Purposely spoiling the game to PC players will get you banned INSTANTLY.

Don't engage into fanboyism, it looks ridiculous saying "console peasants" and "inferior", and similar, and any platform wars will be penalised accordingly.

I have the feeling that someone is misinterpreting this whole decryption thing. But maybe I'm wrong.

No, there are literal mentions to decrypting a game in there, along with a support link if you're having trouble decrypting, and other decryption related strings. Also, have you ever preloaded a game on Steam? Steam does this.

Because usually in the decryption process you need double size. The size of the downloaded files, and then the size for the extracted files.

It's not, you do realize that there are various cryptographic algorithms?

Yes, but you don't normally go and decrypt manually each single file do you?

300 GB would be a bit absurd. Not just the space, but think about the time it would take. I certainly hope they have a better decrypting solution in mind.

No one is going to decrypt files manually. There is always software on top of the crypto algorithm that handles how the decryption takes process. Now obviously there are some standards to each of them but they're pretty trivial in the case of a pre-loaded game.

It's just for prealod, won't be encrypted on release day.

I just want to download and install later these days. Do I need 300gb for decrypt? And it is possible to split this 2 files on 2 disk drive?

You need 300 because decryption is something special that you don't have to do, the game is 150GB, will be 150GB at release, don't need 300GB for normal usage, you need 300GB to decrypt it because 2x 150GB is 300GB.

I'm not talking about you or Spieder-Vice. Some people here migth think that the game will be 300GB.

No, I understood quite well. The game installed will be 150Gb..... but according to a lot of people here you will need 300GB for decrypting. If that is the case than the minimum requirements shouldn't be 150, but 300 GB of free space.....I mean, there is no physical version for this game, and the only way is digital...If you don't have 300GB then you cannot install and play the game at all, right? So how is that not worth of minimal requirement if you can't even install the game without 300GB of free space?

You only need to decrypt it if you pre load it, if you download it after its out you dont need to decrypt

I expect the apes to decrypt and at the same time delete so that the 150gb+- should be enough. 300gb is hard to come by gotta delete lots of po....ähhhh good stuff

In fact, you can, given that you have that 150GB of free space. It's only a matter of removing the encrypted pre-loaded files and re-downloading the game again, this time unencrypted.

That's probably what I'm gonna do, tbh. We'll see.

Oh yes, the apes... Decrypting moankeys oan ma lawn... Oh no!

Yeah, that would be pretty smart in fact. Decrypt 1 file, erase the encrypted copy, and so forth.

When you think about it, when using a slower storage device, considering the speed of the decryption may be REALLY slow depending on their algorithm, it might be faster to download the game after the release if you have a fast connection AND if the Rockstar servers are functioning properly at the time of release, which is a damn risky thing to do LOL.

But why do that though? What is the point, some people would take much more to decrypt than to download the game. Me included. Couldn't they just release exe and other core files after launch so people don't have to keep a gargantuan 300GB files and then decrypt them later?

It just seems weird.

No, because that's only during the preload period ie before the 5th. After the game is out on the 5th anyone who downloads then and after that date for the rest of time won't need to decrypt as the game will be out.

You don't really keep them. You'll preload approximately 150 GB (dunno if the exact size will vary slightly). But during launch, you'll end up with another 150 GB for the duration of the decrypting process. So you won't be lugging around 300 gigs for 4-5 days, if that's any consolation.

Yeah, it seems I confused the two, my bad....Still, seems weird that this is the way we will have to preload.

Yeah, I incorrectly typed it. I wanted to say that people still need to keep those 300 gb free so the game could unpack at launch. It is still a lot.

I guess they could but it seems, that they really, really don't want anyone to mess with files before Tuesday.

It may just be better to download the game on release, honestly. IF their decryption method works this way.

There may be some small chance that the decryption itself merely involves adding the .exe back into the directory once the game has launched? One can hope. Though I suppose that doesn't really qualify as an encryption method...

Even though no .exe = no running the game, it's all up to how Rockstar wants to hide their files from modders, pirates and such.

Uh... the Launcher update that literally just came out and was immediately datamined? The one that literally has the words "Pre-load" in its code?

I mean, I suppose it could mean it's a few days off still but... that'd just be f*cking annoying, honestly.
