something.

That's interesting. I would think they would make them 4k60 on console as well and just run them at 30hz

That would be a waste of space, lol. It's just re-rendering the video (or re-recording whatever scripted thing) in Rockstar's side anyway, no use in having 60 FPS video in 30 FPS consoles.

Not their fault, try to load like a hundred GB of assets efficiently. I've heard it loads faster than GTA V though.

Yer I know it's not their fault but it's still a long wait and an SSD will speed it up.

It does, both SP and Online load faster than GTA V, I feel like it loads as fast as GTA V PC on SSD, even though I use regular HDD on PS4.

Fair enough, I just think it's weird.

You'd be "pleased" to know many AAA games out there run 60 FPS on PC normally and then the pre-rendered cutscenes are still 30 FPS lol. Sorta afraid this is gonna happen with RDR2 but luckily it's just a few chapter transitions and nothing else.

Even devs that care about PC like CDPR had 1080p 30 FPS pre-rendered cutscenes in The Witcher 3, it's still industry standard.

Maybe Rockstar can do better in RDR2 PC ?

Depends if they care enough or aren't worrying about space. :p The thing with RDR2's transitions is that they transition straight into gameplay so it would probably look a bit worse than The Witcher 3's or Watch Dogs 2's. Then again TW3 already has its age too.

I understand why they pre-render cutscenes but I don't understand why they wouldnt just render it at 60hz to start with. It's not like game size is that huge of a concern otherwise there wouldn't be unused assets in the game.

The story behind unused assets is different from the story behind fully planned pre-rendered cutscenes. Not to mention there are noticeable ghosting artifacts if you try to downsample a 60hz stream to a 30hz stream. It's just not worth it, and you want to save as much as possible in game development - CPU time, GPU time, memory, disk storage... (Oh and 4K60 is also MUCH harder to decode so...)

Sure as sh*t hope the Rockstar Launcher supports pre-loads, in any case. Don't feel like downloading 100+ gigs on launch day.

What model rtx do you have. I think it's definitely noticeable but I do have a rtx 2080 Ti in my main rig and a 2060 in my laptop. I might check it out on my laptop to see how it looks on there

I have a 2080 on my laptop.

I must give it a try again, it's been a few weeks since I've played control and to be honest I didnt play that much of it with raytracing off. I'll give it a shot and see how it goes

If the old client did (I think?) I'm pretty sure the Launcher will too!

I found it looked really bland without raytracing

I wonder if modding is going to be a challenge due to the new file structure and encryption

I was thinking getting a 2080 ti, but the insane price makes me doubt.

¿Is realy worth it or a 2080 super is good enough?

by not much i think.

bc the compression they use for the .bik files is incredible.

like the 4k version of the R* logos video when you start the game is only like 11.2 MB.

i have no idea how they manage that...

The RDR2 PC stuff for the Launcher is already on the Rockstar Launcher servers.

I don't think they'll delete it, the pre-orders launch Wednesday, and this is no secret as the Launcher will show this that day, but here's some archive links.

I would only recommend it if your gaming at 4k and you have a CPU that won't bottleneck it. If not 2080 super would be fine. 2060 is even good enough only the laptop I use is the fx 505 which uses a ryzen CPU which bottlenecks it also.

A LOT, Ray Tracing is only for the high end Nvidia cards right now (RTX series), you can run it on older cards but the performance drops into single digits. However it would be nice if the game supported it for those that do have high end and for those who plan to upgrade over the years as things like proper Global Illumination, ray traced reflections/refractions, etc, would really enhance the world and make the game pop even more.

I think to make the game still look impressive even into the next gen so they can lure people into the Online recurrent-spending model, it wouldn’t be hard with their resources to add in things like ray tracing, etc. that even 5 years from now many computers will have a hard time with. That way they can sit back and watch people justify Online and lack of single player support because of super advanced graphics. Hey, Red Dead Redemption 2 is already an amazing game and it would be cool to see it look even better with high-end technology that’s years from being commonplace.

Speaking of 100 gigs, I'm concerned I need to get atleast a 240 GB SSD. My 120 GB SSD won't cut it.
