Spider-Vice

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Releasing November 5th

Spider-Vice

Purposely spoiling the game to PC players will get you banned INSTANTLY.

Don't engage into fanboyism, it looks ridiculous saying "console peasants" and "inferior", and similar, and any platform wars will be penalised accordingly.

Is there even an excuse to own a sh*tty computer nowadays?

What about those Athlon GEs? I bet they are a good bang for f*ck buck if you can't afford sh*t.

Hell, I'd say that if you have a Ryzen 3 3200G you may be able to play RDR2... Poorly, but playable.

Well, I'd say it certainly depends on where you are living. Sure, here in North America we're pretty set in stone, but from what I hear getting a high end (or even just a decent) PC for gaming in places like Brazil is pretty difficult. Of course, I am mostly speaking out of my ass, so if I'm actually wrong the please forgive me

Though, in terms of well-developed countries (in terms of PC gaming), it could also just simply be because of hand-me downs if you're a bit younger (or just don't have a job or something), or it could also be the result of trying to game on something like a work/school PC, which in terms of gaming probably aren't going to give very favorable performance.

Basically, I can still see there are reasons to own a PC that's pretty bad in terms of gaming though if you were referring to PCs that perform like netbooks from like 10 years ago then I totally agree with you there

We are half way done waiting, since the PC announcement we had 31 days to wait, now it's 15!

But won't they release it by time zone instead of all at once. I know it was released by time zone for console but I don't remember how gta 5 was released.

Yeah, GTA V water was beautiful in X360/PS3 in 2013. The water had refractions, volumetric lights and it did a job 6 years ago. IMO RDR2 water is uglier than in GTA V, because of blurry screen space reflections.

Just remember my and CP words and wait for an article like this or two weeks more. I don't want to share more leaks. I just want to tell you that R* did an excellent job to optimize the game to run it on very different configs.

PS4 files don't have most of the graphics settings which I and CP wrote earlier.

what spec is your pc and how many fps do you get

I hope it releases for everyone at the same time so that we all can ride the hype train for one last time.

Not sure if this has been mentioned a lot, but one thing I like to do to pass the time is to watch movies that have a similar theme to the game i'm looking forward to. In this case, Westerns. I have a nice collection of them on Blu-Ray, so watching one every evening is a nice way to not only enjoy a good film, but gives you a feeling of what you might be doing in the upcoming game. Currently have 22 Westerns on Blu-Ray and I believe there are another few on some streaming services I pay for. So quite a few to get through lol :)

The fact Nvidia just released the trailer on their youtube must mean something for Nvidia users.

They probably partnered with Nvidia for marketing that is all.

AMD uploaded it too, doesn't mean much tbh, and nothing exclusive to AMD or Nvidia was announced by Rockstar.

No ray-tracing, gameworks or physx, nothing and that's good.

Yup. Keep them crap out of the game especially gameworks.

If you haven't yet make sure to watch;

High Plains Drifter

The Proposition

The Assassination of Jessie James by the coward Robert Ford

There will be blood

They are all referenced in rdr2

Is SSSE3 support required, for those two folks with early copies?

Dunno, but it works on i5 2500K and this is a quite old CPU.

I ran the game on multiple configs, don't remember on which config I had how much fps.

Rockstar has implemented its own PCSS which are present on console versions as well.

Watch Dogs 2 also has NVIDIA PCSS and although it looks good, it's very demanding. Developer-specific implementations are always much better. Good to know they did away with manufacturer-specific tech.

PCSS on gta 5 is not good, I mean shadows looks ok but cascading is broken, tons of artifacts

And I'm not talking about that 'shadow box follwing you', thing - that's how cascades work, but even that is broken because you should not see the edge on the filtering box

@robi29 could you describe the image in the Graphics tab?

Nah, there are some filtering issues inside certain places in GTA V. PCSS in general looks ok because they're more accurate contact shadows but it has blemishes like this sometimes in certain interiors.

I didn’t see that option. Maybe they add in the future.

I wrote it earlier, I don’t remember and it looks like I won’t have access to the game again ;_;

Yup, I had Radeon and had this issue, now I have GeForce and have this issue too. AMD CHS doesn’t seem to have a similiar issue, but it doesn’t look as well as PCSS.

robi, what about shadow box? I mean there shouldn't be one but who knows. This thing can be so annoying in GTA V, shadows are just changing into high quality version of them in front of your face...

Cascading I'm assuming is going to be the same as in the console versions. Maybe it has changed though. I think RDR2 has fixed the bad cascading even on console, no?

We should expect driver updates from AMD and NVIDIA soon before the game releases? Maybe we might get a slight glimpse of most of the graphical settings.

I think drivers get released the same day of release, at least Nvidia does that.

Trivia (found out the other day by investigations, I'm no magician and I don't have game code)
Grand Theft Auto V Shadow's Resolution algorithm works like this:

They have a base value of 256.

Depending on your setting, this base value gets bitshifted left according to the setting you have on. (I think it's just compiler optimization to be honest)

0 is disabled. Doesn't count. Shadows are off.

1 = Normal. 256 << 1 = 512. Which means, 512x512 shadow map.

2 = High. 256 << 2 = 1024

3 = Very High. 256 << 3 = 2048

You could also see it as 256 * 2 * x. X being the setting. The instruction is SHL. Basically multiply the value by 2, x times (or register times in ASM).

Now, if you want higher resolution shadows you can enable the Advanced Setting: "High Resolution Shadows"
HOWEVER! This setting only works if you have your shadow setting at 3 (Very High). There is a conditional statement in code that verifies it.

After your Shadow Settings have been verified the game hardcodedly switches the shadow resolution to 4096.
It is pretty weird that the game hardcodes that value and doesn't tell you that High Res Shadows do not work under Very High.

I hope they have fixed this in RDR2. One thing that they could do is change that base value.
OR, have that option blocked unless you have maximum shadow settings.
OR, simply embed that into another shadow setting and call it Ultra. (easiest way, I think?)

Anyway... :) Pretty cool stuff.

Also, Reflection Resolution scales below 720p (iirc), after that it just hits a maximum of 1024 (if I am not mistaken).

Probably on release day or   one day before. The graphics guide might come a couple of days before though. Not sure when GTA V's was released.

Completely wrong.. they get released days before game launch most of the titles

Nvidia is offering CoD MW drivers for optimal performance now even tho game is few days away
