Will We Ever Get A Native American DLC?

I think there will be a survival update or dlc or whatever you want to call it. It would contain these kinds of things you described, war paint and bandanas. Imagine Arnold in Predator and Sly in Rambo.

The reason being it would avoid any controversy.

Yeah, I could see this. If Ryu is right and they'd rather avoid the whole headache I imagine they'll add some similar cosmetics for 'native' stuff under the guise of a separate DLC.

We have a frontiersman outfit, so they may just add a 'wilderness' outfit or a 'nomadic settler' set (no idea what to call it). Maybe even on the next outlaw pass if they continue with that instead of a DLC.

I do hope we get stuff like this.

Might be the only way I get my Bear, Bison or Wolf Hood.

That bison hood was awesome in single player

My first playthrough I wore the Bison Hood and Coat as soon as I could. Everything else on the outfit would be changed but never removed those two if I could help it. Lol.

It fits well with the really long brown coat. Very Assassins Creed'y.

I wish Native American contents start with re-construct Reservation by both good and evil stranger. Good side will be 'Rains fall' to save reservation by peaceful way like delivering supplies or hunt down danger animals around the reservations. Evil side will be Eagle Flies(technically we can't define his work evil but...the Red Dead System about morality is about good and evil so...)by terrorize the white men community or kill and assassinate of US army or Cornwell's officer etc. By starting this story, they could add some Native American DLC.

I know it is controversy about era matters but what the hell, It's only a game, there might be some more leftover raiders who restore American lands.

Thank you!

Controversy! That's the word I was looking for.

Apparently you don't have to earn the right to bear beard.

You do in some places. There's a group near where I live that won't let a man grow a beard until he's married. No wife means you need a clean shave.

Course, they also make everyone wear clothing that is straight out of the 18th century too.

So you live in Pennsylvania?

I'm Dutch, so if we stick together we'd fit right in.

Washington actually. The eastern half of the state is extremely rural.

My geography is crap, but I wasn't even close, right?

Without an atlas handy, to me America is New York, Washington on top of it, big part in the middle and LA on the other end.

In my defense, Pennsylvania Dutch is originally Pensylvania Deutsch, if I'm not mistaken so, Germany. I'm a little west of everything.

Lol. Washington is at the northwest corner. Pennsylvania is just south of New York, on the East coast.

I feel as if they could do some sort of Native American DLC. Yes, as some of you have stated, most Native American tribes and nations were relocated onto reservations by the time the game is set it, but there were still bands of Native Americans that were keeping up the fight. The American Indian Wars didnt officially end until the 1920s when remaining bands of Apache warriors finally surrendered. Tipis as a tent could work because many fur traders and trappers were taught by Native American tribes how to construct and live in tipis out in the wilderness. Many people that leave their old lives behind and go out and live in the wilderness still live in them. I could definitely see them adding Native American clothing and weapons because of concept art that Rockstar teased before the game was released.

We're apparently getting a 'naturalist' role, nothing would fit better than dramatically expanding/augmenting native clothing, saddles, weapons, customization, etc.

This game has soooo much potential for a broad, varied experience.

You will never see a native American theme expansion, for the same reason you would not see a "what life was really like for African American NPCS and characters" expansion.

My guess is they tread Very carefully, with this stuff.

Rockstar hasn’t been following an authenticity guide line when it comes to the content we see. Explosive rounds and incendiary rounds in the old west is proof of that.

IMO, R* are too fearful of fallout... for the same reasons that you don't see kids in GTA Online, even though there are playgrounds clearly for kids only:

I think the reason we dont have one is, as you all mentioned, controversy from people with misplaced sensitivity.

Yes, there is a dark history of violent oppression against the Native Americans that is uncomfortable to face. There is also a legacy of violence against the European settlers. Massacres, enslavement, scalping, not every tribe were peaceful, and many were violently anti-immigrant.

I only bring it up to point out that history is far more complicated than "European settlers decimated the natives". There are hundreds of tribes with different value systems. Their long and varied history doesn't get discussed enough, which is why people think "native Americans" are some large, uniform, homogeneous culture that had never seen violence until white folk landed.

On top of that, natives didnt just cease to exist once reservations came about.

Someone mentioned the year online takes place a reason native DLC wouldnt make sense, its the same year Teddy Roosevelt founded the Rough Riders, a mixed battalion with alot of Native AMERICANS. They were recruited, not forced. Half of our current US military weaponry is named after Native war concepts (Tomahawk missiles, Apache Helicopters, ect) and most of the nation is named in honor of the respective native tribes, tribal leaders, their names for the land. They only way its erasure is if we stop honoring their greatness, stop discussing their plights, and generally act like they never existed.

So R* should release a DLC that includes a heavy dose of native American aspects, in honor of natives, and people shouldnt be so dismissive of the idea, imo. I get the Wapiti tribe wasnt real, but they were still used to tell a true story, if you get me.

Sorry about the rant, its frustrating that people see the idea as anything short of positive.

There is never going to be native dlc with bonnets and such,,, for obvious reasons such as non native characters randomly dressing on them as a mockery,,,,

but some native themed more neutral random clothing items will definately be added here and there randomly as they have allready done with moccasins and some other stuff. ..Someone here said that all natives were in reservation and not freely moving in the land at all,,, well thats not exactly how it works. Yes, there was not so much of natives living outside of reservations back then, but that does not mean all natives were completely locked to the reservations not being able to hunt etc and had no traditional clothing at all etc. Also its not how it works in rdr world either as there was natives moving around in both rdr and rdr2 stories (remember native members of Dutch new gang in first rdr and there was also Nastas and some random native characters in the world. And wapiti were seen out of res lots of the time too in rdr2 story missions). Reservations were not total prison camps most of the times (well sometimes ofcourse,) so obviously some natives were out of the res too. Saying that all natives were completely locked 24/7 to reservation is little bit exaggerating.. part true but also not really.

I really dont see why would they not add tipis though. I think trappers/mountain men etc had them sometimes after learning from natives so it would not be completely immersion breaking if someone non native had it. I wish there was option to just have tent camp without mr Cripps and all that crap,, so basicly just tent (tipi if you want) and camp fire etc. I really dislike that they force this rdo story to all of us with the brison break and cripps and all that bs.. Im pretty sure most want freedom of having their own story rather. I would like to just have my little tipi and fire and move around with it with the story that i make in my own head, nothing else,,,

kkyuanx.jpg7SmyMor.jpg

but no,, because rockstar thinks we all want to have pvp and forced story in online mode. It should be more free choose to be what ever you want type of wild west RP than this "we give you story and this is how it goes" crap. Well anyway thats out of topic now lol...

Irony is that there would be lots of native style clothing added if they did trapper/mountain men themed dlc though,, because lots of them were wearing clothing from natives and clothing inspired from native clothing,,,

so although im not playing as mountain men im kind of waiting for dlc themed like that because i know there would be lots of native clothing for my native character added.

There are quite few Clothing pieces you can combine for Native American Char ( as seen on yours and few others ), latest Update brought in few more pieces and the only usefull thing from my point of view that is helping MMO immersion, the "portable" Camp Fire. So pack it, invite your few friends being Native Americans also and set it in Wapiti ( or Wickiup if not so many ).

Voila, the Roleplaying can begin. ( sry for me not joining you but my char's background is making him already asimilated and lives in "town" pitched by Cripps )

But then the question remains....whats the EndGame for you and your Team and how long will you hold and repeat the daily routines....

Cosmetics ? I think you can forget about those....

You don't need the portable campfire to settle into Wapiti. One of the main camp locations in the Grizzlies will park Cripps and company near the hitching posts of the reservation.

I dont think group of brave Warriors would like to listen Cripps and his story about being acrobat in Portugal Circus as part of their Roleplaying lives.....

At the very least they could add cosmetic items that fit the theme. Thugs like Hairstyles, Horses, Tents like teepees & wigwams, Warpaint, etc. Adding things like this to RDO wouldn’t be treading any unfamiliar ground. All those things are in single player already.
