Purposely spoiling the game to PC players will get you banned INSTANTLY.

Don't engage into fanboyism, it looks ridiculous saying "console peasants" and "inferior", and similar, and any platform wars will be penalised accordingly.

Well basically you download 150gig, then at launch date it will start decrypt the files, so the system will basically steal another 150gig temporarily until it's fully decrypted. So make sure you have atleast 300gb for the decrypt part or you'll be kinda stuck lol

Encryption means that they prevent people from using the files to get out information in the preload state. At release they allow us unpack the encrypted files.

Ah f*ck all I got is 210 GB free. Is that a sure thing? I'll have to skip the preload and just download as soon as it's released.

That's probably a silly question, but once the preload happens, will it be possible to start downloading, turn the computer off and later continue download from the same spot where you left off?

Well, we will know if the files are encrypted once the preload starts, right? I'll hold off from trying to open up space until then

It’s pretty much a given that the files will be encrypted as evident by the code from the RGL update earlier today. Also, the pre-load for GTA V was encrypted.

When I downloaded Max Payne 3, I was able to shutdown my PC and still have the download resume where I left off. I don’t see why the same thing won’t be true for RDR 2.

just to be safe, pause the download before anything else

sudden shutdown can corrupt part of your download

How long the decryption will take for a HDD?

Depends. GTA V took me around an hour. RDR2 is much larger so expect sometime. Also im not sure if unpacking evolved since back then so maybe is faster this time around. We will have to see :)

300 GB of space required along with give or take an hour and a half for decrypting on launch day(if it follows Steam's 'depotcache' encryption method).

Yeah no. I'd rather download the game on release. It should be all good unless the servers sh*t themselves.

Ive got 404gb free on my SSD so im all set. I doubt the game will be 150gb though, my guess is its around 120gb.

For some people who have a good internet speed that might be a viable alternative. I don't have such a luxury with an 8MB/s max speed

Hmm. I've got around 45 MBP/s. I figure it'll be several hours for me.

That would be Mbps. Capital B is byte 😛

Ive got the same speed. As long as the preload period is longer then 12 hours we should be fine.

45MB/s will take roughly an hour.

Are you sure you didn't mean 45Mb/s? That would take about 8 hours.

There is a huge difference between bits and Bytes.

8MB/s aint so bad you're looking about 5 1/2 hours.

I expect preload to be enabled no later than tomorrow. Friday would be pushing it but I'd still have time to download it before launch day. It'll take me around 17 hours nonstop to download it.

Not so bad especially because i don't pay for it but it's still more than the 1.5hrs needed for decrypting.
